Hey, has the fireproof card storage episode came out yet? That's horrible that our community friend lost everything in a fire! I would cry as a grown man for years if that happened to me. If it hasn't came out yet. I might have some useful ideas. Things like areogel have high insulation properties, but I don't know how available it is. BUT now I am thinking of vacuumed sealed containers like tumblers and ice chest these days. Thwy are easy to find. A vacuum doesn't transfer temperature very well. It's a great insulator. My first thought was glass, but we've all seen glass melted in fires. Soo. I would start at trying to find the average Temperature that a house fire gets to. And I'm sure location from the center of your house of the edge of your house could make a big difference in temperature too. I would start with that Data, then find combinations of heat resistant materials, possibly exhaust pipe wrap at some layer? There is also eng8ne paint, I remember being rated at about 500 degrees. I guess my idea would be to add a heat resistant layer to a vacuum sealed ice chest. And probably a a few other materials to make sure those thousands of degrees never make it to the cards by the time the house is fully burned down and out of fuel. So time is also a factor

Had a bunch of cards on display at my old place which was right by a window and the light would hit them while I was work.. Hey Pat. Really enjoying this series! "Bad binder behavior" gave me the push I needed to finally just invest the money to upgrade everything to nice side-loading binders. Could you do a video about sealed promo cards? How to store them, reasons to open certain cards (vs keeping sealed) to store in the ways you already covered, do some storage methods lead to "crimples"!? It'd be awesome to get your opinion. Great video! I will say this though. You were exactly on point with how some card cases do absolutely nothing to protect UV. Your experiments inspired me to conduct my own and I went to see if the most popular UV card case was actually protecting cards and surprise… it didn’t. But something else I found was that unless a card is in DIRECT sunlight it won’t fade anything. I even put a card on my window sill for 3 weeks and it was fine. The window might block more UV than we realize? Either way displaying cards should still be okay in a sunlit room as long as it’s not directly and constantly pointed at them. I wanted to just share my own findings and thank you for always sharing yours. Keep up the good work and I can’t wait for the next experiment!

Hey Pat, I am very grateful for the videos on how to store cards. I am fairly new with collecting (from halfway through Battle Styles. After watching your videos, I realised that my collection is not the greatest. Main issue is the folder inserts - I have two cards back to back in each pocket. I have now transferred to using only the ones that allow one card per side of the pocket. Also means that they can easily be sleeved. In the previous ones I could not really place cards in sleeves. It was very informative and I feel a lot more confident storing my cards. Thank you.

Another thing I would add to the fire, water-damaged, theft, or other weather-related damaged cards is to have insurance, especially if you have a very pricey collection. Sure it would not bring the cards back to life or bring them back, but at least you can recuperate the value or at least partial the value of the cards. Check your insurance policy to see if they cover collectibles or not, sometimes some policies like some homeowners' insurance have umbrella policies that can cover events like theft for example. There are umbrella insurance policies that can cover a lot of things including legal disputes (depending on the policy), fire insurance, of flood insurance for water damage since many house insurance companies do not cover floods because of expensive water damage. I would also check your state's laws and the court system to see how they rule in cases of disputes. For example in my state, it is common for the courts to side with the insurance companies than with the policyholders, but the reason why is because there are very specific laws on how an insurance policy is made, etc. If your homeowner's insurance, flood insurance, fire insurance, business-liability insurance, theft insurance, etc don't cover there is always collectible insurance, but they tend to not take policyholders until a certain threshold of value is met. Also, take good records of your collection. Take note of the condition or grade of the cards and explain them with sources to back up the grades (i.e. how does TCGplayer grade cards, how does X condition cards, etc). If you have things PSA'ed register them to the PSA registry, take pictures, and video, and back them up into the cloud. I also suggest doing things like timestamping your pictures and videos (or shifting through your binder for example), and also recording the prices of your collection either on a TCG application or with a link to a legitimate big website like TCGplayer and NOT sites that have individual trading/auction/or other purchasing like Reddit, Discord, Craiglist, Facebook Marketplace. I also do not suggest auction sites like Ebay since insurance companies will often the lowest price regardless of condition but it can work with some companies as a good back up. Edit: If you do have a policy that covers collectibles, do check the policy limit. For example many home insurance only cover the value of the home and not the items inside the house (that is what homeowner's insurance is for). I will also look for additional policy terms and conditions. These lines are typically called riders. You can check insurance information by calling your insurance agent or company. If you are searching for insurance O highly recommend searches for insurance. Many states do have their own sites in which you can research legitimate insurance companies and if they can insure in that state or not.

I put my rare cards in a sleeve with a card saver over it with two pieces of cardboard on each side wrap with a elastic band in a cardboard box full of bubble wraps on top of a shelf away from sunlight.
