I never understood the point of censorship. If you want to make it more "KZbin friendly", curse less in the recording. It feels a little ridiculous when Pete is talking about taking drugs and you censor "shit".

I hate silencing my own speech. I stand against it conceptually. I have always hoped that when I ask people to help me that they listen and respect my opinion since this show is my own creation. I remember in the past operating businesses that eventually felt like cages of my own creation. I would hope that this organization I'm building here does not eventually end up feeling as such. Long term that would be quite bad for the show. Much worse so than a few 'fucks'

I wasn't really a fan of the frequent zooms, tight-zoom screen movements, and focus changes on this one. I'm normally supportive of editing because I *like* making a long game accessible by fast-forwarding through fluff... it helps me understand the game better in less time. On the other hand, when the focus zooms in tightly on Pete, or tightly on his charging troops (SO zoomed in! Hostile to people watching on TV/console/PC), it's jarring and makes it harder to tell what's going on. In the bits where you really want to zoom for drama, perhaps zooming a little less strongly, and just into a "theatre of war" where you can zoom in once, watch the attacks, and zoom out once would be better. For me, most of the most dramatic moments in this game were spoiled by editing that got in the way 😢

Hey Pete, I've been a fan for a while now and I've always loved your videos. As someone who reached Grandmaster by only playing Automatch I'd say I'm well versed in the psychology of 3 player classic fixed Risk. If you're unfamiliar, Automatch is for the most part a 4 player classic fixed game with similar settings to yours. However, given the starting positions, many people bot out, suicide or just straight up die at the very start of the game and it quickly becomes a 3 player game. In these scenarios the board generally stabilises into a stalemate as you see in all other games. I know you're familiar with the kingmaker and I have to say that is the key to 3 player Risk. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe your psychology in Risk is heavily influenced by troop count, troop lead and position on the board. I think this comes from your years in playing progressive and it is absolutely essential to the strategies in Risk. However in the 3 player endgame of classic risked, something far more important than troops is the psychology of the players in the game. I've often heard you say that in certain situations, if the board state stays the same, each player will end in a certain position. For example if you're in a 3 player endgame with red, green and blue with you being blue. Red occupies Europe, Green occupies South America with an exterior in Asia and you occupy Africa and Australia you might say "In this situation, Red and I get first and second, Green gets third." While definitely true and a correct line of thinking, the reality of things is that most players aren't thinking about the game in this way. They're thinking about who antagonised them when, who was friendly to them and who got in their way. Also, an interesting thing to note is that going into a three person end game in very definitely 3rd place does not necessarily place you 3rd. Because of the psychology behind Risk, at a troop deficit you're no longer considered a risk and the likelihood that 1st hits 2nd hard enough for you to recover is quite high. I believe that it isn't so much about mastering the three player endgame as it is mastering each individual situation, knowing when to back down your troops, knowing when to make kills on antagonistic players, knowing when to give up bonuses, even giving up cards at times to avoid hitting 1s that could slowly potentially build resentment. It's an interesting game and I love it. Hope this helped. Thanks Pete.

Yep all true. The three player scenario is a weakpoint in my game I'm still looking to shore up
@ditto4061 Жыл бұрын
@@TheKillPeteStrategy You're a very skilled Risk player and I love your attitude towards improving yourself in all aspects. I especially felt it when you mentioned that 1v1s seemed to have a level cap and that there isn't much a skilled player can do to breach that. I do have to say you definitely have the mindset of a Fixed player when you're playing Fixed which is actually flawed in a lot of cases. In this game you got broken multiple times and went for the double suicide which isn't necessarily incorrect. Had Pink not blocked you it was actually not a suicide but strategically taking out your only antagonistic player and going into the three player weak but friendly to the other two. On the other hand, you were strong enough that even without a bonus for a few turns you would've been fine to continue, if you'd stacked and reshored your borders you could've been in an equally advantageous position. That being said I think the "suicide" was actually fine, love your work and keep it up!

I love your videos pete, they’re truly entertaining and you’re an awesome person before being a very good risk player. I wanted to ask a thing: at minute 20:04, you decided to try to take both europe and africa because there were serious possibilities to keep them up to your next turn, gaining an huge advantage. Don’t you think instead it could have been better to just take a random territory and to stack everything in iceland? I’ll explain my line of thought: this is a 4 players game, you are the strongest on the board with 58 troops and a set of 10, the second sits in australia with 49 and 3 cards, the third and fourth are equal along the 20s, fighting each other for no reason. It’s safe to say your biggest enemy is purple, your goal is to keep your advantage or even increase it, your main threat is that they all unite against you. You maybe could have managed to keep 2 continents for some turns, but i suspect this would have inevitably been a good “casus belli” to make the other 3 decide to team up against you. If you just took a territory and put everything in iceland, you could have easily: - had enough troops to knock out the third and fourth next turn for a total of 6 cards (even tho yellow then decided not to attack), with yours you would have had 7 cards. - let’s say you would have lost something like 70% of their total troops, so 70% of 40 = 28 troops. 7 cards mean on average luck 2 sets of a total of 14 troops, so you globally would have lost 14 troops to knock out 2 opponents, and you would have remained with equal or in worst scenario a little less troops than purple, but differently from him, 4 continents, a ton of territories, and he couldn’t even attack them easily because his stack is stuck (lol) in siam. The only thing i am doubtful about is that putting everything in iceland clearly makes the others understand your plan, so even tho they can’t really damage you in any meaningful way it still can be annoying. The best scenario would have been stacking everything in ukraine/north africa to be more “shady”, but the first means that unless someone attacks you in asia (unlikely), you have to pass through india/china, and it would free the purple troops, while stacking on the second idk if it gives you enough firepower to knock them out entirely next turn, even tho now that i think about it maybe it could have been possible with europe defended and its bonus kept. I would be glad to know your opinion!

The correct move for a purple would have been moving into the vacant Africa to also gain a +5 and then worked with Pete to snuff out Yellow and Magenta. Breaking both bonuses when Pete tried the greedy 4 point guard for Europe and Africa was fine. Not taking Africa when people moved into Europe was stupid.

Yeah man, the trash talk was too much imo. Call out the bad plays by all means, it's the educational aspect to this channel after all. But there's no need to go on about "playing like a bitch" and "sucking your dick" to an opponent in a casual any-rank game, he was literally a beginner trying his best. I know growing the game is very important to you - in fact, I only started playing the game because of your excellent content, and I'd say there's thousands of others in the same boat. If I ever came to your channel and heard you talk about me in that way, it would be a real punch in the gut. Sorry to rant, and I genuinely do love your work 99% of the time. Great point - I feel speaking about newer players in such a disrespectful way also breeds a toxicity among fans that I haven't seen on the other Risk channels I watch. There are clearly a bunch of comments in the stream and KZbin that defend and perpetuate this behaviour. It's jarring to see the dichotomy of someone saying each and all are welcome to his tournaments, from complete beginners to GMs and also tear down players that may have even gotten into Risk because of him when they attack him in the game or make a less-than-ideal move.

With the risk of getting downvotes: I have been watching for a long time now and I have to be honest, I am not a fan of the new editing. It feels overworked and forced. I am guessing the KZbin algorithm loves them, but I don't. These edits feel very out of character for Pete too. I am not watching Pete, or Risk for that matter, for the cool animations, the pan and zooms, I watch for the gameplay and the fun and interesting dialogue. The editing takes away from that, it does not add anything for me.
