Well, Too much to say so I’ll keep it short, Poison Ivy Rorschach ( Kristy Marlana Wallace) was why I started guitar, no other reason. In an interview she said she started learning Link Wray tunes. So I bought an electric guitar and my first song I learned was Rumble by Link Wray and the second song was Fever by The Cramps. I seen The Cramps twice, freaking wild times. Stay Sick!
@AsianTheDomination3 жыл бұрын
my first full song was rumble too. i played it on acoustic since it was all i had. didnt live early enough to see the cramps though

Poison Ivy did indeed play a 6120 later on, but prior to 1981 all her parts were recorded with a 1969 Ampeg Dan Armstrong Plexi, in transparent Lucite finish. It was stolen, along with all of their other equipment, by Bryan Gregory when he left the band.

Great lesson, Doing more Cramps song would be great. Ultra Twist would be great I almost bought a 6120 but heard they had some feed back....is the feed problem that bad or is just the situation your in maybe? Thank you.
@DEATHRAYCAT3 жыл бұрын
If you are playing really really really loud - like metal loud with huge stacks and your stood close to the speakers, you might have a lot of feedback but I like to think I play fairly loud and it’s never been a problem, and when it’s feeding back, it’s good feedback. There are lots of different choices for bracing in the hollow bodies such as tone posts or trestles, these are less likely to feed back than a fully hollow body with no bracing. There’s also the option of the centre block models. Cheers! 🍻

Can you achieve the Cramps sound just with a Gretsch or are particular amps/pedals required? I'm eyeing of a Streamliner Centre Block Jnr P90 purely to tinker around with Cramps / Rockabilly sounds. Would appreciate any advice! Thanks and love your channel :)
@DEATHRAYCAT2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Kate! That’s a good question, and you could get a bunch of different answers from different people. Personally I think you could get a Cramps-y sound with a bunch of different guitars. Some might argue that a lot of the sound comes from Poison Ivys fully hollow 6120, and the pickups on there. I think she had filtertrons. The P90s will have a different sound, but I’m sure you would still be able to get some good twang out of them. Also with it being a centre block, this would give it a different vibe as well. But still closer than you would get with a fully solid guitar. It’s worth noting that loads of old rockabilly guitarists would have used guitars other than hollow Gretschs! For amps I think Ivy used fender, with a lot of reverb. The spring reverb on the amps is quite a big sound. But you can get pedals to emulate this. A little bit of slapback would be good, she also used tremolo on some of the recordings and what sounds like fuzz. Those streamliners look great though I would love to try one myself! Let us know how you get on and what you do!
