I'm grateful for this renewed distinction. I've read some mixed reviews on this Revelation. Many people are very supportive of this change and wished and perhaps wondered why the official name for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hadn't happened years ago. Some, however, have been critical for this change in the sense of accusing our current Prophet, President Nelson, and previous ones. While I don't know All the reasons for why we accepted the nicknames for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or the exact reason Why we need to revert back to the original instruction as lined out in the Doctrine and Covenants (Doctrine and Covenants 115:4) I have tried to be conscientious about this topic. In my opinion, I think the reason for this "sudden" change is because unlike previous generations in the 20th and early 21st Century, various people are focused on Identity or identifying with a specific group or idea. This isn't to stay that there haven't been movements or a generation of youth who wanted to have an identity and something to belong to so they could feel like they are a part of things and so they belong. However, I've noticed that in these past few years (in these early 2020's especially), the concept of Identity and Identifying one's self has been amplified and in order for the Lord's Church to stay afloat, I believe this instruction was given now, rather than earlier.

@@chloerogers5419 No, typos in the KJV bible were present in the 1830 edition of the Book of Mormon. 2 Nephi 16:2 compared to Isaiah 6:2 for example.

Hey President Nelson🤍My family Surname had changed with my dad because of my grandmother's second marriage. After becoming a true & faithful LDS Member the Spirit prompted me to correct my Surname👻I corrected my Surname and restored my family's name temporally and spiritually. While the Tabernacle Choir does strive to be representatives for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it is not the Church itself. I don't know All the reasons why something happened a certain way that can seem contradictory, but perhaps for a while the Lord allowed the name, "Mormon" to be used with the "Tabernacle Choir", so that it could at least be a way to help outsiders recognize and connect with those who belong to Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. Perhaps the Lord was more concerned about inviting people to Him, rather than being concerned about being technical. Yes, it would have been nice to stay consistent with the Revealed Truth as found in Doctrine and Covenants 115:4, but perhaps this is revealed Now, because certain people in today's World are choosing to focus on segmentation and identifying specific groups from each other.

We might also add that the name Mormon (although we respect him) was adopted by others as a derogatory term towards us. This modern world seems so insistent that we not use derogatory terms for others. We should insist that they not use them towards us.

I am soooooooo thankful that we don't necessarily have a derogatory term. "Mormons" is incorrect, but it's not hateful or evil. That being said, I emphasise Christ when I hear it nowadays.

This has been a bother to him since before his 1990 conference address on this same topic. Why didn’t God give a revelation to Ezra Taft Benson in, or before 1990? After he was God’s current Prophet. Or why not to his successor Howard W Hunter? Or his Gordon B Hinckley, or his Thomas S Monson? Since his introduction of this idea there have been 4 Prophets leading the the Church that God didn’t reveal this commandment. What about the 12 prophets preceding Nelson’s announcement in 1990? Why has this been unimportant to God until a man becomes Prophet who has this as a personal bug-a-boo? God had 28 years from the time of Nelson’s initial announcement in 1990 until he revealed it in 2018 to the man who has had this as a pet peeve for decades. Look up the previous GAs comments on this topic. Start with Gordon B Hinckley’s extolling the use of “Mormon”. Was Hinckley a false and fallen Prophet? Were all of the GAs who used mormon, or LDS agents of Satan. Nelson’s pronouncement is pretty damning.

Because revelation is ever given by the Lord. Not all is given at once. Not all that we must do will be given to President Nelson but to the prophet after him. Would you dictate the way the Lord chooses to reveal how we should refer to the church and ourselves? It also was not until President Nelson that we began doing at home learning with Come Follow Me. Many did not understand why this was necessary outside of simply creating more family time. However, the outbreak of Covid 19 has made it abundantly clear that we were being prepared to do all of our learning and worship at home. The Lord introduced the Word of Wisdom slowly. Simply enough, the saints at that time were not ready to quit cold turkey. That is why the Lord told them ahead of time that it would be implemented. The saints are now ready, and it is necessary for them to, to take upon them the name of Christ and endure to the end. Those who did not do this when it was not commanded will not be condemned to punishment. Those who ignore these principles due to their own unwillingness to accept Christ's name after the guidance is given will be accountable for it. Our willingness to refer to ourselves as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has and will continue to make us ready to face the advisary knowing who it is we serve. President Nelson is the living prophet on the earth today. He is called of God to lead the saints in these latter days. He is sustained by the disciples, general authorities, and apostles on this earth today.

Why does God allow his children to spend so long in darkness when he is the light? It's to make his light more meaningful. You'll never fully appreciate the light if you haven't fully experienced the darkness, just like we may have never fully appreciated the correct name of the church if we hadn't gone through such a long time without it. In the past, the church was in some very precarious positions. When the nickname "Mormons" first came about, it was during the time when persecution of the church was so bad people had to leave their homes and migrate to Utah, by the Lord's command. I believe contradicting those who called us Mormons in that time may have ended in a lot more bloodshed than anyone could stand, so maybe God allowed it to protect us. But now, changing the way we address the church is no longer dangerous, only mildly inconvenient. Those who respect the lord and his church will gladly return to its correct name now that God has decreed it needful.

Thank You, I think its way over due, and think we should drop the Latter day Saints as well. I have been prompted several times by the spirit to follow the direction of the Prophet Nelson and use" the Church of Jesus Christ", and any other names are slang, and not correct. It is his Church.

Glory to the most high! I am glad and feeled with joy to hear this . When people said they were mormons whatever l am not . I am of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Father and his spirit walks in me. I was always telling the missionaries why put so much attention on Smith and Mormon. Maybe the Book should have had a higher title To the Lord and to his Glory . or anything referring to his holy name . who is a profit in the last days? No One is. profits are of old. We are seers! Become friends with the Lord and he will interduce you to the Father in heaven. This is the royel priesthood. Go ahead ask him yourselves ! The Word. The Sons of God are creators.
