Today we have Benson's wristwatch on the bench, a fabulous and very colorful Wakmann Regatta from the early 1970s with the very complicated Lemania 1341 movement inside it. This spectacular wristwatch doesn't run too well and the chronograph does not reset properly, is it just a lack of servicing or bigger issues? Is a restoration needed?
Join Stian for a full service of this very cool watch as we go on a few tangents as always!

One of the most colourful watch dials ever! I have two of these, one in the chrome plated case (white metal) and one in the gold plate as yours. Finding the crystals is the hard part as many of these are crazed and cracked. Fortunately I found two NOS . Also replated the white steel case but the gold plated case was almost NOS. Love these watches and actually wearing the white metal one now, and of course your videos. Funny, mine changed dates at 12 noon also. Maybe an intentional fault by Lemania?………………………. ;-) Excellent history on Wakmann. While flying the 737-200 in the 90’s I noticed the dashboard clocks were marked Breitling Wakmann. The 737 was built in the late 70’s so the relationship was still there. That got me onto Wakmann collecting and I have 2 valjoux 72C Wakmann with the WOG stamp on the balance staff indicating the relationship between the two houses. Cheers, Geoff

Thank you for another excellent video of yours, Stian: I enjoyed watching and listening to you every second. While I doubt that Bond would ever have worn nor ever wear a Wakmann watch, the dial is a colorful reminder of the 70s. My guess is that Breitling hired the designer when Benson folded and have used his/her creations ever since ...

That's a very cool watch indeed. 🙂Fantastic result on the timegrapher! The US tariffs and moves to avoid them led to all sorts of interesting solutions by the Swiss brands. Longines buying into the US Wittnauer brand was another earlier one. Longines imported movements and dials, cased them up locally in their Longines Wittnauer factories making them more "American Made" to avoid taxes(mostly in 14K gold for their precious metal models to avoid more taxes). Longines who had already been one of the more popular Swiss brands in the US(and the Americas in general) got even more traction and were shipping nearly 200,000 movements per year into the US after 1945. Jaeger LeCoultre and Vacheron Constantin saw this was clearly a Good Plan(c) and approached Longines to get in on the gig and VC and JLC movements went through the same process at the same Longines Wittnauer factory. This also led to things like the US only LeCoultre brand.

Great video Stian, thanks for the re run on the pusher…... helped me restore a badly corroded Lemania 1341 … minute hand is slipping and the minute counter is not moving nor the hour counter so will have to go back in and check everything …. Found it very tricky to put the hands back on without one interfering with another… once this is done I have a chrono with arguably the strangest brand name of all time…Dogma… with a Lemania ‘three button ‘ movement… happy to send it to you… !

The movement looks remarkably unscarred. For such a complicated movement with so many springs and screws, I would have expected some marks from prior servicings. It also is weird that for a watch that supposedly was intended to be used on a boat in the water, there wasn't much effort made to make it water resistant. Btw, it looks like you're going to cross the 100k subscriber line before the end of the year. It will be a well-deserved achievement. Your videos are superb. You and the family be safe.

Our watch tariffs here in the US are definitely weird. I have a Charles Nicolet chronograph from the 1940s, but the movement labels are hand-engraved. My watchmaker said the same thing as you said: some importers would ship in parts then assemble later, but further still, some would go so far as importing blank movements (Venus or Landeron) and engraving the movement to define manufacturers after.

Stian, it is a beautiful watch and the dial and hands really set this watch apart from other similar watches. I also like the color of the wrist band. However, there are far too many functions on this watch for an old man like me. Question: I noticed that when you replace the main spring, you did not lubricate it. Was that done off camera or are new main springs already lubricated? Also, what is the price of this Wakmann Regatta? I hope you and yours are healthy and in good spirits and cheers from this old retired coot living the dream in Tennessee.

Thanks for watching! it's important to be aware that polishing a watch case means removing material. Polishing vintage watches which have unpolished cases in good condition is generally a big no-no. In particular for gold plated cases, as the gold plating can be quite easily worn through by polishing. And this watch is in very fine condition, so I would never consider polishing it 😉
