I've had both the Miami and Tampa Cuban. You have to hot press them. Both the Miami and Tampa Cubans are really good. I grew up here, 65 years, I've lived in both places. A real Cuban sandwich is soooo nice. They are not hard to make yourself. Sliced, seasoned mojo pork, some sliced ham, swiss cheese dill pickle, mayo and mustard. Yes toast the bun and then hot press it all. Kent does this right! Oh, more thing. Get some good Cuban bread. Good luck finding that past Miami and Tampa Bay. Tampa has some good Cuban bread.

Kent I do not know about where you and everyone else live but here in South Florida you can get Cuban bread in any supermarket, it is wherever they keep the Italian and French bread and it really adds a lot to the sandwich, a crisp thin crust and the inside very airy and soft. I would also suggest wrapping the sandwich in tinfoil instead of the brick, that would probably cut down on the burned bread and also let the inside steam and keep moisture in.

Have heard of the Cuban, but have never tried one, but now I am inspired! Garlic and citrus is impossible to think what it might taste like... Off topic here, but pulled pork absorbs BBQ sauce whether Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Kansas City, or St. Louis, style, pulled pork soaks it up better, however, some very popular places will slice it thin, pile it on bread and toast it and that is great too, maybe a Cuban BBQ.

That looks darn tasty. In my travels with the military, never been to Cuba, have had Cuban sammies here in the states. I think yours is the best by far.

The first Cuban Sandwich I ever had was when I lived on Grand Cayman back in the 90s and instantly became a fan. Went to Miami a few times and tried a few there and then started making my own. This looks as good as any I've ever had. And the brick sure beats pressing it down with a 'spatchler'. Thanks!

The plancha/sandwich press/panini press is another way to do it.
