I'm surprised the article didn't clarify the kid was five. Seems important to me. To me, it seems outrageous to even expect a kid that age to prepare a meal for themself, let alone tell them they'll go without food for a day if they don't. Maybe I'm just saying that because I know that if that happened to me when I was a little kid, I would have eaten nothing but Pop-Tarts and Goldfish crackers for lunch for the entire school year.

Yeah, and she said that she hoped no one ends up giving her daughter a lunch (or something to that effect) with this tone that seemed to convey that she’d be angry, maybe furious, if a teacher steps forward and buys a lunch for that little girl. Because then she won’t learn her lesson. It’s just so gross. My kid is 14 and takes his lunch to school, but he also always has a little money in his school lunch account (they don’t use cash at his school) just in case. You never know when he might forget his lunch, accidentally drop it, another kid might accidentally spill milk on it (he’s allergic and this has happened before, lol), who knows. I forget to bring my lunch to work sometimes even when it’s prepared and sitting on the counter waiting for me. Shit happens. _That’s_ the lesson she should teach her daughter; shit happens, we make mistakes, but most of the time we can fix them with no harm done. It sounds like this lady expects her children to be perfect little robots.

@@Sssssssslf This exact law is called Coogan's Law in California and is enforced there all the time for child actors. Because of this law, children will be able to sue their parent(s) once they reach 18 years old in Illinois if money isn't put into a dedicated trust account for them. Additionally, if the state of Illinois is made aware of a child influencer not having a dedicated trust account, they will garnish the wages of the influencer parent in order to establish a trust in the child's name. A huge problem is that even when multiple people are speaking up, police & CPS often just refuse to even look into it or do anything. There’s a reason we had to have an Amber Alert as a federal law, & it’s because even when kids were kidnapped by a stranger, cops would often just sit on their asses, do nothing, & tell the parents they’ll turn up, & of course, they waited until the child’s dead body turned up before they got up & tried to do their jobs. There are multiple cases of CPS & police dropping the ball & getting kids killed, homeless teens are often sexually abused by cops, & CPS workers have been caught pimping out children for sex work. Our system is completely broken just ask anyone what was abused as a child or in foster care.

The problem with the Franke’s “parenting style” (I hesitate to call it parenting) isn’t that they give the kids the choice between adjusting their behavior and a punishment; that’s the same sort of decision we adults make when we decide if we’re going to follow the speed limit. The problem is that the punishments are completely disproportionate to the behavior and sometimes going beyond punishment into abuse territory. If you’re taking away basic necessities, you’ve gone too far. If my kids are fighting, I’ll take away whatever they’re fighting over or screen privileges for a few hours, *not their bedrooms*. I feel so sorry for the children, people knew about all this but let it slide for so long. The kids saved themselves from this horrible situation by climbing out the window. How long would it have gone on if they didn’t? If you see something, say something. ❤

People need to understand withholding food is so freaking dangerous. When someone says discipline with food it should only be sweets and treats which means you substitute something like ice cream with fruit. Not completely taking a meal or snack away

What if it's a picky kid who won't eat his dinner? It was never done but my parents suggested that going without dinner for a little while would make us more appreciative.
@Duskyofdaze Жыл бұрын
@@Em_Elizabeth If your kid is a picky eater you try and find a food they like and encourage them to eat it, not deprive them of food till they're forced to eat something they don't enjoy. Forcing children to starve in order to get them to eat establishes harmful attitudes around eating, and can also make a child unwell (children might retch/gag towards some foods and persistent gagging damages the blood vessels in the eyes and hurts the stomach). Your parents suggesting that is an okay method, or that it establishes 'appreciation' is really messed up and they are part-taking in or are encouraging child abuse. Basically any withdrawal of necessities is abuse. You find alternatives, and you work hard to figure out what your child likes/can cope with.

@@Em_ElizabethMy kid was a "picky" eater and I got that same advice. My parents told me to ignore it, I ignored it, and I'm glad I did. I think it's messed up to refuse a child food, but it turned out that my kid's autistic and her "pickiness" is actually sensory issues. Had I followed that advice, I think it would have been really harmful. Even outside of neurotypes though, there are reasons why kids don't want to eat things. Hell, there are reasons why adults don't, but we just accept that.

Family vlog channels shouldn’t exist. And if they have to exist, kids need a choice if they want to be in a video or not
@FoxVox Жыл бұрын
As a parent who is on KZbin quite a lot, I can say that there are some fantastic family channels out there. Most often these channels will focus on the blogger themselves, the parent. Often time a good family channel will take the time to remove their kid from the content, any identifying markers, and just give good sound parenting advice for other people to take or leave, depending on their parenting styles. Thanks to your channel, Ready to Glare and a few others I’ve learned not to click on, or give any views to family channel that exploit their children. I also let my kid watch videos on KZbin and I have to be extremely diligent about what kind of content pops up they could be watching and alphabet video and alphabet lore comes up, which is certainly not children appropriate Any parent that is chronically online should be demonetized and demotivated from using that platform to further cause harm to their children. But then again, the world wouldn’t know about her awful parenting practices if she didn’t share her dumb content so…

My husband does security ( did a lot of military and high priority contracts) and having my kids out there seems dangerous to me in the first place. People get obsessed and will stalk people. Adults get targeted and sometimes ended. Why would you want to risk that for your children? On top of that deep fakes are made of kids as well in adult scenarios. This entire concept is gross and dangerous to me personally. The lunch thing was absurd at best. As an adult I forget things. You know if my husband punished me for forgetting stuff it would be called DV. Just going to put that out there. I have 4 kids and we encourage them to do things on their own. I've also made it clear it's ok to ask for help and I don't expect them to be perfect. The food thing really bothers me. Ever since my kids were little I have always had things they could get to eat on their own. Denying them food is just cruel in my opinion. This lady seems like a masochist.

I've watched several videos on this and it's seriously so horrific! I heard the phone call the neighbor made when the boy asked for help and it's truly heartbreaking, you can hear him choke up when describing the state the child is in. The way Ruby (and Jodi) talk about parenting and children is extremely disturbing. Some people really have no business being parents and my heart aches for all the children who have to live with such parents.

I've seen other videos about Ruby being arrested, but none had such a vivid description of how the kids were when found... the image of the kid running, skinny and hurt, looking for help, is beat by beat the intro of "Martyrs". Literally a horror movie. This story keeps getting me dumbfounded as to how it took so long for this woman to see any consequences for her actions.

A lot of content creators have been talking about this situation so, I think you're pretty safe. The degree of abuse inflicted on these children is very serious and at this point, there are simply too many people and news organizations to threaten and send cease and desist letters to. Personally, I don't think any child should be put on social media without their faces blurred until they can consent.

I am both ecstatic but also heartbroken at the arrest. Ecstatic because justice is finally being served even though my expectations of anything going further than this will happen like I have doubts Ruby will face actual jail time or at least lose full custody of her kids but I hope at least one of those things will happen. I'm hearbroken because it had to come this far for the arrest to happen that one of her children had to have been in the situation where they had to escape after being abused and malnourished. IMO, the arrest should've happened a long time ago.

Dont know this family, but if these kids have been reporting to CPS or 911 for years without action, they really should sue BIG. And all parties should lose their job and pensions and face charges. That's basically co-conspiritor behavior to hear the abuse 2nd hand and do nothing

I can confidently say the answer is no for way too many children and that needs to change a lot. I'm so sad that it took so long for those children to get rescued. But happy it didn't take longer or take one of their lives in the process.

In defense of life coach’s. I went through 5 psychologists, none of them were helping me with my problems or giving me the tools to thrive. Hell none of them even bothered to suggest I have ADHD or am on the spectrum. My live coach turned my life around, gave me the tools needed to rewire my brain, was the first to suggest I am on the spectrum (I am). He did in 1 year what 10 years of “professionals” couldn’t.

Not hopeful that it ever fully will, but at least events like this over the years are making people more aware and diligent as to what's going on behind the scenes.
