Thank goodness a brilliant person recorded all these episodes so we could enjoy them 40 years later :)

Don't forget that most of the "knowledge" to answer your queries first had to be put in by the programmers one way or another. Machine learning happens through pre-defined algorithms.

This is how fast Chris Serle is at thinking on his feet. He misreads the extract on George's lunch (if you pause during the next segment you can read more of the text from which that excerpt is taken- I recommend you do, it's quite amusing... There you'll see that George was 'grading HOMEwork...assignments' NOT "Grading HER work [realises mistake] or correcting her work (because, let's face it, why would a teacher be grading another teachers work?)"... and all without missing a beat.

He said homework both times. The reason he said it twice, and the reason he changed "grading" to "correcting" is because British English doesn't call it "grading". Typically they will use "marking". He said, "George was having lunch with another teacher and grading homework (or correcting homework) when the waitress--" etc.

We don't have 'English' cars - only British. Asymmetric national devolution. Do get with it.

Omg bbc programmes were so DULL!

Dull, but educational. I like this more than present ones.

I find it riveting. It's a fascinating look at the state of both the technology of the time, and also a glimpse into society back then. Can't say I find anything about it dull. Except maybe that K9 skit.
