Will you remind me which rods you use with Corkies. They seem longer than what I throw but you may be a bit taller than me. I throw 6’6” & 6’8” Waterloo’s and a custom built 6’8” but am thinking I may try even a 6’ given the density of Corkies so long as it’s medium light to medium with a fast tip for the twitches

Yeah they were thumping it hard! idk how I lose so many. Maybe tighten my drag like someone commented. How tight do you normally keep your drag?
@CoastalK3 жыл бұрын
StixHD I think that as long as your rod is bowed up, that’s plenty pressure on the fish. I probably keep my drag on the tighter side. I don’t know if it matters. When I get a good fish on, I start loosening up the drag and take my time.

Hey Paul I have a bait caster like the one you are using in this video how do you have it set up having to do with the brakes so I can use it for lures I don’t know much of bait casters
@NotTodayBud3 жыл бұрын
What do you look for when finding trout in the winter?
@StixHD3 жыл бұрын
Bait and structure are the main things. A lot of people also suggest specifically mud and shell. The water levels have been super super low the last couple weeks. This area was the end of a deeper hole about 4-5 ft. My theory on why the fish were there is that the fish wait at the ends of these channels while its colder. Then when the water level rises or the shallow flats warm up they leave these deeper holes and go onto the flats.
@MIKE4354354354353 жыл бұрын
I could be wrong, but I think you were losing those fish because your drag was set too lose. It sounded like your drag was letting out when you were setting the hook, thus keeping you from digging the hooks into the fishes mouth. Great job BTW, good to see other fisherman releasing fish and respecting the resource.
@StixHD3 жыл бұрын
Yeah someone else mentioned that as well. I'm gonna tighten it up on my next trip. Thanks for the advice! Hopefully it will increase my hook up ratio. Thanks for watching!
@NestorJH3 жыл бұрын
Also try to thumb your spool when setting the hook and leave the drag the same, it creates a solid hookset. Im building that habit and it definitely helps.
@StixHD3 жыл бұрын
@@NestorJH Yeah I need to develop that habit. Normally I don't like keeping my drag too tight. I feel like the looser drag helps with the bigger trout.
