We're excited to share with you our shop, Kurasu Ebisugawa, a place we created in the heart of Kyoto to showcase our passion for coffee education and the finest coffee products.
All of our equipment is designed for home use, not commercial grade. We don't have an espresso machine, and everything we use can be bought in-store, allowing you to replicate and enjoy the same quality coffee at home.

"Kurasu" is derived from the Japanese word that means “to live” or “lifestyle.” What began as an online homeware venture has evolved to become an internationally recognized leader in Japanese coffee brewing equipment. We also offer a subscription service in collaboration with specialty coffee roasters from across Japan.
You can savor our specialty coffee at our locations in Kyoto, Singapore, Bangkok, Jakarta, and HK. In 2021, we relocated our roastery cafe from Fushimi Inari to Nishijin. Currently, we roast using Loring S35 Kestrel.
Our mission is to introduce the world to Japanese coffee culture. This includes showcasing coffee products, partnering with roasters, and sharing our signature roasts. Kurasu is not just a retail store for coffee equipment, but also a cafe, a coffee roaster, and a beacon for specialty coffee culture.

During my next Japan vacation, I am planning on taking a train from Osaka just to visit and head back. Loving the intimate homebrewing concept.

Was so glad that this shop showed up on Google when I wanted some coffee before exploring Kyoto Gyoen. Lovely atmosphere, very comfortable and relaxed. The baristas (who are both in this video!) were happy to make recommendations, and I had an incredible hojicha latte and a lovely pour-over to go. Will absolutely be coming back any time I'm in Kyoto!

The common advice goes against recommending the V60 for beginners. The flow is fast, difficult to control, and highly variable to the quality of grinder you have. Clever Dripper, Aeropress, and Bee House Dripper are all more fool-proof.

True, add pour style and flow rate to get most out of light roast. Frustrating and good heating kettle too. Cant loose temperature with multiple pours😅

My recommendation is to get a Hario Switch and use something like Emi Fukahori's method. Simple, reproduces consistently, and the Switch is super forgiving anyway: perfect for beginners.

We love the V60 for several reasons. It's affordable, paper filters are widely accessible, and most local coffee shops offer V60 recipes tailored to their beans, making it a great starting point for beginners. If budget allows, we recommend the Switch as well. It really depends on what you want and the coffees you want to brew, and that's why we love having all of our different brewers in-store to have a conversation and cater to our customers' preferences.

I think it's a cultural thing. V60s are that much more commonly sold in Japan. The foolproof way to ensure you get easy accessibility is to look at your supermarket and see which filters are more commonly sold. I had the Aeropress as my first brewer just because it was sold by my local roaster and often recommend recipes for their beans. And when i moved into another place and checked their market, Aeropress filters aren't as common, so i moved to a Clever Dripper for a while because Melitta filters and copycats were sold the cheapest.
