Sometimes you see a cowboy boot that looks too good to be true. While the style looks great, you know there’s more under the surface.
Well, I’ve been eyeing Chisos Boots for about a year now, and I picked up their No. 1 and No. 5 to see if this brand is the real deal.

I love my black No. 5's! I literally wear them every day and they were super comfortable, right out of the box. All the leather Chisos uses comes from "retired" dairy cows.

what you say about the materials certainly is important. it is so tempting to cut corners with say a pigskin lining in the boot below the shaft or using a composite heel stack. i have tried lots of cowboy boots recently and even though i like the snip toe sometimes it does create pressure on the toes for me but a wide square toe is visually disappointing. i have been digging ropers and narrow square toes. my favorites currently are Rios of Mercedes, Black Jack, and Santa Rosa. you have to do your homework and some sleuthing to find good prices. Got Black Jack ropers this week for 380 with a coupon.

Thanks for the great boots review. Best pair of boots I've ever had was an elephant hide boot. Wore those for over ten years and the elephant hide looked brand new the whole time, without a single polish. I finally wore out the heels and had them redone but my feet grew too big and I couldn't fit into them and had to give them up. Now-a-days, it's illegal to sell them in CA. so you can't even find them. They also had a distinctive greyish-blue natural color; they were awesome! They were $600 in the 80s so now they would probably cost over $2,000, if you could find them.

I prefer the hardleather insole as well. I wasn't sure you could wear Chisos with out the insoles.

Interesting point about the sizing with and without the insoles. I've seen a lot of reviews of chisos and I've never seen anyone have the same problem as you.

I wear a 10.5 in sneakers but when I got my king ropers i ordered them in an 11 and they fit perfectly. i applied this sizing to my no.1's and I deal with the same vamp issues as Bootspy, I think I just have wide feet but yeah the leather insole is very comfortable anyways.

William, you can condition, color, and waterproof roughout leather ( also suede and nubuck ) with Saphir Médaille d'Or Renovateur spray. It is available in neutral and colors. Follow up with Super Invulner spray for more waterproofing.

Ita quite ironic that a lot of us, for nostaligic reasons or where and how we grew up are navigating back to western boots. Currently i own 3-pairs of Tecovas and love them. A pair of chisos are next for me.

I recently saw a pair of Tony Lama cowboys that were nib on Facebook market for $100 a couple weeks ago. I offered $75 and the lady took it. First pair of cowboy boots and they’re traditionally made with hard leather insoles, lemon wood pegs and brass nails. I’ve have been using excuses to wear em since they came in. They’re so nice to wear I wanna get a pair of chisos now

You dont need to find an excuse to wear your boots, just wear them. As far as Chisos, I've been wanting a pair for 2 years. A year ago I started saving up spare cash / gift cards, whatever. I was finally able to order some Chisos. Love, love, love the boots. Built fantastic, really good looks, extremely comfortable, and you seriously won't have any better relationship with a company. They have gone above and beyond with these boots, and their company model. I highly suggest you take the plunge, and treat yourself. It's totally worth it.

I’ve always had a love of the cowboy boot. I owned a few pairs in the 90s. Easier to get away with when you’re young I think. Especially here in the UK. But I’m still tempted.

I never thought to remove the comfort insole from my Chisos #1. I have the same problem as you as the vamp is too tight for me. I am going to take your advice and remove it. And I love that when that happens, I will be able to break them in better. On another note, I beleive you are pronouncing Lucchese wrong. the "ch" sound is pronounced like a "k" sound.

Thick ass leather! They use retired dairy cows for their leather. My no.2 are thick and heavy/sturdy. Might pick up the no.1 for my birthday.

for a $500 pair of boots the foam foot bed is ridiculous! the leather work looks great ! but you can get a boot with a cork filled insole with a veg tan leather foot bed as well as lemon pegs in the sole for much less. The reviewer mention tacovas boots which have all of what I just mentioned for under $300.

to be clear, the footbed is veg-tan leather. These just also come with a high density foam removable insert which I took out. So these do indeed have an all-leather insole, lemonwood pegs, and a bit of cork filler around where the steel shank is.

Wear only in dry weather. I got 6 months wear before the thread separated between the sole and boot. They are beautiful and comfortable. If you want them for looks just put them on the shelf but don't wear. I have owned many cowboy boots here in Washington and even the cheap boots do not have this problem. I contacted Chisos and was told not to get them wet? I did not walk in water except in the rain and avoided puddles. If you live where there is no rain take the $500 gamble and good luck. I have many boots that are still serviceable.....NOT Chisos.

All leather sole boots shouldn't be worn in the rain. Leather soaks up water like a sponge.

@@martinez1950 I am 79yrs old and have worn cowboy boots for most of my life is rain, snow sleet and mud. All have done well for me. It is not the leathers fault. Do you wear plastic or rubber shoes in the rain. keep them in your backpack so you can stop at all mud puddles and change before crossing are all your footwear synthetic? Get real! In my youth we used to stand in water with boots on and walk them dry for a good fit. Never had to wring the "sponge" dry. They all survived fine. After talking to Chisos the problem has been solved to mutual satisfaction. There is a sealer/glue that is used on the sole to prevent the problem I had and is being now used. Chisos is a reputable firm with good customer support. What do you wear to work or are you behind a desk? I have been a construction machine operator and a farm boy all my life. Cowboy boots have been my preferred and worn footwear on the farm and when operating equipment. Even the cheapest Ariat to my most exotic Lucchesi have done well in the wet weather. Leather and rubber sole alike. Maybe you have been buying faux leather
