What happened to Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin in their Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals was absolutely tragic, and the NFL absolutely made the right call by postponing the game. But what you might not realize is that this was not the first time in MNF history that there was controversy about whether or not the game should be played. Because in week 13 of the 1978 NFL season, when the San Francisco 49ers played the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wake of the assassination of Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk, the NFL came under a ton of heat and a ton of criticism for not moving the game to a different date. Praying for Hamlin.. I do clearly remember this postponement discussion in 1979. It was shocking what happened city hall and equally shocking how close it was to the Leo Ryan tragedy which happened the year before.

I was watching live in the UK and had some major flashbacks to the Christian Eriksen incident. Let's hope that Hamlin has a similar recovery to Eriksen which has seen him return to play at a high level.
