The video would be the same of this one. CFO is just a promoted controller. The controller reports directly to the CFO and usually eventually replaces him or you apply for a CFO / VP of Finance job after you have a few years of experience as a controller.

Hi Bill, thanks for your videos, really helpful for appreciating the scope of the job. Could you please make a video about how to manage an accounting team? I’ve got all the knowledge/experience/certification for becoming a Financial Controller. What’s holding me back is the lack or more likely a fear of managing a team of people. What would be the best role for a person who doesn’t want to manage others? I like responsibilities of a Financial Controller and can do that comfortably and love putting together Financial and Performance reports but not sure I’d like to manage people. I wouldn't mind seeing a video focusing on financial reporting. That's a skill set that I want to develop, but I don't know-how. I have an associate in accounting. I worked in AR, but didn't deal with a high-level of finical reporting. I'm not sure how to get in a position where I can learn more about financial reporting. Until I get one, I wouldn't mind a video on it. I also wouldn't mind hearing your personal experience as being a financial analyst and an account manager. Was there anything that you wished you had known before taking on any of those roles? Were the steps you took to become a controller intentional, or did you simply want to advance your career over time?

Somewhat. It’s easy to go from software to services or manufacturing. I find it hard to do legal firms or any business that’s a partnership, because i am so used to corporation

CMAs can earn more than CPAs and have better career satisfaction. But I find that CPA jobs are more plentiful. So the choice for me was CPA

I want to transition my career and be a CMA. Currently I review commercial real estate documents including the income, cash flow, balance sheet documents and projection in appraisal reports for the purposes of quality control. I don't make financial decisions. I only summarize information or work with the appraisers in revising or clarifying information for underwriting purposes. I make a salary slightly above the population average. With the proper education, can I transition to this track without a severe cut in income? My education is in economics.

I prefer you take an "Accounting Manager" role that oversees both AR/AP plus some financial reporting. In doing so, you will get good exposure to AP.

The cash flow statement bridges net income to cash on the balance sheet. Depreciation decreases your net income, but it doesn’t effect cash (its like a “paper” expense) so you add it back on the CFS

I was thinking a double major in finance and business administration would be ideal, but now I’m conflicted. For controller role, only an accounting degree and a CPA are required. MBA is not a big deal for controller roles

Hi. When you make the move to finance you will be taking a risk of losing the job if you don’t perform good. So I would say make the move when you have extra money saved. Also sometimes you take a reduction in salary initially when you switch, but long term more money. Watch more videos on KZbin about NPV, ROI, how to budget, etc

200k is really high. Small to medium companies in US typically pay 90-130. Big companies are in the 140-165 range. Maybe you could get 200k if you worked for a huge multinational company.

Hi, I don't think CFA helps a whole a lot. CFA can position you for a financial analyst role leading you to the FP&A route (a great route actually)
