Played this game too, and I think the story is the boy cheated the offering with our help, so the dragon (I see it as god) punished him buy falling of the tower and break his leg. He then devoted his whole life through sacrifice (red), faith (yellow), prayers (blue), grace (green) and finally wisdom (purple) to the dragon, and in the end, his is accepted by his god. Other things I've noticed is that the town seems to have been destroyed by war and rebuild, you can see bit's of this when finding the yellow fruit and blue fruit.

I love the last part especially because it looks seems like the game is telling us god is always watching us and god lives through us.

I think rather than not being accepted because our help, it was because he offered material things instead

I couldn't understand the story, but the puzzle journey was amazing.

I always saw the beast and offering more metaphorically than literal, where the fruits are the different experiences he had throughout life, then when he reflects on all of them at the end he is able to connect them together as one experience. Then the way the boy moves through the scenes is like how our thoughts have a connection, stringing them together. The beast I think is more the curiosity of the unknown in youth. Where it seems unknowable and mysterious, then as an old man he has a better understanding of what it is. That's my best guess though.
