My intro was "Jump In the Fire" and the guitars were indeed (as you put it) "hurtful"! Love that. They were the heaviest and most extreme and most riff-prolific metal band of the time, Flying the flag for metal more explicitly than anyone had before. The name alone promised much.

Eddie Trunk first one to play them on the radio. Johnny Z came into the station Eddie was working at and asked him to play Jump in the fire.

Do you not think this album and Metallica owe a lot to the NWOBHM? You say nothing was like it before, but acknowledge Metallica took a lot from Venom and Motorhead. I would argue they also took a lot from Diamond Head- to the extent I would say 'Lightning to the Nations' is the blueprint for Metallica's sound on this album. This is to the extent that Metallica could cover "Am I Evil?" and a lot of people thought it was a Metallica original, it fits so well.

Yes, they were greatly influenced by the NWOBHM, but they don't make that kind of music, and it's new. There's a tiny bit of Diamond Head to it, and even less Motorhead and almost no Venom.

@@Matias-music-71No. And a big reason they covered several "obscure" bands on their albums was to get exposure and royalties to bands who otherwise would have gotten little to nothing from the music industry. Including Diamond Head who basically destroyed their prospects by having the singer's mom manage them, and signing to MCA who by the 80's were probably the worst of the major labels.
