Nick Reyes That's what I suspected. I don't see any kind of economic driver that justifies the high prices. Typically real estate prices are tied to some sort of booming economic activity. Everyone wants to be in a certain area to be near their jobs or the hot spot of town so to speak. But this situation seems predatory and defies logic.
@ubuntumike57946 жыл бұрын
eric hughes I don't think anyone who isn't African should own a land in Africa Germans should not own land there that's what they call great investment they took the land through colonization or bought it when it was very cheap because they had the means back then while African were enslaved now are making the price high. Every land own by non African should be investigated if acquired through colonization get them back

@Mike Raymond i agree with you 💯. I don’t even live there and it pisses me off when i read these comments about non Africans have many businesses in Africa. I’ve read these comments and there’s a general misconception about how Africans live. Those homes are urban properties but Africans tend to have rural properties and land. So they may live in the cities for work but have a place in the country with their tribe/ family. They tend to spend holidays there.

It's not like that in all African countries. About 4 years ago, my late mother bought some land in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and built a small apartment building on it (about 6 units) for a total of $350,000 USD. Mind you this included the purchase of the land and the labor that was required to build the property. And it was in an upper middle class area of Dar. You just have to be smart enough to pick a country where you know you will get your money's worth. Wherever there are significant numbers of Europeans/people of European descent, you can expect the real estate prices to be ridiculous, and that's just the reality. In other words, don't pick a country like South Africa, Botswana, or Namibia. You will regret it.

@Agboka8 жыл бұрын
+Jasmain Coleman Please don't. There's a way out. Land is cheap in many other African nations and you can build a house yourself at a fraction of those astronomical prices white capitalists are throwing at our ppl. Most AAs built their own houses in Nigeria and Ghana. So others can do the same too in any part of Africa, so do not be disturbed but rather be empowered to see the devil as who he really is and know that he is a minority that can be taken down easily if we do our maths right.

Namibia was under South African rule up until 1990. Which means the area of Namibia also fell under Apartheid. Before that they were under German colonial rule. So the white people living there still own and benefit from the land and wealth they stole during that period. So when you see massive social inequality like this you must know somewhere white oppression was involved. Hiking up prices to keep out the poor who are mostly black is the modern way in which whites are implementing a new form of Apartheid/Segregation.

+kingmatt2563 Mugabe simply gave the white-seized lands to their original African/black owners. Unfortunately, the land reclaiming programe isn't quick or far-reaching enough in my opinion. It's cheaper for me to stay here in my own home, 3 bedroom, 2 bath on a acre of land about a $1,000 a yr for property and house taxes not including utilities.

Are the nicer residences closer to the water? What's the going rate for a flat per. month?
@AfroAmericaninAfrica8 жыл бұрын
There are some very nice homes on the beach in certain coastal cities like Swakopmund. The rates for flats vary based on the city/town/village. But check out google, you can find more details on rent across the country on the property websites I listed in this video's description website.

Interesting. Didn’t know property was so expensive

So what's driving the steep price hikes? Typically it's supply and demand. What's driving the demand? I don't see any kind of booming economic activity driving the demand. It's seems arbitrary and almost a price gouging situation. Also who are the owners of these properties? Is it absentee landlords living abroad? Or local entrepreneurs?

Where was this complex...? Looking at properties currently, but this doesn't look familiar at all. Thanks in advance.

Hi! That complex (my old apartment) was in Eros, same street as Mediclinic. The name is Kunene Court.

You should build more houses and roads in nambia and solar energy.

Hold up🙅. As an actual afrikan and Namibian. I do agree that our housing prices are ridiculously high, especially in windhoek, due to an increase in the demand for housing coz there's alot of rural- urban migration going on, having the fact that we do have a high unemployment rate and the city has more opportunities than any other town, however, mind you.. there are other areas that are much much cheaper to accumulate land and actually buy a house, such as the north and the coastal areas of my beautiful country. Hope this gives some of you some insight.. It's not all that expensive in all areas.. Jah bless,👸🤗

Wow, that is really expensive. I rent my own single family home for 350 month, all included save electric and heat, and that's in the American Northeast.

Love your video! I would love the chance to live in another country, especially one as beautiful as Namibia. It is sad that people cannot afford housing in their own country. It is like that where I live in Florida, although I am sure it does not begin to compare. People with money come from out of state or other countries, buy up property and charge a fortune in rent. Thank you for sharing!

So much for grass huts with mud or thatched roofs. American media never show this. I wonder why.
