I just bought the kit because I could not find the ply wood near my home in PA. Your videos and the attention to detail that you built with was one of the reasons I selected this as my project boat. You made a great boat! When are you going to post the video of the issues you have seen in design and things you would change? I am interested in your thoughts before I start my build in a few weeks. I have noticed a few things in my research and in other videos but I have not been able to find an honest review video. Just videos on the build process.

@@SchwindOutdoors thanks for offering to help! I am sure I will need some advice throughout the build and will reach out if I run into questions or issues. I am going to post my build pictures and comments on the boat builder central builders site. Will send you the link. I am interested in your boat review and future fishing videos with the boat out on the water! Thanks again!

This was an interesting build , just like you all of us skinny water fisherman that want a flats skiff but looked at production boats and went ha ,no way , but I’m a retired boat builder , so this shouldn’t be that hard , one of the things I noticed was you went first class on all your products from the okume plywood , epoxy resin, paint , non slip decking , ( new motor ) and new trailer, this kinda build would be new to me as all the boats I made over the years were made from molds ( yes I made the molds to ) but doing the stitch and glue method is something I haven’t done but seems like the most economically efficient way to do a one off build , I’m thinking on doing my own design and making one 16’ long and wider for more stability, I’m probably going the cheaper route, GP resin , 1/4 “ in ply , used trailer and motor , and just gel coated upper deck ,I’ll paint the sides and bottom, I think one of my big investments will be having a poling platform made , can’t wait to find out what you would change on your boat as I thought would had your dream machine already 🤔 I guess I have to wait to see your next video , to see if I need any changes , great build ,have fun , stay safe , and tight lines ! :)

I have an interesting video planned to discuss the things I would change. I have a good friend who also built one, so I am hoping to be able to sit down and speak with him in more of a conversation setting. That way I can talk about lessons learned from my perspective and from his. Thanks for the comment!

I am about to start epoxying my stringers this week. Anything I should know you would have changed at this stage or are the changes you would make at a later stage. Looking forward to your review video!
@SchwindOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
@@patrickyoung9228 There actually is one change that I would have made at that stage. Before gluing on your deck, I would make some small vent holes between your stringers. That will allow air flow between the chambers. This will allow you to create one vent in your deck to prevent any air expansion from popping your joints. I'll talk more about that in my next video!

I was thinking about filling in the large scupper hole and putting 3-4 round holes with scuppers that have stainless flapper valves. I know water can exit quickly but it looks like the boat gets wet easily just when standing at the stern. Can’t wait for your feedback. Thanks for the reply!
@patrickyoung92282 жыл бұрын
I would have never thought to add vent holes under the deck to avoid expansion!!! I was going to seal that entire large hull section under the deck tight! I hope you can come up with a plan for your boat to resolve the issue. To start you have access to 3 of the sections through front hatch (easy part). Could remove the grab bar, drill holes maybe 3/4” in deck where main grab bar tube goes up and drill a vent hole in the underside of the grab bar at the top almost making a vent chimney for the center sections. Could use a long drill bit at an angle to get the port and starboard two middle sections venting them through middle chamber up through the grab bar. That will leave the stern sections. Not sure how to get to those without more drastic action. I will think about it. Thanks again!

What I'm really interested in is how you built that hatch on the forward deck. I need to put a hatch in the same place on my boat once I get done with the glass work and get it flipped back over. Also, how hard was it to get a home built boat registered here in Texas? Thanks!
@SchwindOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
I cut the opening for the hatch before I glued that panel on. The opening was slightly bigger than the hatch. Then I installed the panel, glassed over it, cut the glass from the opening, faired, primed, and painted. Popped the hatch in with some sealant and attached it with stainless screws. As far as registdr8the boat, it was not difficult. Just a couple forms to fill out. They will want to see your receipts from the materials, so make sure you keep up with them. Lastly, a game warden has to inspect the boat.

Love the skiff. You’ve done awesome. I’m looking at building one as well. I’m looking at the salt boat works 14ft or the same as yours sk14. On yours, would you be comfortable taking yourself plus one other person? Or would that be too much or sketchy?
