Wel with the rmc trex that’s really the only possible chance at a 500 foot coaster, that’s actually affordable. But the amount of g force a 500 foot single rail would exceed wouldn’t be a good marketing play cause most people won’t be able to handle it, it’ll be like i305 all over again
@joemarais76832 жыл бұрын
I know this is a stupid way to compare, and probably not comparable to real life, but it's pretty obvious why a 400+ foot giga doesn't exist if you just compare it a game like Planet Coaster. To have a realistic coaster that actually utilizes the entire kinetic force of a 460ft drop with few trims, the coaster ends up being twice the length, double the sqft, double the in game cost and most importantly with two mid course break runs only has a bumped up capacity of 2400 tops, just 30% over Fury's theoretical max. A coaster like that just doesn't seem like it'd ever get the monetary return need to build when a park can have three plus coasters with the same land.

two issues to point out with the steepness record: firstly, TMNT is the official record, but from what I can tell some bootleg cheap coasters out in Italy and China seem to have steeper drops that simply were never mentioned. secondly, while the record seems relatively easy to beat nowadays, it has an upper limit. By convention, anything beyond 135° is no longer considered a drop, but rather an inversion, so once the record reaches 135° it will be impossible to beat (otherwise S&S' Screaming Squirrel model would hold the record for steepest drop. On Man-O-War and Sequoia Magic Loop, those inversions could also be seen as 179° drops) also the length record depends on whether or not alpine coasters count, cause by track length those dwarf Steel Dragon 2000. It does give an idea on how to beat the length record through more affordable means though: you'd need to build a terrain-based giga coaster

Airtime is definitely not subjective. You literally measure it with physics if you consider airtime any place where you experience a negative force of gravity (Gs) on the ride. The roller coaster creation software that companies use (like No Limits 2) can easily tell you how much time the coaster is experiencing negative Gs. You just need the speed of the ride over the measured length of the section that is experiencing the negative Gs and then you just add up the time it takes through all those sections.
@samuelahoffman2 жыл бұрын
The problem is that it changes drastically depending on how the ride is running at any given moment due to weather, temperature, weight of the train, daily maintenance, etc. So an accurate measurement immediately becomes inaccurate as soon as any variable changes
@Nick_Shank2 жыл бұрын
@@samuelahoffman I get what you're saying but my point was it could be calculated and was objective, not subjective. There is no way to realistically consider all those variable in a measurement but if all of the measurements are done in a control with no variables like the software they use to build the coasters then the comparisons between them should be valid.
@samuelahoffman2 жыл бұрын
Ok, I think I see where you’re coming from now It would be easy to see which coaster on average has the most airtime, which I believe is where the record is coming from, however the actual ride experience would rarely be what was calculated from the simulation

cosmic rewind could easily have cost 500 mil. They probably paid money for developing the new system, obviously the new theming would cost something, but the new show building they made that a majority of the ride happens in is massive, one of if not the largest indoor space in wdw. I don't think the inversion record is gonna be broken soon or in the near future. Besides, you've already made a video about why inversions are falling out of style and that airtime is pretty much the new hottest thing in the industry. Most of the GP and the thoosies are pretty much BEGGING for airtime of any kind being served to them on a silver platter. With that amount of attention being focused on airtime instead of inversions, I don't think we would see any kind of inversion-based coaster being built at any park anytime soon, and inversions are just gonna be a side-dish to the whole buffet of airtime that most new coasters offer now. PS:Also I kinda find it funny that the Smiler is known to have one of the best airtime moments on any coaster in the UK, even though it's an inversion-based layout.

I understand why some people think Cosmic Rewind doesn’t feel like $500mil, but: 1. It’s not just reusing an old building, that’s just the queue, they built a massive show building right behind it for the actual coaster 2. That massive building has over a mile of track making this one of the longest indoor coasters in the world, one of the longest in general too. 3. Unique ride system, the cars rotate to show you different scenes while traversing coaster speeds 4. The trains are very comfortable and accommodating 5. This ride was designed with two unload stations, two load stations, and multiple block zones to allow for many many trains to operate at once, they have at least 9 trains they can use too. 6. Paying the guardians actors

With that "most expensive" thing it will always come down to what is included in the number. I mean, with something like Black Mamba at Phantasialand, the ride itself was 11 Million Euros, plus another 11 Million on Landscaping on Theming, but is the cost for building the small, themed plaza and souvenir shop included somewhere in the number or not? With Cosmic Rewind, if you include the cost of developing and prototyping a new Coaster Model, licensing for the music and actors used in the ride, theming for the whole building / area and stuff like that I can absolutely see the total cost of the entire project ballooning to 500 Million, especially when you take Covid related delays into consideration.

I was on Cosmic Rewind opening day and the $500M cost is definitely believable, the absolutely crazy amount of effects and theming they managed to shove into just that one ride is INSANE (especially in the actual coaster section).
