Might be a good idea to put padding on the metal hole, it sounded like salem was hitting the gate with her knees when she jumped through it. It's crazy how she's already two years old, time flies on this channel!

you might want to cover both sides of the fence around the hole so she can more easily differentiate which one to go through. I'd also be worried about her seeing a coyote and in her excitement getting a leg snagged cause it went in one of the other holes below. that said, this is such a cool technique and I'm excited to see if Salem can successfully chase off coyotes!

I was about to say the same. Make the hole more visible to her by lining the hole with planks or pool noodles from the outside to prevent accidents.Or even make the whole panel covered with something excluding the hole. If she gets excited and tries to jump trought the wrong hole by accident she could snap a teeth, break a leg or injure herself in any other way.

Love the jump gate idea. One suggestion try painting the opening for Salem in a bright colour to make it more easily distinguishable from the surrounding fence would help her locate it and jump through faster.

It might be worth reinforcing the gate with the opening in the bars for Salem so it makes a little less noise when she jumps through, the rattle sound might alert a coyote as she gives chase. It might also be nicer to jump through for Salem if you wrap some material or something around the opening so its a little softer as she goes through, a friend of mine made her opening a little wider than recommended and used then a pool noodle on the edges which also helped reduce a bit of noise, it also shows the dog very clearly where to jump through. Just some ideas to think about, Salem seems like she'll make a good guard dog for the animals

Use outdoors white epoxy paint to indicate opening. Spray ONLY the house side so the goats will not see it and realize there is an opening there. Salem's eyesight will be helped with the white vs steel colored fence. On the pasture side of fence only spray paint the top bar above the opening. This way the dog will interpret the hole while the goats will not figure it out.

You guys should try some slim pool noodles on the bottom part of the whole. That way when she jumps threw she cant hurt herself if she bangs a paw or her knees. We did something similar on my birth moms farm and it really helped the dogs be more confident going threw.

You guys should cover the area she is jumping through with plywood on both sides of the fence to prevent her for from getting caught. We don't want another broken leg like tilly. It also helps her see the opening better.

2y to confront…. My new guardian pup is under a year and controls my open property and has alone since around 7 months old when he was large enough. His presence alone makes a difference. I lost a few birds before him but now all my pets are safe. Glad you got a guardian it makes all the difference.

Well by the time you read this she’ll probably have mastered the entrance to the pasture but I would’ve recommended putting up that piece of plywood or cardboard you used for the initial training that way it kind of helped her to hone in on that shape but she’s a smart pooch so she’ll learn quick

The breadcrust sounded nice and crunchy and the inside looked beautiful fluffy. The bread I like most is a mixed bread a mix between wheat and (ger) Roggen. A good sourdough bread

Just a little suggestion that may help Salem pinpoint the opening, maybe try covering the surrounding squares of the fence so she can learn where the hole is. Also if she's going to eventually live outside I would suggest an inground dog house. Underground is cooler than the surface and you can always add straw or blankets 😉
