I am so confused how saxton hale could possibly believe the tf2 team is "subnormal". The medic stole his teamates souls and outsmarted the devil, scout learned how to jump off the air, the engineer can fit super turrets into suitcases, pyro... is pyro, soldier basically flies with his rockets, heavy can take 30 bullets to the heart before he dies, spy can use paper masks to magically make himself look just like the enemy, sniper is basically hawkeye, and demoman fights people that have guns with a sword and shield

Heavy has a degree in Russian literacy. Engineer is smart as hell. Medic, even though he is a mad scientist, he can read. Sniper I assume reads. and Spy is a master at 4 languages.

Heck, Pyro's smart enough to become a CEO in six months, while Soldier can be a decent tactician when he needs to be. I think he can also read, it's just more interesting for him to skim Sun Tzu's "Art of War" and add in shit where he thinks it'd be more badass. As for the "sex criminal" thing, it's probably just Soldier's fondness for streaking.

If you all ever wonder why the mercs are considered a joke in-universe... Scout: man child, he's 27 and acts 15. Soldier: Soldier. Pyro: Pyro. Demo: he is middle class by TF2 standards, like, he has a fancy mansion for his mom and a cool car and that's it, also he's an alcoholic from a family known for killing themselves in explosions. Heavy: they just think he's an idiot with dementia for his guns and food. Engi: they think he's crazy, plus he isn't ultra muscular like his grandpa. Medic: Medic. Sniper: an Australian who sucks at melee is seen as a disgrace. Spy: they don't like him because he's french.

Wait, who are the four mercs that can't read? The three I think of are Pyro, Soldier, and maybe scout, but heavy is a lot smarter than he looks based on the comics. Medic and Engineer both use blueprints and other smart guy things, spy has a taunt that is him reading, and demo man worked in a library so he OBVIOUSLY knows how to read. And sniper seems fairly above average in intellect along with Medic and Engi.
