Thank you brother! My girl is 6 years old and starting softball this year. I’m really want her to get started on the right path. Your analysis makes so much sense. One thing I believe (and this is purely anecdotal) is if a swing looks beautiful, chances are it’s a good hitter. Baseball, softball, golf. Anytime I golf with someone who has a beautiful swing, they never suck. They have good timing, good lag, balanced body, use their legs and it sounds good at contact. Same with baseball/softball. Those 2 ladies you feature have sweet looking swings. The ugly swing (to me) are those upper-body-driven, front-leg-bent, push swings that just look ugly, like a slap hit or a drag bunt. Anyway, I just think there’s a correlation there and maybe it’s confirmation bias, but I’m going to teach my girl what you’re teaching me. I just hope her coach doesn’t try to teach her the opposite. You will notice all the way up to and through 14u to some degree the softball is always dropping to the plate at 5 to 10 degrees stand behind the backstop even the youth riser ball drops right before the plate Matt's videos are excellent

Another great video and spot on analysis. You are correct about a rise ball doesn't really rise unless it is high and out of the strike zone. It won't drop as much because of Magnus Force. You would need to throw the ball 65-70 mph and put 3500 rpm backspin or more to have it rise and be a strike. Professor at University of Illinois has don't a lot of research on this.

the downward ANGLE is not the path, but from the load position to the bat path. Too many kids are being taught to finish high so they DROP THEIR HANDS from the load position to the bat path and swing up not horizontal(level) or SLIGHTLY up, but DRAMATICALLY UP. These two examples show from load downward angle to bat path then level or slightly (very slightly) up

Good video. Some coaches use phrases like “swing down” trying to correct a problem. And not meaning for them to actually swing down like chopping. It’s “feel vs real”.

3:59 that's called getting into a really good lag position and being on plane with the ball. One of the tendencies of elite hitters

My 6y/o girl just made the 10u state rep. coz of what I've been teaching her from most of your style of play. But the team has a different coach from the ppl that did the selection on tryouts. This new coach has been telling my daughter to stretch her arms out and swing down. Really frustrates me. Now she can barely get the ball pass the pitcher when hitting due to ground ball

Coach, Can you do a video showing this view of Sierra Romero hitting a pitch just above her knees. I've seen you talk about the angle of the upper body and the angle of the shoulders during rotation. I'd love to hear your instruction for the bat plane on the lower pitch and how the batters upper body is used to create the proper bat path for a low strike.

That's exactly what I've been wanting to see for awhile. Alissa Haber has got vids.showing lower pitch and she gets in what she calls a slot position and manipulates her body to get on plane.

I think because pitches break, to meet them too early can be bad, unless youre intentionally doing that for situational hitting.

I guess there's people out there that teach swing down, I've been knowing lessons and coaching for around 15 years and I've never seen anybody ever coach to swing down to the ball, I've never seen a high-level softball player or college ball player that had that swing. It's just like anything else in life is somebody tells you something, don't always take it for face value look it up do your research,

Ok and l hope you read this you are so correct about what you are. Saying and l have remarked on this before but #1 the bat working down and behind please look at John Schlee video on Joe Morgan and Ben Hogans move into power plane Ted Williams called it flattening out the bat the best move is a feeling of pulling a rope over your shoulder and bat awareness where's the knob in it's move into the lag position swinging the sweet spot like it's a paddle through the zone VIA the taper of the bat to the power V the role of the fingers do you know that the palm of your hand only makes up12.5 per cent of your hand your thumb the same fingers make up 75 per cent and the trigger fingers can cause you trouble look at John Schlee again on this ok another thing look at top women pitchers you do but men also play this game look at guys like Adam Folkar d from Australia you have to shorten up against guys like that also when you talk about the rise ball don't forget it's the low rise ball that is a good pitchers ace in the hole l have a picking machine set up for fast pitch 39.5 ft away 75 to 80 and l am still pounding at 77 yrs of age still have home run power there is a difference between baseball and fast pitch but not drastic l hit out of a crouch hunt slightly down and in and get myself in a position to do damage on low pitches my machine throws me all kinds of pitches movement drops low rises loves to jam me

You are teaching this swing as a softball swing, but this is all baseball swing.

Your mistake in my opinion is you are looking at the most talented people. The average girl is not going to be successful with this swing.
