The best thing about this commercial is that AOC gives people hope. If anyone has seen Admiral McCraven - Make your bed UT speech, he says the most important lesson he learned in his life was hope and that is what AOC stands for. She gives hope to working people, ordinary people, everyday people who don't have a lot of $$$, but need hope to get a better life and that's what AOC stands for she's giving hope to people by fighting to uplift their lives and work against the major corporate interests that have ruined peoples' lives.

Talk is cheap. When she had opportunities to do something for the people in her former "zip codes", she turned her back on them! Learn about what she has actually done, or rather NOT done since she was elected. She does little things for people, but then turns her back on big things like medicare for all. She had a chance to force a vote on that, but by then she had sold out to the wealthier "zip codes".

As someone that has made and critiqued political ads for a living, that was a fabulous ad. Regardless of Party or ideological preference, that ad hit the perfect tone and the imagery was perfectly matched to the music with an almost crescendo at the end. Plus, I’m told Alexandria wrote the ad herself. She is going to be a star in D.C. she already is..

Even though you are under voting age do 3 things. 1. Check out if someone in your area is running. Either from Justice Democrats or Brand New Congress. That way you will be ready when you can vote. 2. Spread the word. You might have friends living in areas where candidates is running. The populist candidates has a big disadvantage because they have sworn off corporate money. So just to get the word out is hard - you can help by telling your friends. 3. Volantere. They can always use help so call on family and friends and help your chosen candidate out.

You could live in a cardboard box if you wanted to. You could make your own clothes if you wanted to. Capitalism is OPTIONAL. Go to California and check out all the druggies living on the sidewalk. They aren't forced into capitalism. Regardless, I'd rather be a slave of capitalism instead of a slave to a Communist or socialist government. Go to Canada and ask them how they feel about being a slave to their healthcare. In a country with "free" (should really call it prepaid) healthcare, they have a thriving FOR-CASH health system in the side. Why do you think that is?

I am from Canada living in the USA now with their for profit health care system. I saw my mom live through the Canadian health care system with a heart condition. Her drugs were many and it cost her $6 per prescription. She would have been dead at 70 if she lived in the USA with it. She lived to 82, passed from a stroke that took her 1 month of hospital care to finally die from . No bill sir, no bill because Canada looks after it's people. BTW I don't buy what I don't need, trying to do what little I can to help a world on fire due to climate change and the greed of Capitalism that is raping our natural resources . Food is important, another steel spoon made from china who has poor air quality...not ! We have to change the way we live and make money.

If you are truly interested in understanding Alexandria's (and many others) ideology here is the Wiki definition for Social Democracy: Social democracy is a political, social and economic ideology that supports economic and social interventions to promote social justice within the framework of a liberal democratic polity and capitalist economy. The protocols and norms used to accomplish this involve a commitment to representative and participatory democracy; measures for income redistribution and regulation of the economy in the general interest; and welfare state provisions. Social democracy thus aims to create the conditions for capitalism to lead to greater democratic, egalitarian and solidaristic outcomes. Due to longstanding governance by Social Democratic parties and their influence on socioeconomic policy development in the Nordic countries, in policy circles "social democracy" has become associated with the Nordic model in the latter part of the 20th century. In simple terms it's what most Nordic countries (Sweden, Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Finland etc.) have already successfully implemented. Health Care for all, a living minimum wage, free college and opportunity regardless of income, race or gender, and basic human needs (food, housing etc.) supplied by the state as a baseline for all. That's it. I mean, she's so radical she actually thinks your children have a basic right to healthcare, even if you lose your job. So yeah, some people are scared? EDIT: I should clarify, Fascists HATE this ideology. Fascist or Kleptocratic states (Russia for instance) are designed to widen the economic gap between the masses and the oligarchs in power. They achieve this in a number of ways. Discredit the Free Press, huge tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy achieved by cutting social services to all others and deregulating big business at the expense of the health and safety of those not at the top of the food chain, packing the Congress, 'Doma (Russian)' or Supreme Court with sycophants that will do The Supreme Leader's every bidding, and find a minority to scapegoat for every grievance that will inevitably arise. The Anti-Social Democratic ideology is illustrated quite well by George Orwell's book '1984' if you want to see how this plays out. Or Google some history about 1930's Germany or Italy. So yeah it's up to all of US to decide which side we're on.

Alexandria is not advocating total "socialism". Capitalism and socialism can combine to form something much better for everyone. At present our society is leaning too far on the capitalistic scale, with the workers seeing far less benefit from our economy than the super rich. This must be balanced or there will be a revolution.

She ran a SMART campaign and the incumbent took it for granted that he would win. This is what the Left doesn't get: you have to be smarter and quicker than the Establishment candidates you're running against. Stay to the issues, focus on constituent service and move away from the incendiary rhetoric that may excite the base but not bring anybody else over. That's not to say that you have to give up your core beliefs, but you have to make them relevant to the people who you want to serve and be elected by.

They work to set things up so the work of others flows to them, and the reason you pay a lot of taxes is because they also make sure they pay little or none of their share. Grow up, you won't be rich. YOU WILL NOT BE RICH. Hurts, uh? Unless you already are, in which case it makes sense to spit all that stale propaganda against socialism. The entire campaign all he focused on was Hillary's e-mails and scandals. If the people had their choice Hillary would be our president. Shadow Might - Strawman fallacy. On the contrary, I would despise the further development of an oligarchy or anything like that. My idea of the means towards that goal is just different from yours, I guess. Corporatism/Crony Capitalism has been the biggest accelerator of an eventual formation of an oligarchy if it hasn't been established already. But big government and Corporatism/Crony Capitalism have a symbiotic relationship in which each propels the other. That's why we should work to form policies that empower lower and middle-class individuals who should be able to compete in the same markets. Typically, regulatory schemes and capital requirements price those smaller businesses out. Fundamentally, getting more government involved won't diminish those government-corporatist relationships that hinder the socio-economic mobility of everyday Americans.

To see the history of socialism and say to yourself, I think it's a great idea to try this again, is to ignore the lessons of history. Socialism scares away the most productive people because it removes the incentive to produce. Eventually you'll run out of luxuries, then you'll run low on things that you can live without but which life hard and finally you'll run out of food and water and you'll be left there blaming the rich all over again. It is a retarded system. Come up with a new idea.

I had to leave the USA back in August 2018 because I just couldn't keep up. Working 18 hour days to barely support myself, my family and ailing mother. God forbid if my 2004 jeep liberty broke down or if I came down with the flu. The fear of my kids getting shot at school or at a concert or at the mall or at church. The tears I held back because my kid was being bullied for being Latino and shorter than the other kids. I now live in Europe. Life is different here. Healthcare is free for everyone. FREE! Food is incredibly cheap. My kid hasn't come home saying he's been picked on because of his last name, stature or even the fact of being American. I'm not saying it's perfect here. They have their issues, too. But I don't have to work 18 hour days anymore. On the weekends, I can actually afford taking the family to a near by town full of castles and history and literally eating a banquet. I am actually planning a family vacation to Paris, Rome, Madrid and London. Thoughts like that never even popped into my mind while I was living in America. Trips to Europe were for the rich. Plus who has the time to see 4 European cities? Well, I have a month vacation after my first year of working. I was born and raised in New York. I lived in Florida for 20 years. I love my country. And it broke my heart 2 weeks ago when I asked my son if he preferred living here or in the States, he said here. He's 11 years old. I wish Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had appeared in the spotlight 10 years ago. But she's here now. The people in America need her and people like her. I ran out of hope and I am getting older and more tired. I feel safer here. I can have dinner with my family every night and check my son's homework. Alexandria is right. Life in the USA isn't great for the working class. Every day that goes by just gets more difficult to endure. I'm 53 years old and I don't want to be a burden for my son when I get old. And the sensation of time creeping up quickly while living and working in the USA is noticeable when standing in front of the mirror. Now time has seemed to slow down. I can sleep late on a Sunday. Ironically, I'm not thinking about bills all the time anymore. I don't know if I'll go back to live in the USA. But l can tell the American person who is reading this right now. Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is right. I live in a country where they have applied many of the things that she says and proposes. Life is better. Much better. God bless you all, chose your leaders wisely. She's worth it. I'll vote for her from here.

Your comment has touched me deeply. I am in a very similar position to yours in the US. I have missed so many milestones while my baby was in a daycare 12 hours a day just so I could keep a decent roof over our heads. First words. First steps. Irreplaceable loss. I have made many European friends. They tell me the same things you've said here. That they can actually LIVE life. They can do more than just barely survive. That their standards of living even for their poorest is so much higher than the US. Most importantly though they have opened my eyes to the entire concept of social mobility. There is actually good chance of upward social mobility in their countries. Mine is ranked 36rh. Meaning...my son being born on the poverty line has a better chance of making it to middle class to raise his own children in 36 countries BEFORE the US. I cry sometimes thinking about how life could be. How someone like myself who was in mostly AP and honors courses in high school could actually be able to use that potential to rise my social exonomix status by going to school. I could not only provide a life my son deserves but I could also feel like I'm sincerely contributing to my society...to my country...to my community. Sometimes I Google says of getting a European citizenship. My grandparents were both born and raised in Poland. My mother was born in the us but, if they can trace your lineage and verify it they grant you some type of citizenship. I think about it. Then j think about the sacrifices my family has made doethis countrt. My grandpa fought in ww2 in the Navy. He fought to defend a nation he wasn't born in. A nation he made his home. Then my father fought as a marine in the Vietnam war...they believed in and loved this country. And it breaks my heart in two that now...I want nothing more than to leave it. Part of me feels like I'd be abandoninf something. Disrespecting my grandpa and dad. Please excuse the awful typing my keyboard is a mess. So....your comment hit me hard. I'm so happy for you. I truly am. Go and actually LIVE, instead of barely existing here in the US. Wishing you nothing but happiness!

Jess Feldmann, About your granddad and your father, all I can say is, that was then and now is now. My father also arrived to the states at age of 9. He was an air force pilot and fought in Vietnam. Many people around the world have many misconceptions of the USA and many Americans believe all other countries suck. Everyone is wrong. Americans fail to see that their middle class is disappearing. The At-will employment law grants no job security. I have a Master's Degree in Adult Education. 3.8 GPA. I made sure I was never late. Only called in sick when I was seriously ill. I won all the awards there were to win. I was determined to be the teacher everyone wanted to have and the employee every boss could dream of. I was loyal, I had gained the respect of my peers and my students. All my evaluations were above the school's average. I was the best. I made sure I was. In the end, I was making the same amount of money as when I started. And I was never given the opportunity of growth. Every time there was an opening, the job was given to someone from outside. The very last opening I applied for, my boss' boss was interviewing me. With all my passion and love I have for teaching I know I replied to all his answers flawlessly. At the end of the interview, the guy looked at me in the eye and said, "I'd love to give you the job, but you're the little guy." I stand 5.5. I would have preferred, he'd taken out a knife and stabbed me in the heart. I walked to my car, sat behind the wheel and wept until I was out of tears. I still don't know if I cried so much for have being born a short man or realizing I had just wasted 20 years of my life or for having to have swallowed my pride and not quit on the spot, because I simply couldn't afford it. Not with a mother with a cerebral aneurysm, a wife and a 9 year old son. That's what did it for me. I then knew that in the States, racism was always going to be against me. So, I found another job a month later. I had a family reunion, I took on 2 other jobs at the same time. A year later, I had saved $30.000 bucks and I moved to Spain and opened my own English school. I'm not rolling in money, yet. But the school is already paying the bills and sustaining itself with only 4 months of having opened. I may be mistaken, but when I look into the eyes of the people here, I get the sensation that they're looking back at the professional, the man, the human being. Not the "little guy". Good luck to you. I can't give you any advice as to leave the US or stay. All I can do is tell you my story. And remind you that sometimes, the grass is greener on the other side. Just do a lot of research before you make any decision. Then, one morning when you wake up, you'll know exactly what to do. And try not to let 20 years go by. God bless.

Hey please hear me out, read the whole thing. I am *not* attacking you I am simply stating flaws in your argument/reasons for supporting this person. Ok, I honestly don't believe that your kid was being bullied for being Latino in 2018, you said "My kid hasn't come home saying he's been picked on because of his last name, stature or even the fact of being American." You do realize that kids make fun of each other's names all the time right? Teasing people's names doesn't mean racism. Unless your kid came home and had a video of some kids saying "HAHA UR MEXICAN!!!" then forgive me if I'm skeptical. I'm Mexican, and I love it here, it's the best country on earth. Why? Because I'm free and discrimination is a thing of the past (with extremely minor exceptions). I just proved to you why anecdotal evidence make bad arguments And if you were working 18 hour days and barely able to support your family, maybe you should have considered well I don't know, getting a higher paying job, moving to a cheaper area. And why were you scared of your kids being shot? Are you kidding me? If the crime was that bad, I would get a gun to protect my family. (If it was Chicago I would move out of the state b/c gun control) Ok, sure healthcare is free in Europe. Free doesn't mean quality. And when accounting for population and economy size, the US far outpaces any other country with single-payer. This is because of the private sector. Because finding new treatments and cures is profitable, there is motivation for innovation which is NOT at the expense of the government. Yes healthcare is expensive here. That's because of 3 main things: One, medical schools only graduate a certain amount of doctors. Two, Hospitals are hard to build because they have to meet very high standards set by government. And Three government regulations make competition limited, leaving prices high. Now your point about food being cheap, why do you think that is? Because US companies make deals with European farmers to mass produce food. You're actually commending capitalism while saying we need to abolish it. As for your income, I don't know your occupation or experience but I assume you are not in the same job you were in before or in the same circumstances. When you asked your son if he preferred the US or Europe, did it occur to you that you were in the working class in the states, and (presumably) you aren't now? It's not Capitalism's fault you failed to get a higher paying job or make good financial choices. The policies which this demon supports are those of FAILING economies such as Venezuela. The promises are the same, and it has ALWAYS resulted in failure. I hope you realize Cortez knows little to *nothing* about economics. For example, one of her statements: "Unemployment is low because everyone has 2 jobs." One, that is no where close to how unemployment is measured, and Two, no, not *everyone has two jobs* less than 35% of the workforce does. Sure, free healthcare and college sounds great, but *WHERE ARE THE 20 TRILLION DOLLARS GOING TO COME FROM?!* THAT'S MORE THAN THE GODDAMN GDP OF THE COUNTRY!! If I were you, I wouldn't support false hopes and flat out lies from a person who knows NOTHING about the economy trying to introduce economic policy. And you do realize since you're in Europe, you have not vote in our elections.

The AVG American who actually pays Fed tax which is only 53% www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2012/09/18/who-doesnt-pay-taxes-in-charts/ AVG Americans pay 25% to the fed tax, then social security is 8%, medicare/medicaid is 3%, the AVG state tax is 5%, all that equals out to 41% partner... That ain't including fed gas tax, state gas tax, state sales tax, plane tax, toll tax, county tax, etc I'm sure the AVG hard American is paying close to/over 50% in taxes.... You want em to pay more $$$? Good luck with that I'm an economist and economist Arthur Laffer came up with the Laffer Curve, which shows the flow of human capital from 1 country to another. People start leaving 1 country to another around 50% tax then almost all start leaving at 70% tax en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laffer_curve A case example is Socialist President Hollande who gets $10,000 haircuts for his balding ass www.nytimes.com/2016/07/14/world/europe/hollande-hairdresser-france.html found out about the Laffer Curve the hard way when he started the 75% super tax and the rich and upper middle class left and went to Signapore, Hong Kong and some went to Thailand. President Hollande then dropped that tax rate real quick France's budget went into the shitter real quick more shit was on the ground than on a cattle ranch www.businessinsider.com/france-ended-75-super-tax-2015-1 She wants to raise more taxes on hard working American's good luck with that!

Her absurd plans for healthcare will cost $32 trillion. THAT'S BIGGER THAN THE GDP OF THE US!! Her reality which hates billionaires *requires* them.
