A lot of rookies will pay really well to start out, mainly because the rest of the league doesn’t know their weakness. Once the league figures them out they struggle, and how they come back determines how good they are. This is why sophomore slumps are so common.

Aquino was hitting the fastball and breaking pitches that weren’t breaking too much when he was hot(look at his at bats)Teams then decided to pitch away from him and he didn’t lay off.He kept swinging at pitches out of the zone and then he would miss the fastball he was hitting before bc he was now guessing.All hitters will go through this phase and many cannot make the adjustments bc they just cannot lay off of the breaking stuff meant to keep them off balance…Ted Williams could not have said it any better..He said “ I hit .400 in my career on fastballs down the middle of the plate and .130 on sliders that were down and away.If I would have continued to swing at sliders that were down and away,you would never have heard of Ted Williams”…Laying off of bad pitches is not easy,I don’t care how pretty your swing is.

Baseball is among if not the hardest sport to be consistently good at, and much of that comes down to how hard hitting is.
@TiagoGomez-hb9te6 ай бұрын
Why do you say that?
@Cindoreye6 ай бұрын
@TiagoGomez-hb9te The reaction time and vision needed to hit guys throwing 90+ mph is something very few people possess. Both reaction time and vision deteriorate as we age. Combine this with the fact these pitchers are now throwing even harder and with movement, and you get why hitting is so hard to remain consistently good at. There is also being able to differentiate between off-speed pitches and fastballs. You also can't just be a great athlete and be successful at baseball. It has a weirdly specific set of skills. Michael Jordan is a good example. He was one of the greatest athletes ever, but hitting at a high level was something he couldn't just jump into and immediately be good at. Interestingly, when he decided to go back to basketball, he had been slowly improving at the plate. It just was taking a great deal of time and effort.
@SmoothCriminal126 ай бұрын
Honorable mention to 2009 Chone Figgins. At 31, he had a career year at the plate with a league leading 101 walks, 42 stolen bases, a 300 average and an ops + of 110. All while being a vaualable utility defender as a third baseman and outfielder. He'd sign a big deal with Seattle after 09, and would regress so badly he was bought out barely halfway into the the four year deal with the Mariners.

Hasnt made a big league roster since 2022. He played in the Twins and Diamondbacks systems last season, with both of their Triple A teams, but got released by both of them and was unsigned by the end of the season. He returned to the Blue Jays organization again this year, pitched for their Triple A team, had an ERA in the high 8's and was just released earlier this week. Fair to say, hes probably finished.

Urshela was pretty good and a way better defender than Andujar and at this point in time, he was a better hitter than Andujar after the surgery year. Andujar never hit MLB pitching the same way again how is that due to playing time? He looked nothing like his 2017 self once he came back from surgery. Can’t hit and he can’t field either. I'm def weak at math but your comparison of Griffey Jr 8 strait games with HR vs Kevin Mench 7 strait games with HR doesn't make sense to me because you use the term ratio and then use the 45 strait games Griffey should homer as if they both had equal amount of at bats to achieve career home run numbers . You state Griffey would need to homer in 45 strait games to match Mench's home run ratio. I don't think so unless I am missing the meaning of the word "Ratio". Not make this long winded Mench has only 2362 career at bats and 89 Home runs (Very respectable hr/ab for short career) Griffey has 9801 career at bats with with 630 Home runs. (Just estimating) but Griffey has roughly 4x the at bats as Mench so if Mench had lasted long enough to get 9800 at bats he would be closer to 350 HR's and much more possible and certainly this makes your use of the term RATIO incorrect. (Possible im wrong). So maybe something like Griffy would need to homer in 12 or 15 strait games to match the ratio of Mench. Answer: Yes I have to much time on my hands. Answer: No I'm not Kevin Mench's brother. :)
