Blue's glowup honestly makes me so happy, you can so clearly see how he grew from a smug, cocky little bully to a more mature, kinder boy that acts as a mentor while still retaining his playful smugness. Even his physical design shows his development as a person without erasing what made him Blue.

The Whips in Gen1 had nothing to do with Team Rocket, but in a earlier stage in Developement Whips where part of "Training" Pokemon... but the Whip-Part got changed during developement and the only Remnant are some Sprites (i belive Rockets, Sabrina, Bikers, Lasses, Aces and Rockers)

Sabrina having a whip have always made sense to me if you think about that, since most of the time, Sabrina's looks are always based of off ace trainers, even her LGPE outfit is based off of Gen 4 ace trainers. Idk what ace trainer where they thinking when they designed HGSS though.

Love the change to Sabrina. The previous one was great, but that one does feel more...mature? First one feels like she tries to be a psychic stereotype and second one like a person who matured and decided that "Screw it, I'll wear what I want." Koga also started to have gray hair. I first thought it was to accent the hair colour, but no, they are little too light colour. I love FRLG onwards Lance, but I kinda miss his dorky Gen 2 sprite. That pose was amazing.

Lieutenant Surge's change in outfits over the three years between the games remind me a lot of one of the pieces of dialogue of Black Ops 1, surprisingly. When you first see Woods again in the mission S.O.G. Mason tells him that "he looks like hammered sh*t" to which Woods responds: "Looks don't count for sh*t in the jungle." At the end of the mission, Bowman will say the same line to Mason as well after which he responds: "Well, Nam will do that to ya." I guess the reason it reminds me of that is because Surge's outfit starts off as uniform but changes to something more lax, just like with soldiers who were already fighting for a while in the Vietnam war. Maybe it's just me, who knows?

I still have some mix feelings about Sabrina's new look. I always liked how she looked like a "mysterious psychic trainer" and I enjoy it being re-envision over the years, especially in the Lets Go remakes that make her look so good! In HG/SS, I feel like they tried to modernize her, I mean, it isn't bad per say, but I feel like the only link to her being psychic are her bracelets or should I call them shackles or maybe, power inhibitors? IDK. It isn't bad like I said, I just prefer her old look.

One of my favorite glow ups in pokemon is still going to be them giving Maxie those glasses in the remakes it just fits, the rest of his outfit is a little silly but the turtle neck and glasses feel more like Maxie's character than his original design did but I'd love to hear more on the jhoto trainers too!

Pokemon does a pretty good job on glowups. ORAS must be one of my favorite remakes of Gen 3 for glowups, they did an amazing job on all of the characters, so did HGSS as well. I really like Ethans glowup, not because he's one of my favorite protagonists, he looks better than from gold or silver.

I think Red not getting a redesign was done to up his intimidation factor. In the story, he's been hiding out at the top of Mount silver, the highest and coldest point in two regions, for three years. You'd think that would call for at least giving the poor kid a jacket, but no. He's still wearing the same t-shirt and jeans like he always did. Red is so tough he's survived three years in a place that should've killed him within a few hours

I like these sequel redesigns because it really seems like the events of the first games and the main protagonists Red/Green had a positive impact on each of the gym leaders. Each character, Misty, Erika, and Sabrina all seem much happier to see new protagonists Gold/Crystal progressing through their own journeys year later

Blaine in the manga is probably the best gym leader. Poses as TR scientist and develops Mewtwo with his own DNA, bonding the two. They give a canon reason why there's art of him without a moustache and no glasses. He's the first to know Yellow's secret and seems to be the most helpful and resourceful ally to the protag trainers.

Sabrina's full body suit is also probably a recolor of her manga look, as she's a TR admin and her outfit is almost 1 to 1 to that outfit, just in TR colors and her wrists are rendered borderline useless by Lorelei in Adventures, requiring her to seek the hot springs of Mt Silver (much like Red does) so the wrist bracelets she has could be a reference to that.

i have a theory about sabrina's new clothes. as her psychic powers grew she started sensing more fear from those around her. those who once enjoyed her company now kept their distance so she made a push to be more sociable. she started by dressing more "normal" then started attending more social gatherings. in b2 and w2 she even took up acting the wristlets i think are either some kind of training weights or they allow her to store and even share her gifts.

in pokemon adventures even though sabrina didn't get a cameo in hgss chapter but did get an appearance in b2w2 chapter. she seems a lot more laid back than she was in her previous appearances, as well as seeming to have completely disassociated herself from team rocket and found a new and better life for her as an actress. she even helps whitley(female protagonist of the chapter, counterpart for rosa) choose which movie she should do in pokestar studios.

It'd be even down for you to just describe and comment every trainers (yes, even random trainers) outfit and what their poses say about them no matter the games, redesign/glow-ups or just base. Then maybe do the same with the pokemon themselves ? Anyway, great content you get a sub

I remember loving most of the HGSS designs, but i had a lot of trouble accepting Sabrina, it's been years and i have come to like her redesign and change in life but back then it felt too different and too sudden.

As someone who spent a lot of her childhood playing HGSS, I appreciate this video. Johto in general doesn't get anywhere near as much attention as any of the other regions, and HGSS was forgotten even more. I still love the games despite the level spikes, and I actually have a Pokéwalker on me right now. If you haven't played it yet, go do it! The unique features always keep me coming back.

I do believe that some other characters and NPC's are worth a look in HGSS, mainly: Red, Oak, and various other NPC's between both original gen 2 and the remake.
