I work IT help desk. My boss is currently having me get A+ because I was hired on with only internship experience but they saw my work ethic and hunger for knowledge, so they hired me on full time. I recently finished my associate’s degree on now they are having me get A+, but I think the plan is to have me go for Net+ after that. Within the next couple weeks I’m going to be ditching my ISP’s provided SOHO multifunctional device and replace it with a beefy Ubiquiti setup to improve my home network but mainly to use as a home lab. Excited to get into Net+ after I finish my A+!

I liked the Network + certification a lot and it definitely an underrated cert unfortunately it is eclipsed by the CCNA from a resume standpoint. However I still recommend going through the Network + learning process at least once for newer people before trying to obtain CCNA.

The Network+ is a great cert to study for and the CCNA is a great cert to Get. Network+ has its place and defiantly is an entry level cert.

Awesome, the best quick info. I took the A+ test years ago (2002) missed it twice by 30, but at the time I was studying more advanced computer equipment and knew more than the college professor teaching my A+ class. I’ve been studying and keeping up with A+ knowledge, and now I’m building a home lab with Ubiquiti equipment and more equipment. Not only that, but I was talking to IT guys at my work trying to get out of factory work and into IT or installing fiber for a local internet company and learning. I am uncertain If I should invest in some other equipment for my home lab besides Ubiquiti? Any recommendations are helpful. I’m also teaching my two kids this while they’re in high school.

look into Professor Messer here on youtube.. he has free A+ classes and monthly live study groups... also make your self a good set of flashcards, they help alot!
@rmo98088 ай бұрын
Your public library might allow access to Udemy courses. Jason Dion is on there and helped a lot and there's 6 practice tests. The only thing missing are the lab portion of the exams. You can also get a discount on the various tests by being in school(free to sign up for community college in most areas without taking classes).

I have my Net+ and I'm not looking at going higher right now since I'm just looking for something entry level, most jobs don't require this, although one job at the local hospital uptown did require it, so it's nice to have, especially the fact that it was proctored, but I think I'll be needing some labs under my belt to be able to really get going, a home lab at this time might be too costly, so I would want to go more so virtual.

Use cisco packet tracer or gns3. They are both free and great for practicing. Cisco packet tracer is more user friendly and GNS3 forces you to use the command line to configure network devices.
