And with all the greatest scientists and engineers humanity reverse engineered the covenant tech, and started to build defense fleets and colonies, and explored the starts. 500 years later when the covenant finally finds humanity they find them waiting with plasma and MAC base weapons. Despite a century of cathcing up, having 400 years to improve the Covenant's own tech would likely give humanity the upper hand in the true fight against the covenant. In this timeline however, the Covenant would have their ass handed to them and beg for mercy.

@@name4601 Despite being non-functional, humanity was able to meticulously study the ship's slipspace drive. Lessons learned, it enabled humanity to build their own slipspace drives much earlier, and they were much better than the Shaw-Fujikawa drives. The Human-Covenant War would be very different. In 2397, the Covenant are losing a battle over an assembly forge. A human special forces soldier reads the name of a nearly completed ship, and realized that this ship crashed on Earth over 350 years ago. A causality violation immediately engulfs the facility where the battle was happening, and spreads out through the galaxy. Nothing could stop it. Nothing is left. A million/billion years later, a curious space-faring species wonders what happened to the galaxy with a missing arm.

2:46 in theory: Since the Covenant has existed for roughly 3000 years (until the Great Schism) couldn't the lone CCS still try to contact other Covenant forces? Yes these forces will neither know about Humanity, the discovery (and destruction) of one Halo ring and their tech might be slightly sub par, but it would still allow the CCS to get reinforcements. Additionally the Covenant could use the CCSs database to find out what happened 500 years in the future, giving the location to all the places Regrets fleet visited, including the luminary on Meridian that showed the location of all Halo Rings and the Ark. Additionally the Covenant would gain knowledge about humanity and wipe them out while they can't run away. In this scenario the Covenant just wins since the Cruiser will at least report to it's ministry about it's findings, alerting the entire Covenant sooner or later, and the Cruisers commander might become a Supreme Commander since he essentially discovered not one but all Halo rings (and is the only one present to get praised for it). Edit: On the other hand the Cruiser not communicating with the 2023 Covenant made the video more interesting since one CCS vs 2023 Earth is far more interesting/evenly matched than 2023 Earth vs one CCS and possibly the 2023 Covenant since it can end either way; It also reminds me of Independence Day (which I had funnily enough rewatched today)

it was specified that its slipspace drive was rendered inoperable by the time-travel so its only way to contact the covenant would have been via sending the ship their way at sublight with recorded messages and that would have taken way too long to be any form of usefull.
@MichaelJones-wj4mo
@MichaelJones-wj4mo 2 жыл бұрын
As the 1st reply states, but I was also interested in this. You know they would send sub-light communications, but let’s assume all long-range communications were disabled. As they are back in time, the covenant wouldn’t have any knowledge of a lost vessel and would not send rescue missions. You could assume that the shipmaster has a choice- attempt to overwhelm humanity to access the repairs necessary to repair their sub space drives, or to literally sacrifice their lives to send the ship back to covenant space with all necessary information, but a hundred or two hundred years later. An arrogant elite that has been indoctrinated about the evil of humanity against the covenant could very easily underestimate their clearly low-tech foes and assume they could solve the human problem and their sub space problem in one go. Just one way to explain the decision to invade rather than retreat
@snperkiller1054
@snperkiller1054 2 жыл бұрын
Covenant FTL coms rely on their subspace drive (if they have them at all, if i recall correctly only a few ships have those) so their only options were: 1 kill humans and hope they can find forerunner artifact than enable them to get back to the covenant, 2 try to enlighten humanity instead and then look for the artifacts, 3 go back to covie at sublight BUT knowing the battle of earth is only 500 years in the future, their ship would not arrive in covenant space in time since they distance to travel is thousands of lightyears, and that's assuming the ship has enough fuel and dont hit anything on the way.

Sooo late in my response lol but; If we take this scenario forward into the beginning of the Halo timeline humanity would be much more well prepared to face the covenant than we were in the original timeline. The lore UNSC was made mostly for anti piracy and small scale space conflict between near peer forces (imagine B.R.I.C.S In space) and in this imagined timeline we would have had 500+ years to reverse engineer covenant tech rather than trying to do it while at war. In this imagined timeline we would absolutely rake the covenant over the coals with all of humanity preparing for the covenant very very early.

My favorite thing about Halo is how even 500 years in the future we are still using ammunition like 7.52x51/308. in the DMR/AR, 6.5 in the Commando, 10mm in the Sidekick, 50. AE in the Magnum, 8 and 12 gauge in the OG shotgun and the bulldog, 14.5mm in the sniper rifle, 45. in the M10 SMG, and so much more. That alone means we could still absolutely lay down some Covenant even in our time. It would definitely still be hellacious for them to fight against.

@Nightshade31401
@Nightshade31401 2 жыл бұрын
@@beserker9890 Advanced firing systems? Like what? Most of the weapons are regular gas operated, rotating bolt, short stroke, etc weapons. The rounds themselves are almost identical to real world ammo just with a different designation. Like the AR/DMR fires "M118" FMJ AP 7.62x51 which does exist but it's the wrong ammo designation as M118 is not AP. The cartridge in the real world M61 7.62x51. It's also stated to have been made in the mid 20th century. There really isn't anything that makes the weapons unique aside from the fact they're bullpups. The BR and OG SMG fire somewhat unique rounds. The SMG ammo (5mm caseless) is essentially 4.73x33mm caseless only it's a bit smaller and was made for the HK G11. The BR fires 9.5x40mm which is basicslly just the real life .458 Socom sized down to a .375 Socom. Funnily enough, they share the same dimensions so realistically...they all exist in the real world but have different names!
@Destroyer_V0
@Destroyer_V0 2 жыл бұрын
@@beserker9890 Firing systems... no? Is a trigger, you pull it, gun spits lead. An over complicated trigger mechanisim is less reliable. Advanced targeting? Sure, the marines tend to have huds to help them aim their weapons, but nowhere near to the extent of chief. A regular human soldier today would be just as capable of using their weapons at range as a marine in halo, due to the relative lack of improvement in personal weapons tech in halo during the human covenant war beyond efficiency tweaks for the war they were fighting previously... an insurgency.

Son, you invaded earth too early, now you gonna eat hot lead when we mount these bad boys on EVERYTHING, that can carry them. Even those prototype exosuits we've been testin usin your fancy plasma batteries, to make em man portable. And if that don't work, we can always resort to the geneva checklist. It's more implied unlike the necromorphs where there's various data entries, timeframes and listening to characters explain events etc etc. Of course you got the early human side of halo, but they aren't exactly comparable given the tech levels but it does give insight how they began. Question is... Since the Covenant say that Humanity deserves extinction due to the fact that they had, according to the Prophets, destroyed holy artifacts... If the Battlecruiser realizes it's back in time, they might see the opportunity to steer Humanity off such a course. Naturally, this would depend on the Shipmaster, but seeing as there were some Elites in the Covenant who had started to respect Humans, it's not out of the question... I would like thoughts on this, though.
@B1-997
@B1-997 2 жыл бұрын
i think even if the shipmaster wanted to "course correct" young humanity the prophets would see it as an act of heresy to try to bring humanity into the covenant or even deal with them peacefully if found out somehow.

@@B1-997 All depends on if there were any prophets on board at all. They are quite rare on covenant ships after all. And if there weren't... well. Alternate scenarios where the covenant doesn't have religiously devoted zealots at the head of the ship are not impossible. Again, not like the shipmaster can phone the prophet of regret, who's task force he is supposed to be a part of.

Great video man! I know I'm late to this video but i just found it and I loved it. Some people in the comments seem to wonder why the Covenant attacked the US first? I think the answer is that, while everyone on Earth were speculating about the ship, the ship was also hacking all of Earth's systems and determined that the US was the most dangerous region of Earth for them for having the most dangerous military, so they should probably get rid of them first so they won't be able to help anyone. Another thing I noticed in the comments is the fact that many people think that, once the Covenant was defeated, the 21st century Earth would be able to reverse engineer the ship to give humans interstellar travel, but I highly doubt that would happen or at least it would take centuries. Remember that Covenant technology is very complex and that the UNSC were having a lot of problems to get any information out of all the samples they got through the war, so modern people with modern technology would have even more problems to get anything from the wrecked ship. Also, it seem like Earth wasn't left in the best conditions after the ship was defeated, it seems like they got a hard century to even grow enough crops for people to eat, they may have been left without the necessary resources to research the ship. With this I'm not saying thay we wouldn't be able to make some advances with the rests of the ship, but it would take very long and it wouldn't be as easy as movies like Independence Day depicts it.
@ThatGuy-a48
@ThatGuy-a48 Жыл бұрын
Well if it sticks to the halo timeline they got 500 years to reverse engineer it so more than enough ( especially since the UNSC fell into stagnation after the 22nd century until the 25th no reason to believe that would happen this time )

That final stand reminded me of EDF2017’s final battle. Basically a technologically superior alien species begun an indiscriminate attack on earth worldwide with giant bugs, gunships, transport carriers and an enemy mothership. A multinational coalition dubbed the Earth Defense Force (EDF) was sent out to combat these aliens. Despite the EDF being the best the world had they were outmatched. For every win you had, there were 10 lost battles. The war lasted a year. Contact with North america, south america, europe, and the middle east was all lost. The forces in Asia were all that was left continuing to fight back. A final desperate hail mary mission was carried to bring this alien mothership down. This was the order given as a last ditch effort to win “The mothership has begun its attack. The enemy is extremely powerful and the earth will be destroyed if they are not stopped. We have only one hope, we must destroy their mothership. That is the only way we can save humanity. However the EDF has been left weak, and the enemy has the atvantage. No matter the circumstances, we have to fight! We will never let the enemy see the EDF retreat from battle! We will focus all our remaining forces on the mothership and bring it down! Troops, prepare for battle!” Most of the world had been reduced for rubble, the EDF had practically been put out of commission, but the surviving armies figured that if they were gonna die they’d rather go down fighting. It was in this last ditch effort that humanity shot down the mothership against all odds. The surviving aliens were purged and humanity won. They began reconstruction for the next 7 years, creating new technology and weaponry using reversed engineer alien technology. In 2025 The next invasion begins. This is where Earth Defense Force 4.1 begins. I highly recommend these games if you like a bombastic action arcadey shooter

A single Covenant ship would destroy humanity. Alien tech should never be seen as limiting to the human ideas. Plasma in halo doesn't function like the plasma we know of it. There even a chance that it isn't even plasma. The games call it that, but the lore also doesn't know how the needier works. it's like the lore is written in game from a human, with their knowledge on the matter and they are filling in the blanks. So, what if it's not really plasma, but something unknown to humanity? Or maybe it simply way more advanced tech that finds a way around the limits that we know of it. After all, humanity doesn't know everything. There also many plot holes in your understanding Covenant tech that you overlooked. For one how Covenant shields and weapons work. The whole shields don't drop, just a small section that where the weapons fire. And they are brough right back up when not firing. So, getting a nuke in there, within the short time between each shot is unlikely. And the hull of the ship has been able to absorb long range nuclear blast from way more powerful nukes then we have. Maybe a direct blow will work, but that if someone is lucky enough to hit a small target like that, and within a small-time frame. Plus, the weapon they use to destroy jets will be even smaller target. it wouldn't be the main glassing beam. (Which even if it was, it would blind any pilot who sees it fire grudging by you dissipation of the first attack.) If humanity was losing with more advanced tech and multiple years and planets to combat the Covenant, then a single planet, and lesser tech humanity doesn't stand a chance. It is basically modern-day US military arriving on an island with the local population is still using wooden spears. Honestly, this seems more of a human power fantasy then what would realistically happen. Also Slipspace doesn't time travel. So, a single Covenant going back in time never would be possible. If you change the tech to fit your means, then same can be side with tactics they use. Glass the oceans, and ignore the city's is all they need to do to kill all life on earth.
