I personally think they knew she was high above them and they valued friendship too much to lose that. When you know someone special like Dolores you prefer half of them over none of them. I had a friend like her and that's exactly how I felt, I knew there had to be someone on her level that she will meet one day and so I settled for the friendzone as that was still a lot better than nothing. I think in videos where they were single you can see that they like her and then in later videos after they're married her bandmates have a protective look on their faces like "you better not hurt Dolores."

They were all professionals... and very close friends. In the early days, when they were struggling financially, doing gig after gig at colleges and bars in London, the van they had was so small, she actually had to lay across their laps when they all fell asleep.

The fact that she didn't have makeup but still liked jewelry and fashion shows she was a complimentary balance between a Tom boy and a girly girl. She may have been a free spirit and a pixie but she kept her femininity and her loving heart. She liked riding a quad but she also liked painting. She was complex, not easily figured out, a truly fascinating person to learn about and to learn from.

Dolores' voice was haunting and beautiful but also distinctive because it straddled the line between being dramatic and hideous. Her vocal tics wouldn't work on most other singers and would sound like affected caterwauling but on her worked to great effect and became her trademark. She knew she didn't have a strong voice so she stylized it and created something so unique that it will be remembered as long as people listen to recorded music.
