Danny Kay was having a drink in the bar at Dublin Airport, waiting for a connecting flight. The barman trying to be friendly said: ”How do you like Ireland Mr. Kay?" Danny's answer: “Ireland is the arse hole of Europe,” to which the barman replied: "Ah I see, sir, in that case I suppose you're only passing through.”

The guy's just carrying them both around on a tray. He probably dropped them both, spilling both and breaking one. So the pestle vessel would have needed refilling. (And for all we know they filmed this and deleted the scene.)
