This lullaby was composed by James Scott Skinner in 1888 with lyrics by Alexander Hastings. It is said that Skinner was inspired to write the song whilst in Forres, Scotland, where he witnessed a mother bent over a cradle, caring for her sick child. Although originally written as a song, this beautiful lullaby can often be heard today played as an instrumental air.
This arrangement can be found in my book "Celtic Music for Free-Bass Accordion", which provides you with original arrangements of 11 popular songs and slow airs from Ireland and Scotland, as well as four of my own compositions. Some arrangements solely feature the free-bass system while others combine both free-bass and Stradella bass. This gives the player more options for varying the sound and developing the arrangement. The book also includes background stories for each piece as well as tips and tricks on Celtic ornamentation and extended chords. Pack your accordion and journey across the Celtic Isles with this book as your guide 🪗📖
