I ordered planet nine on Black Friday since it was $5 on Amazon. I’m not a huge fan of trick taking games, but figured I’d introduce it to the group and give it a chance since it’s viewed in such high regards. Then if we like and play it, we can grab deep sea. Thanks for the video!

The intro is the very thing I noticed a few days ago HAHAHAHA. Played the crew 1 with family at start of the year. Gonna play the Cree 2 with the family at the end of the year 😁

I completely agree with you. I have tried both games for new gamers and had a blast! The group that played the crew planet 9 enjoyed it so much, all of them ended up getting one themselves. Deep sea, I definitely played this more often as it has more replayability. However, if I would have to look for a problem, I would say due to the randomness of the task cards, it was difficult to set up a strategy. For planet 9, it was easier to get the hang of a certain mission after a few tries but deep sea just felt different every time even on the same mission.

This was a great explanation of both games. Thanks so much i only played planet 9 once with my 2 sons at Christmas time and i liked it and need to play it again but my sons loved it and said they need to get this game. I Will definitely tell them about Deep sea. Thanks again.

Definitely give it a shot on BGA! Worth playing even if it doesn't make sense buying a physical copy for yourself.

The Crew: Quest for Planet nine has been a hard sell for some members of my game group and I'm not sure why as I think that it is great. I have recently acquired Mission Deep sea and although I haven't tried it yet with my game group I have played on BGA and I actually find it easier than Quest simply because you can pass on taking any of the quest cards if you don't believe you can complete one. In my experience there is usually one of the available quests that I can do, but if there isn't another player will generally take it. Of the two games I also prefer Mission Deep Sea to Quest basically because I find the quests varied and interesting.

If I ever played the crew, it'd be my first trick-taking game, so I was wondering if I should try another one first with easier mechanisms. But I'm curious to experience such game.

The Crew is so good. I'm not sure that it's necessarily the best or easiest introduction to the mechanic, but it's also not too tricky to wrap your head around after a couple plays either!

I just own both. Don't have a preference as I'm only on mission 20 of the first one and mission 5 of the second one.

Terrific comparative review. All I could've asked for. Very well done, Dylann. Thank you. In particular I thought your point that both editions are excellent, yet might have slightly preferable advantages in specific situations was especially insightful. Sometimes a sequel immediately makes its predecessor obsolete. I don't think that's exactly the case here. Based on your review, I think I will use Planet Nine to introduce the game to most people, then graduate to Deep Sea with those who love it and want even more.
