Because Constance is Asian-American while Henry and Michelle are Asian-Asians. Hasn't the movie taught you anything? :-P
@chrisnguyen59226 жыл бұрын
Henry is married, and he said his biggest challenge during the movie process was his wife being distressed on him cheating on her. That's why there may be playful flirting and friendliness, but Henry tries to stay reserved and respectful in public. By nature and career, Henry is more extroverted as a former travel host. On the other hand, Constance said throughout her acting career she became very introspective and self-conscious about things in general. I think she may be a bit introverted even. She is a bit distant because she's foreign to the Asian motherland being American her entire life, while Henry has traveled numerous places and, as a male, is just confident in general.

its very upsetting when the film was made in Malaysia and yet Singapore got promoted for something they dont even have it. the moment I saw the Nick Young's mansion, I knew it was NOT filmed in Singapore. Singapore, even the billionaire stays in double storey house. the producer of this movie owes Malaysia a recognition that they deserve. Love from Hong Kong.

The novel was written and the movie made by a Singapore citizen who later became an American citizen. The movie was focussed, centred on Singapore. It is about Singapore, not Malaysia. 7 out of 10 of the significant movie locations are in Singapore. The most prominent ones Marina Bay Downtown, Changi Airport, Marina Bay Sands, Gardens By The Bay, Merlion Park and Sentosa Island are Singapore icons.They are instantly recognizable and known like all over the world. Malaysia's location are more like plain backdrops that almost nobody remembers Singapore is the main focus, the star. Malaysia is just an unknown stand in, body double. See what Director John Chu said. "It’s no coincidence that we chose Singapore as a centre of this story. It is a city of the future. It is a glimpse into what the whole world will be. High-tech buildings, low-tech buildings, history, culture - I hope that by getting a glimpse of this place, and as a character in our movie, you get a glimpse of what the world can be like." "Showcasing Singapore at it’s most luxurious was central to the story. The texture of our movie, its escapism, comes from the fact that we really shot in these places. Everywhere we pointed the camera we found something special. It’s a unique blend of cultures.” And see what Henry Golding, the main actor, said of Singapore as the main movie location “That’s the beauty of this movie, it’s so realistic in the sense that we’re on location in some of the craziest locations in Singapore. And now showing them to a global audience, people have literally been coming up to me saying, ‘I’m buying a ticket (to Singapore). I have to go!’ It looked beautiful. We had to film on location, no question about that". See what movie producer Brad Simpson said "“Shooting in Singapore itself was non-negotiable. The movie is a love letter to the food, culture and beauty of this area. The mixture of pristinely preserved colonial architecture from the past with ultra-modern cutting-edge buildings of the future, the life on the streets, and the vibrancy of the Hawker Markets, all make its signature. We also knew there were two iconic locations that had to be in the film: the Marina Bay Sands, and the famous Gardens by the Bay.” What Michelle Yeoh, one of the main actress said "When you’re in Singapore with the tropical air, the smell of food in the Hawker centres and the brilliant colours of the flowers and plants… there’s nothing like being on a location like this.” According to costume designer Mary Vogt, her instructions from Cho (Director) were “colour, and lots of it! He wanted to show Rachel’s world in New York a bit like Dorothy in Kansas: heavier, with black, white and grays. When she gets off the plane in Singapore, suddenly they’re in Oz where things are brighter, food tastes better, and everything is just a little more hyped up.”

@ One other thing, the fact that Kevin Kwan, the person who wrote the novel, is not allowed back in Singapore has NOTHING to do with the casting decisions you moron. He was not going to act in the movie. And he did not make the movie, Hollywood did. Despite the fact he is barred from entering Singapore, the movie was made IN Singapore and the story was of Singapore. Location shooting in a movie can be elsewhere, anywhere. It can be created as a movie set in a studio. Or created via computer graphics, like the lake in front of the Malaysian mansion which does not exist in real life. The cast is multi national the actors are not just Malaysians or Singaporeans. The main actors are American and British. Malaysia is beautiful and has many talented people, there is no denying it. Whether you like it or not, there is nothing wrong with it. Just like Michelle Yeoh acted as Myanmar Aung Suu Kyi in a movie. It is not an insult to Myanmar.

Tarap is a fruit very much like Cempedak. It's only found Sabah and Sarawak (not too sure about Kalimantan). The outer skin is so soft, you can pry it open with your bare hands. The fruit browns very easily. It's white, with smallish seeds. Tarap has a strong sweet scent.

@@fitriganzaholaaa5384 did you or did you not read what I type? Who cares about where it filmed ? The movie just wants to show the Life of a Crazy Rich Asian. Plus they give credit to all the location. Ngl I think your people just love to find something to fight about with SG for no reason.

OMG yass when I saw Henry and Dato' Sri Michelle who are Malaysians I was like why they didn't make the storyline that Nick is from Malaysia but yeah since it is based on the novel they probably followed the novel but then knowing that they filmed in Malaysia kinda makes me proud and really hope that people who watched the movie know that those beautiful places in the movie is Malaysia not Singapore.

We lived in Jahor for 3 months which is on the Malaysian border but only 30 minutes from Singapore. The prices of everything are crazy different; a lot of people would live in jahor but work in Singapore cause they get paid a lot more then live comfortably in Jahor. Worst part was we are American so we had to go through immigration every time we visited Singapore; took forever.

Debating abt which country should it represent doesnt matter... bot countries are RICH and its an ASIAN setting... singapore rich in concrete jungle, malaysian in nature... And its abt the Young family who are supposed to be rich in all of Asia... thus they have a home in Singapore... and a family retreat home in the lush jungles of malaysia... his dad is all the way in HK... Everyone knws Singapore fr the architecture... and Malaysia fr its Nature... why not merge into one rich culture... we still use LAH in all conversation...
