As someone who has sold cars for the last five years i can attest the the Nissan Altima is the official car of shit credit. Doesn’t matter how bad you’re score is, how sketchy your income is, the fact your down payment is on a credit card. If there is any car we can get you approved on its the fucked up Nissan Altima that has been sitting on the lot for three months. “That scratch” dont worry you’ll add more to cover it. “Fucked up bumper” you’re probably going to be in an accident next week anyway.

Nissan Altimas are the most affordable mid-size sedan. Very cheaply made but they have a pseudo-premium appearance that makes their owners feel like they're driving a Rolls Royce. I used to be a car salesman and the people with really bad credit scores, criminal records, etc. could only afford Hyandai Elantras or any Nissan sedan we had on the lot, and they'd usually pick the Altima. This is why so many people who drive them are so violent and don't care.

Had a 09 altima coupe 2.5s w/ cvt. My g-ma went to pick it up for me because I had to work the weekend. Hit a coyote, so it was in the body shop for a week. Got it back and found out it was title washed from goergia to Tennessee, had been tboned hard and sketchy work done before the accident. I was driving late one night and took out a rabbit which ruined the front bumper and windshield washer reservoir. My then GF was driving it about 3 months later and took out a cat with took out the radiator. Awful radiator replacement done in a weekend, will never do again. Then she was driving and took out a deer. I cut my losses and sold it for scrap. All altimas are cursed, and the altima itself is a curse upon its owner.

My Ford Focus two-door hatch was rear-ended by a young kid in an Altima while I was sitting at a red light in broad daylight. My car was totaled because he hit me doing about 45 MPH, it pushed me through the intersection and caused me to t-bone an Acura MDX. I had just turbo'd and tuned it about two months prior along with a built suspension and poly motor mounts. I bought the car back from the insurance company and transferred all the salvageable aftermarket goodies to an '07 four-door. Couldn't find another hatch. I hate four doors but its all I could find in such short notice with a 5-speed. Could be worse I guess. That kid in the Altima was actually accelerating when he hit me. To be fair, it was a nice two-door Altima and he had lowering springs on it with decent wheels and an intake.

This isnt a joke or internet Irony.The Altima IS cursed. - My sister owned one and the car literally puked up it's engine during a drive through a rain storm - My previous employer's gf had one as a rental and the radiator failed and the car started smoking. - My overnight manager purchased the most recent model and after the third day of owning it, she hit a tire that was laying on the highway merging ramp and destroyed her front bumper and side skirts. - I was extremely paranoid riding my motorbike at night because, like clockwork,NIssan Altimas would ALWAYS ignore the stop signs and shoot out across the main road.

I have an Altima story: Way back in 2011 I had a 2010 Camaro SS 6 speed. There was an Altima behind me tail gating on a public street, even though I was already going about 10 miles over the speed limit. When we got to a red light, the Altima pulled into the right turning lane, but waited. So I guess when the light turned green, his plans were to burn rubber in his Altima piece of crap and go around me. Once the green light, it wasn't even close. When we got to the next red light, there were approx. 7 or 8 cars in front of me. This idiot stops behind me, starts flipping me off. I start laughing. And like a baby pulling a tantrum, decides to go on the opposite lane, goes around all 8 cars in front of me (luckily there were no cars on the opposing lane) and make a right turn on a busy blvd. And by the grace of God, thankfully there was a cop car at the red light. I really wish I had a dash cam back then.

My first and only accident involved an Altima. I was driving maybe 15mph down a road with an Altima in front of me and this girl takes a right turn into a little culdesac type thing right in front of this small shopping center and apparently realizes she made a wrong turn, so she immediately cuts back out into the main road right into my passenger side. I did a fucking 180 and the first thing I notice after I stopped skidding is I can see daylight through my doorcard. I immediately pulled into a nearby parking space and get out to discover that her bumper bar and valence are sticking out of my front passenger door and the speaker has been ejected into the back seat. She parks on my left and calls her dad. I remember her sitting there on the curb while we were waiting for the police to arrive and that whole time it didn't even occur to her to wonder what the fuck happened to the front half of her car, which is at this point, hanging out of MY CAR, until me and her dad started yanking it out of my door so I could drive it to the warehouse. This story hardly makes sense without dashcam footage and pictures which I do have and am considering getting access to that Discord because I think it's worth sharing. People hear a stereotype and love to repeat it because it sounds good. An Altima is a simple, affordable, easy to own/operate, comfortable, stylish, efficient, reliable vehicle. I bought mine with perfect credit.
@mvc21772 жыл бұрын
@@travelseatsyellowlab Reliable …..eh no. Nissan isn’t reliable. You either bought a new Nissan or low mileage one. For the same money, you could have bought an accord or Camry. Heck I would rather buy a high mileage Honda or Toyota than a new Nissan.
@travelseatsyellowlab2 жыл бұрын
@@mvc2177 your experience and mine are clearly not the same. It's not a debate. My car is meticulously maintained and hasn't had a single problem. As far as the Honda goes, my friend has a similar Accord and it's the least comfortable riding car I've been in during a long road trip. It is cramped, the seats are hard as a brick. I couldn't see the appeal with the comparable Toyota, so the only ones I would've considered are the Avalon and 4Runner.
@ViolentMLG2 жыл бұрын
@@travelseatsyellowlab Unfortunately for you, its not a debate, because you're wrong. Nissan CVT's are known for being unreliable. Part of the reason is the belt getting stressed under high RPM from a stop, its why Toyota built a first gear into their CVT, another reason being overheating, dirty fluid, etc. The Trans CAN be at-least average if you manage to do transmission fluid changes once every year or two. Some get luckier than others, some way worse luck. You can hear stories of people replacing 4+ transmissions in 6 years, while others went 200K on a transmission with 0 changes. Driving habits also play a part. There were tons of lawsuits and Nissan had to extend the warranty. Obviously, Nissan has to offer more car for then money, and sub-prime lending, due to their reputation being in the gutter, so what you perceive as a 'superior' product is them price-cutting because they have to. They're just lucky ignorant people like you exist to help further the brand.

Alright dudes a serious explanation on “Altima energy” by an Altima driver: the cars are accessible and decent. Thats it. Anyone, ANYONE can get an Altima, and compared to comparative cars like the Camry, the Malibu, the Fusion (tho Fusion’s are very close) and even some gens of Accords are…peppier. Helps that the CVT’s these are equipped are fairly short gearing, so the car just feels fast, and thanks to being light, even feels agile. But of course the capabilities aren’t why the Altima was “Altima Energy”. Like I mentioned, they are accessible. Anyone, including even thos who shouldn’t have it, can get into the car. Combined with its driving characteristics thats a recipe for bad actors to abuse the cars bigly. Now all the jabs against people with body work damage is kind privileged, since its not like you know if they can afford o fix something like that. But as far as the reckless driving bit tho, yeah people with no money and no brains can have an altima. Was the best selling North American vehicle in 2016 I believe, so there’s plenty out there! That said I like my Altima a lot 😌 I wouldn’t have became interested in cars without it
@LouisSubearth2 жыл бұрын
I think that the fact that Altimas are very accessible correlates to seeing so many of them clapped out, since they had the money to buy one but not the money to fix it when they crash, scratch or dent them.

I owned a somewhat stock 2013 Altima (L33) for years. Bought it brand new in 2013. Kept it clean, maintained and I put some cash into modding it tastefully (yeah I know it ain't much of a car). Never crashed it and had low miles before I got rid of it. Now I own a brand new pearl blue 22 Altima SR VC Turbo and added some mods to it already starting with AEM intake and Stillen lip (expensive sheeesh). Heard this trim is rare which explains why I don't see them that often on the road. Supposedly the CVT trans has been improved and the SR Turbo models trans can handle up to 275ish torque ( 300+ with a tune and external trans cooler) I own a brand new piggy-back tune module not installed yet from TDI tuning UK. Dealer markup was stupid so the price was close to the new Nissan Z but I talked them down! Very reminiscent of the Altima SER days. It's pretty okay so far. I had NO IDEA they had a bad rep until I turned on the internet lol. This is comedy gold man! 🤣 🤣🤣🤣🤣

TL:DR- I blame the economy. Remember the Camry Dent? Altimas aren't as tough as Camrys. 1- Nissan Altimas are the current automotive embodiment of "F*ck it!". The previous iterations have all moved upmarket, somehow-the Toyota Camry is a NASCAR now, and the SE variant lives up to it. the Sonata is visually and materially better and those huge warranties get well used, but mechanically it's still so much of a headache to fix they end up on bricks after the warranty runs out, plus they're not inherently cool enough to fix or mod like the Accord, Jetta, Lexus ES or Mazda 6. Most of the rest are RWD/AWD based and not in the same market despite being the same size, the BMWs and Benzes and ATSs. Malibus, Sebring/200s and Fusions are all domestic and easily patched up, plus like the Legacys they're so bland you don't even notice them shambling around half-wrecked... So, why the Altima, indeed? 2- Nissan Altimas are still cool for "basic" cars. Despite being cheap as sh*t it's nice, fun, sporty, easy to fix for an import and it looks like a Suzuki Katana in rental car form-and it kind of is! If you ever reserved a "BMW 3" from the airport rental place and came away with the Altima instead of the Sonata, you left happy, right? There's still a few Altima clubs that meet up regularly, they look good all riced out and they can be pretty fast(on Gran Turismo 7, at least!), but despite all that it has going for it, it really is CHEAP AS SH*T-they sacrificed a lot of body integrity to drop the prices to where they are. Even so, all the fast-driving people looking for a budget car with backseat space, the first-car kids with friends to impress and the broke baby mamas with tight schedules and adorable distractions, end up in these and if they touch anything going faster than 2 mph it's there FOREVER because they can't afford repairs... and when they can, f*ck it, it's just a cheap Nissan, right?
