I think that buying top of the line PC at least once in a lifetime is a nice experience ;) Also "crazy" people that bought 1080Ti when it came out and was so expensive, actually won and could play comfortably for nearly a decade, avoiding mining craze and pandemic GPU prices. And because 1080Ti has 11GB of VRAM it can STILL handle 1440p nowadays.

@@volkskrieg8735 Back when the RTX 2080 came out, my GTX 670 system started dying. I had to choose between the 11 GB 1080ti or the 8 GB 2080 at the time, and I nervously chose the 2080. 6 years later I'm very glad I made that decision even though my 2080 struggles with less vram. The reason I'm still playing with my 2080 is simple: DLSS. I would have had to replace my 1080ti a few years ago because of its inability to utilize that amazing technology.

@@FrozenVayneGames I am a PC Builder and advisor. And almost all the RTX4090 setups I built or advised I paired it with 1440p monitor and not a 4K monitor. Many others in the community questioned it like why not a 4K monitor to go with that Powerful setup. It is the matter of longevity as you said. I expect those guys to use the PC for good 5-6Yrs. And sadly RTX4090 is not capable of pushing 4K to 60fps over that long period of time. 1440p on the other-hand it can manage comfortably even after years with new titles that drop over time.

@@KING_DRANZER you're in the same boat as me, the amount of people I get talking about 4k gaming, especially those coming from console with no real idea of what the systems can/can't do tend to bring the expectations back to earth, show them a card within budget, usually 4070 or lower chugging in a RT work load in real life at 4k/upscaled and most decide that RT is too expensive and leave very happy with a good value card, usually a 6750xt for 1080p and 7800xt for a 1440p rig, lately most people have been sold on AFMF2 since reviewing likes to push doss but not the stuff the AMD cards can do, industry is completely backwards currently, 2 years ago 4090 was proclaimed to be "over kill" now it's kina become a joke, what you get for the money isn't even worth it anymore. £400+ for a 4060Ti is the biggest problem though, especially when similar priced cards don't need dlss to perform.

I really relate to this video. I built my first pc in 2012 for $450 and it understandably struggled to run modern games past 2014. I had intended on upgrading it for basically a decade, but I was broke and busy due to college, med school, and then residency. Coming out of residency one of my first big purchases was building a brand new pc with a 4080 super and ryzen 7800x3d. This thing flawlessly runs any game I throw at it at max settings and is basically silent. It feels like my waiting to upgrade paid off and I'm happy knowing that I likely can get another 10 years out of this pc lol.

it all comes down to how much you value your time and quality of experience , for example , people who really really really enjoy listening to music buy very very expensive speakers , you can hear music from a 12$ earphone from the Chinese market but you can also spend 2 grand for monitor audio speakers and hear the same songs , the difference is the quality of sound ,depth of quality , volume , and overall value of your experience

I like this style of review . There are very few reviewers focussing on the subjective experience of owning such hardware rather than just raw FPS. I like the visuals and eye candy and have a 4k144 32 inch powered by a 4080 Super. The 4090 would suit me better but £1800 is too much to pay just so you don't need to compromise settings in new titles. (The 4080 Super can do 4k100+ native in many cross gen titles which is what I mostly play , and 4k60+ with DLSS/some compromises). I bought the 4080 Super to replace a dead 2080ti on an aging 8700k system which I'll replace in the next 18 months. There I do like the idea of buying top end components for peace of mind (thinking 9950x3d/x870e board/64gb ddr5)- I didn't think I'd get 6 and a half years out of those parts. So in my mind it's justified for a platform, maybe not with a GPU so much.

The funny thing is, while I love having a powerful card such as a 4090, I often lock my FPS to 90 - 100FPS as I feel like it feels nice and fluid for the games I play plus it dramatically reduces the power draw of my 4090. So... effectively I could have saved a lot and bought a 4080 as I essentially handicap my card by limiting the FPS but then again there are some cases where only a 4090 will even hit 90 - 100 FPS so it still works out worth it for me.

Why dont you undervolt it? I have undervolted mine to 2760mhz @0975mv and limit my fps at 138 to stay in the gsync limit of my monitor, and the card rarely goes above 400w and temps stay below 64c. I have had it for almost 2 years now, and zero issues.

My experience with a 4090 setup: I've always been a console gamer, never owned a PC before in my life, mainly sticking to PlayStation because of the convenience of just sitting down and playing instantly and I thought getting a PC would be a pain. I allready have a PS5 and a 55inch LG C2 OLED so it was a solid pair as is. I don't know what happend but I just woke up in January and decided I wanted a PC, the idea of running games at 120FPS+, native 4K with RT was very appealing, especially considering i always loved the idea of playing games at max settings and see their full potential I had two options, eaither get a mid range build and see how i liked it or go for the best of the best and hope I liked it, the main thing i wanted was something that would top my PS5 I decided to go for the latter, for a 4090, 7800X3D, 32GB of DDR5 RAM and the AW3225QF 240HZ, 4K OLED monitor to top it off. All in all (got a really good deal on a 4090) came to £3000 (monitor made up £1000 of that. Had the build since April. Do I regret it? Hell no, it's another level compared to console and running everything at max settings is a blast, I do think it was overkill, especially because my main goal was to top my PS5 but it really is a great experience when I game. If you have the funds it's definitely worth having it atleast once, especially considering a GPU of that spec will last you a long time. However a 4070 would likely do a similar thing, but having no limits and never having to make compromises in power is really nice

You dont buy the latest greatest to replace with the latest greatest next year, you buy it so it last as long as possible. It's not "Losing Value" if you get the best possible experience out of it for an extended period of time... Buying a low range PC is where you waste you're money because while it might run okay now, its not going to have the longevity of higher end parts. You're not going to pull 7 years of service out of a 4060 but you can and will with a 4080.

I bought a 4080. I love it. One of the best aspects is how quiet it is. In many games I play, the fan doesn't even turn on and it passively cools itself because it makes use of the 4090 cooler, but only putting out a 4080 heating. When I first bought it I thought the fan was broken because it never turned on.

I have a 7900xtx and 7800x3d, one of the reasons that I built it is that I dont intend to upgrade again for another 10 years if possible. I built a 290x and fx8350 in 2014 and it managed to run spiderman on medium settings in 2022/3. I skipped the whole am4 gen but was able to still enjoy most of the games. The minimum requirement doesn't mean that the game wont run. It only indicates that it won't be at a standard that developer wants you to experience the game. Now that we have fsr and fluid frames GPU longevity has increased.

How long have you had the 7900xtx and 7800x3d? I just made the switch from the intel/nvidia combo and upgraded to those parts as well and was wondering how well games run and how light multi tasking performs.
@Viperveteran
@Viperveteran 3 ай бұрын
@@pmao I have had it running since Aug 2023. The games run very well at 4k obviously if you intend to run it at 1080p it handles that with ease. The only issues that I have had with games is running them with radeon adrenaline sometimes games don't like settings being duplicated you have to pick either the game manages it or adrenaline does. However, if the game doesn't like adrenaline it will just crash. So configuration can take a while to get right. As for light multitasking I have never had an issue with it. I run rainmeter, start 11, fences, playnite, hwinfo, display fusion on a triple monitor set up and still use multiple browsers and programs without any issues. I do have 64gb of ram though. The only thing I ran into is that they run hotter than my 290x and FX8350 combo. I was quite surprised but that is due to the CCD being stacked on top of the cores. I idle around 45c on the die and around 20-25c on the cores. Normal usage is around 50c with all the background apps and around 30-45 on the cores.

Nice video. I have a 4090 with a 14900k and am glad I did not buy the 4080 which I would have regretted. I play at 2k and its just fun to not care about fps at all. This is my fourth PC build and in my previous 3 I always skimped on the cpu or some other parts to save money so its nice to go all out if you can afford it. Even if you need upscaling, at 4K DLSS performance upscaling is better than 1440p DLSS Quality lol. I've been gaming since the early 80s and own computers since the mid 80s. Several times I used to own the best of the best in relation to gaming. The two common things about all those times were, the incredible feel you mention, of not having to worry about settings at all. Just run the game, have everything maxed out and enjoy not just the visuals, but the satisfaction of not having to worry about performance or losing on visuals. The second common thing was how quickly it changed from having the top of the top, to average. Because, you know, progress. The last time I bought the best I could find was back in 2014. I wasn't planning on not repeating that, but due to life (now poor), I ended up never repeating that type of purchase. In fact now I am using a mid tier laptop, from also 2014. I will tell you one thing, it's not top of the top in 2024 as it wasn't in 2014 lol. I am not like you in terms of wanting higher framerates. I was never that type of gamer. In fact as far back as I remember I look down on those who constantly complained about not hitting say 60fps, or more recent years triple digits. Even now, depending on the game, I am fine even for a FPS to play at say 45fps no problem. Other genres, much lower. What I do prefer is the visuals. I would never lower the settings to get 60, 120, 144, whatever. As long as it is playable for me, I will take the visuals. Now even though as I said I am poor, I know what I would do even if I weren't. I would build a new PC (or buy I guess a gaming laptop) with almost the best in terms of GPU, and play at no higher resolutions than 1080p. I would also buy a good 27 inch 1080p monitor for that. 4090? Nah. Probably a 4070 Super or something. So that it could still provide enough performance for 1080 for several years, AND have lower power consumption than the crazy numbers I see from the very top tiers of both Nvidia and AMD. Around 200W max is fine for me. Not 400, not 500 and definitely not anything higher. Cool video and happy gaming.

Great honest review. I have always felt that if a person is a PC gamer they should at least one time in their life build a top tier performing gaming PC. Let's be honest, most PC gamers usually play on mid tier specd PCs and when upgrading GPUs are usually looking at the same tier of the newer generation. It may or may not be completely worth it for the avg gamer. But it's quite an experience owning a top performing gaming PC that allows you to play any and every game at the highest settings and not having to worry about it. Like I said, everyone should do it at least once in their life because life is way too short. Enjoy this hobby that we all spend many hrs doing.

On the whole, i just think about "If its big and uses too much energy for the performance it provides, its not peak technology" As good tech should be performing better than the last best, and using less energy, and be smaller in general as its the building blocks to better things in the future that maybe we might actually want.

I would be rather disappointed with 4090, because it's just too overpriced for not that much performance uplift from 7900 xtx/4080 super. Plus the latter is another $150 for less VRAM. I went with an all AMD box when I did a total system overhaul in 2022 and I regret going with a Radeon RX 6800XT because the ray-tracing implementation is clearly inferior. In all other metrics the card is a beast, easily able to handle 4K resolutions at max detail in most older/less demanding games and max detail at 1440p with newer ones but I am a bit worried about how future proof it will be as undoubtedly more and more games will start to implement ray tracing. I should have been less impatient and waited for the Nvidia cards to come back in stock. Regardless, this PC is my console replacement for the foreseeable future and I am happy with it at this point.

brother, water-cool those babies. both the CPU and GPU. Create a custom loop, and hang up the build on the wall. You own a piece of gaming history where the turmoil with gpu's and CPU's was arguably just as hot as it was during covid (for different reasons obviously). Keep that chunk of gaming history cool and running forever!

I've bought my 4090 1,5 year ago when I was swithching from FullHD VA monitor to OLED LG 42' TV and I am happy with my choice so far. It fits MiniITX case (NR200), runs cool and silent, pulls under 300W @120FPS in games w/o RT(400-450 with RT), runs VR withought an issues. Yeah, the product is great and I use it a lot, but the price is stiff. If at that moment I could find a good 2k OLED monitor, I might go with 4080 just fine.

I’m a enthusiast is really why people like us get the 4090 spent 2k on the white strix and no it’s not to flex it’s simply I wanted I have the money I bought it simple as that my pc build has perky rgb and I can’t stop staring at it that was my dream for my first ever build if I built a pc I wanted to go beyond high end and now it’s here and I’m happy

Makes sense. No one should ever tell you how to spend your money. As longas it makes you happy in life that's what matters. Life's too short anyways

I made a 4080 super build and im just so happy with it man, sure it was expensive around the 3K price tag, but whatever I throw at it eveb with the highest settings on 2K it's super smooth. yeah sometimes I regret purchasing such a powerful system, but it's worth it in the long run.

There is a contradiction in your comment. You are both simultaneously regretful at times with this system but also very happy with it. Which one is it?

@@Stardomplay tbh i’m happy with it cause I can stream and not have any lag or fps issues. But the reason I regretted it also is because of my financial situation and spent too much out of my budget for this build. But you know that was just a financial hit for 2 months, i’m good now.

I have an almost identical set up but with 128Gb of ram for Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous. I need the extra ram for 3D renders.

I like to mod. So it was totally worth it to me. Skyrim is beautiful playing UW 1440p and fully decked out with the best graphics mods. The price does hurt, but it's nice not worrying about settings. Also always up to or over 100 fps is great. My decision was bc the 4090 was so insanely much better than the 4080.

Very relatable. I was running a 2060 super and a r5 3600 16gb ram was running prettly well. Upgraded to a 3090 used for 500 usd and a r7 5700x 200usd but my pc master race soul just begs me to upgrade to a 4090 and 7800x3d/i9. I daily combat my intrusive thoughts about getting it. (I can barely afford it). But as much as i try my mind just beeeegs me to get it and i just know im set off for about 4 years. Personally i live in south america and if i want anything over 200usd i will have to overpay 100 usd for shipping and international taxes while anything below or at 200usd comes tax free, so enthusiast lvl hardware brand new its not worth it for me. At the end of the day my old pc could be running evethything without any hassle.

Same as with the monitors i can get a asus 280 hz 1080p monitor for 200 usd or a QHD 180hz for the same price. Yet my stupid brain BEGS for me to get a 1000 usd oled monitor.

I would say stay with 3090, its such good gpu anyway. And there will always be better things coming like rtx 5000.
