NOTE FROM TED: We’ve flagged this talk, which was filmed at an independent TEDx event, because it appears to fall outside TEDx’s content guidelines. This talk only represents the speaker’s personal beliefs about fate. The guidelines we give our TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/t...
What does it mean to be in the perfect place at the perfect time? And how do we square that with circumstances that challenge us, like illness, loneliness, or stress? In his honest and inspirational account, Jim Curtis takes us on a journey through history and heart to help us discern and decipher the cosmic signs that our lives really are “meant to be”-and that we have the ability to create the life we want. With insightful wit and compassionate questioning, Curtis challenges us to widen our perception and pay attention to our intuition around the synchronicities sent to show us that, even when life doesn’t feel perfect, we’re exactly where we need to be. Jim Curtis has had a prolific career in health publishing, serving as a key leader in the rapid growth of three leading national health sites, WebMD, EverydayHealth and Remedy Health Media. Named an “elite disruptor” by pm360, and the recipient of Pharma Voice’s Top 100 Most Inspirational in Health, Curtis revamped the standard at Remedy by telling emotionally charged stories infused with immersive multimedia content- inspiring people to live better - now, elevating Remedy to a “Crain’s Fastest Growing Company” in NYC. Jim is the author of the new book, The Stimulati Experience (Rodale), that curates transformational skills learned from 20 years of fighting a chronic health condition of his own while serving as a patient advocate. He is the creator of the documentary series, Elders, an active public speaker, board member and business coach to start-up entrepreneurs. Jim’s focus is on achieving health, happiness and purpose through mindset - lowering inflammation in the mind and body. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Mr Curtis, your talk affected my life instantaneously. I really hate to begin my Sunday mornings crying. It doesn't happen often but sometimes the pang of loneliness and aloneness is overwhelming. This was one of those mornings. There's no one really to call except my deaf 83 year old mother. So, I pick up my cell phone and scroll through the current events on KZbin, I click on my subscriptions, then TedTalks, then your Tedtalk. I listened intently and begin to cry very hard because, once again, I have no one to share my thoughts, my feelings with, reminding me of my loneliness, my aloneness. I close your video and the next one I see is entitled, "Do You See the Signs of the Universe?" Yes. I see them. I didn't have to look far because we are all connected to each other and then to the Universe. The awesome thing is, like you said, I honestly don't believe I'd be feeling so elated and grateful right now had the Universe not unfolded as it did this morning, connecting with perfect strangers. Thank you so much, friend. God speed!

You're not alone. What I learn is that, the more we're enlightened, more ascended, the more we'd feel lonely in the physical. I do too feel at times my friends and family just couldn't get what I want to share, some even choose to distance themselves from me. Just know that, as you raise your frequency, you might lose people who are not on the same frequency as you are. And instead, YOU ARE CONNECTED to a new frequency of people. Just be who you are, embrace every awakening opportunities, continue to raise your vibration. Focus less on the people who are not with you, and why they're not with you. Get rid of the old. Then new opportunities, people will come your way :)

I recently gifted my ex a yellow origami butterfly as a sign of his love for me, even at my worst. I feel grateful for his presence in my life right now. I feel this was a sign, to let go of what was bad and cherish the beautiful moments we had. Because it was all real. And it was good.

I was listening to it in the car, and just as I slowed to turn onto my street, right as you said “if you buy a yellow jeep…” a yellow jeep turned left in front of me 🤯 I was clearly led to this video. Having a life partner is a wonderful thing. Yet I am not sure if that person is the one to whom I should give my all. Or if I should expect that person to always motivate me to be the best person I can be. Sometimes, instead of being the whole focus of my self, it is good to have a life partner at my side, to focus together on life, the universe, and everything. Remember, if a life mate is something you deeply want, it exists. It may help to avoid focusing on that relationship not yet being in your life, and to try to relax into the knowing that it will happen in the perfect place, at the perfect time. You are complete just as you are. Follow your heart into your own interest and things that draw you to them. Someone said, 'In the path of your own happiness you will find your soulmate.' Don't put yourself on hold, don't put your own life on pause waiting for this person. Let yourself BE yourself.

@@Jefferdaughter Thank you! Even in 2 months my perception has changed and recently I met someone, dated then stopped dating them and I am seeing that I have been trying to force my will and I haven't been trusting the universe to provide me with this marriage that I have been asking for, for a very long time now. Instead, I keep attracting very similar situations because it is the love I feel I am deserving of. I know my husband is "out there", in fact I know he is very near. I know I haven't met him or it hasn't worked because I am holding on too tight, expecting to feel fireworks when I meet him, expecting him to change my whole life and turn me into this butterfly from the caterpillar I feel like I am now. I am understanding that isn't how it works. That I need to be that butterfly to attract a butterfly or else I'll just keep attracting caterpillars wondering why I'm not attracting butterflies. Thank you so much for your advice! I see the universe has sent you and this other person that has commented as confirmation and advice to tell me to keep going and I'm almost there. Thanks again!

This is great stuff. Hard to grasp in the mists of hard times but pressure makes diamonds people and we are more than we think. Everything is coming at us in divine order. Take the yin in the yang. And the yang with the yin. Go with the flow of this life. Maybe you asked for it to see how you would react...you never know. Just a way to think and bend your mind. Great way to think thank you sir!

Don’t pay attention to anything you can’t control. Choose what we want our perception to be based on what we want. Synchronicities start happening. Take stalk - what were the events that got you here. Identify what you want. How do you feel? Are you ignoring your intuition?

When I was in high school, yellow butterflies used to be something I attributed as a sign from the universe to keep on living in the darkest moments of my depression. Recently I have been questioning my belief in signs and synchronicities, so I clicked on this video after literally asking the universe to help me out. I had completely forgotten about the symbol of the yellow butterfly and what it meant to me until now, as he mentioned yellow butterflies in the video (and this morning I had a pretty bad episode); signs are always around, especially if you summon them. What matters is what you choose to do.
