the encounter with Al Capone, is where he managed to con Al Capone, with Capone being none the wiser, and thinking Lustig was an honest egg, now that takes some Almonds.

@@Tom19142 No, but I prefer to keep the Eiffel Tower Up. And I hope they do something crazy with the Notre Dame. People need to take risks sometimes and we should really allow a bit more chaos into our lives. The original Notre Dame Spire was an add on in itself in the first place. And reconstructing it as it were would just be boring. Or reconstructing with conservative designs. A modern touch is what I would love to see on the Notre Dame. It's time to take a risk and I'm looking forward to what they're gonna build on it

It depends 😁 some security measures (white stamps, seals) would have been harder to imitate, especially if the person on the receiving end knew what they looked like.

Unless you owned pamphlet/newspaper printers or had network connections with those that worked in the printing industry back then, the process to counterfeiting was more laborious even if producing the counterfeit product itself was "easier". Printers (as in public print shops like Xerox) were still pretty private and rare in those days.

미셜비 I would imagine procuring* hardware or getting a job in a copy shop would be exponentially easier than learning what today amounts to (first and foremost) hacking so that the credentials self-verify. But I see your line of thinking, it could depend largely on the country of origin.

According to Frank Abagnale, it's far easier now than ever before. He's the guy Catch me if you can was based on (read his book, it's 10 times better than the movie) who works for FBI (and have been for couple decades now) There is a recording of his lecture at some uni or whatever where he talks about his life and it's definitely worth seeing, it is up on youtube somewhere

3:26 The Rumanian Box illustrates the underlying fallacy of most scams: If you have a Rumanian Box, then you do not need to sell Rumanian Boxes. "Oh, so you're printing money? Well, good luck with that!"
@attilak9373
@attilak9373 5 жыл бұрын
:) Agree. On the other hand, someone who is fixated to the opportunity of getting lots of money the easy way, he/she will make poor decisions. ... and that fallacy used to be an important part of the story. The con man shows up like someone who doesn't really need money - which is always convincing, plus it's a good starting position in the process of bargaining... (seemingly, he doesn't even want to sell the box).

Actually nope, poisson doesn't mean april fools in french. Although you're pretty close, since poisson = fish and we say : Poisson d'avril (April's fish)

@@cwak8121 Yes, maybe I should have been more clear, not equivalent in literal meaning, but equivalent in the expression that someone has fallen for an April Fool's Day prank. Obviously and probably, it could refer to someone being caught like a fish, but, you have to admit it's quite a coincidence. So, it pique my interest. Is Poisson a common surname in France? Some of my French friends have said that they are not sure how far back this particular expression goes. Certainly, if it predates 1925, then the answer is obvious. Thank you for your response.
