I was fortunate enough to be way ahead of this company. We used VHO Black light bulbs running off of Icecap 660. Had to run them in digital timers because they ran hot and burned Out easy. I was one of the original importers of very hard to get corals. We had Micromussa, acan lords from an area near PNG. Technically Aussie stuff. I got the first 30 large “Aussie” Acan lordhowensis colonies shipped to the east coast. Spider Sponges, Acan Bowerbanki, Orange Torch Corlas…. We paid $18k landed. Ultra A grade….. I had a business partner that had some issues that I learned the hard way…he wasn’t doing well. We were in the process of opening a store. We had a successful service company and it was growing and naturally the store was next.. We had an install appointment at 10am one morning. We had a large coral quarantine syst with a dedicated fish system as well. I believed to keep corals and fish for at least a month before we sold anything… too many people sell sick and dying shit…. I arrived to pick him up at 9am and he was cold asleep. He seemed out of it and I had to rustle him to get him going… While he got ready I went to the attached garage which was set up For the corals and fish and when I opened the door….. I almost passed out. The system with approximately 20 football sized pieces of acan Was overflowing. We had a rack system with 10 x 40gallon longs with T5s and they all were overflowing onto The floor. There was a floor drain and it was clogging up. I got there in time not to flood The rest of the facility. He got lazy and when feeding the corals the night before he failed to Adjust the timer osomlator… it wasn’t working so he put the fresh water RO water line into the sump. He disconnected it from the float switches that cut off the Kani Ani system we used. The system needed about 3 gallons of water but it was the weekend and he didn’t fix The osmolator on Friday… he claimed to have checked on them all weekend…. Well, with a kani ani running with not shutoff within 30 min he flooded the large Sump which overflowed, the sump Got saturated with fresh water killing the corals, A few critters that helped with algae… and welp… the flesh from the corals Peeled off and clogged The overflows….. The salinity crashed and everything died…. To watch 70% of the first and most amazing corals imported into the USA die… die becuase if a mistake made… not even the rookies Do This and he had experience. He was lazy and I found out a month later he had major issues that kept him “out of It” and selling thjngs to stay that way. He came in the garage and I was literally crying. Not all over The cost. It was our claim to fame. I worked long and hard to gain the trust of a supplier and promised them $10-$20k a month in corals (the SPS were amazing too) and to do this… they pulled Strings for us and look what happened! I had 8 colonies sat aside For a few top level reefers who were on our vip list that thankfully survived. We made some money but barely broke even with that shipment when we could have made $60k. That money was going to pay for the new corals Systems, an AC unit for the shoppe… it ended up paying for a lawyer and I progressed for a few years alone. He eventually got Geo and is not involved with fish and corals. Neither am I… I dislike the industry. I felt that the wholesalers turned on us by selling to reef clubs which did group buys to avoid shopping at retail stores. I caught people in my trash looking at my boxes (still have video). It got nasty. When everyone started having all the same stuff and it started looking like Avatar.. I lost my passion. I still stay tuned with places like WWC who Do Thjngs the right way. I had some Los Angeles contacts and was invited to the back room of a store in Orange County. They had 100 colonies of pastel marbled true Japanese Micromussa… it was imported with a Story.. I Had never seen it and still to this day have not seen it. The heads looked like Small zoathinds but puffy like Acan…. They were imported in the belly of Large fish from Japan. Got through customs And were going to a facility to be farmed….. that same place had over 200 large Cynaria (don’t know If still called) large Meat Coral was the common name. They had an agreement to pay top dollar to get 1st crack at A few of the wholesalers by greasing palms… Those Micromussa were stunning. I beleive back then I had to fly to LA once a month to get I’m good with the importers. Transhippers would Cherry pick The repacks so I stopped using them when I started getting all brown corals… Sorry for the spelling.. just had surgery and I’m tired and recovering.

Wonder if WWC does work with veterans? I know I was suggested to get into a hobby that was fun but challenging and so I have gotten into salt water tanks. It has been great and frustrating at the same time

What light would you say is best? Radion Xr15 Gen 5 vs Red Sea LED 90 Thanks
@WorldWideCorals2 жыл бұрын
We’d recommend the xr15! Radions are versatile! You can place them on a 10 gallon tank.. or 4 feet above a 1200g tank!
