One thing that can help to get a watercolor-y gradient with fabric paint is to start with damp fabric so the color bleeds and blends! I did this for my Firekeeper to get the burnt look on the skirt hem, it was a bit more difficult to see the black paint on the wet fabric but I don't think you'd have that issue with blue on white

I'll have to keep that in mind for a future project.

I got your book this week & I'm so excited to learn more from it! For your beautiful satin skirts, you NEED a steamer! Hand pressing is just not a sustainable practice with that many yards of fabric! How have you survived so long making so many layers of skirt without steaming out wrinkles? 😱 lol Do yourself the biggest favor ever & invest in a professional large size one, it will save you so much time & you can get wrinles out after you've added rhinestones, beads & paint!

I have a hand held steamer and it's okay but it takes ages to steam anything. A lot of my gowns are made of silk so I can't use steam to get the wrinkles out because the moisture will ruin the fabric.

Is making a huge trained gown skirt difficult because the pattern pieces are huge? Yes. Does it look absolutely gorgeous? Also yes. Am I gonna be working on my own Corpse Bride but with an Edwardian-ish twist? Definitely yes. With a huge train like yours? Oh hell yes! For those who are also making their corpse bride cosplays, to make the pieces manageable to fit in standard width fabric (60 inches wide I mean), I suggest making the skirt a huge gored skirt, almost like an 1890s ballgown skirt with pleats in the back to contain the volume and be more adjustable because adding or removing pleats can make waists bigger or smaller but with a gored trained skirt, you have to assemble massive pieces and even it all out since theres gonna be literal wedges of excess length on the hem that has to be evened out anyways.

Have you considered spraying the skirt with your watered down paint to get that splotchy grave-mold effect?
