Of all the rescue phases, shoveling generally takes the most time. Although a well-practiced avalanche transceiver search will have determined the burial location within approx. 2 to 3 minutes and there’ll be a probe hit within another 30 seconds to a minute, you’ll often need 4 to 5 minutes to free the burial victim. When doing so, it is important to get to their head as quickly as possible.
