In India we only get one type of yarn and I am seriously so fed up. To get a perfect size of yarn we need to go online and that too they are very pricey as per an Indian. 2000 RS for a t shirt yarn also this is the same for hooks too though the good thing about them is they are not pricey. One thing my all Indian crochet lover frnds could do is that they can recycle their t shirt by converting them into yarn

I know you did this series awhile ago…. But another cool thing for new crocheters to see would be what each of those yarns look like when they are used. Having crocheted for over 25 years- I’ve worked with most of them…. But even I am surprised sometimes at how a particular yarn works up! It would be great if you could have some swatches to show what they look like! ❤

I had to Google it so for others: WPI means “wraps per inch”. Aka thinner yarns have more wraps within an inch, and therefore higher WPI

I want to start crocheting, which yarn should be best for tops?
@CrochetWithTiffany
@CrochetWithTiffany 4 ай бұрын
Hmm, Great question. I would stick with a yarn that is a size 3 or size 4 weight. Non-Textured so your stitches are easier to see. And then really anything that feels good in your hands. OH! And try not to get a color that is dark or super bright white. These colors can create a challenge to see your stitches as well. There are a crazy amount of yarns you could try. Working within these parameters should put you in a successful spot. 🤗❤️🧶

Is 350m-383m yd yarn is enough to make a scarf ? Do we need more than one ball to make a scarf ?
@CrochetWithTiffany
@CrochetWithTiffany 6 ай бұрын
That is a fantastic question! Honestly, it all depends on the thickness of the yarn you are using, the dimensions you want for your scarf AND what crochet stitch. 350m’s of yarn in a size Lacy weight will not get you very far at all and 350m’s of a size 6 yarn would be pretty big. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Excellent video! I taught myself to crochet with a book, a hook and a variegate yarn back in the 70s. Made an afghan using chain stitch and single crochet. Good grief! Only thing that saved my sanity was the variegation. The selections of yarns back then was limited so your information for new crocheters is very important. Nothing more frustrating for them than to buy a beautiful yarn and then run into frustration finding their stitches. Thank you!

You said the size 5 yarn was also known as a roving yarn. That is incorrect, roving is a type of yarn not a size. Roving yarn can come in any size. I'm watching your video and I see a size 7 roving yarn on your shelf. Maybe you can correct this in a later video about yarn styles, roving, chain spun, plyed etc. ✌💜

Actually she said size 6 and she’s correct. Size 6 is sometimes referred to as roving yarn. Multiple knitting and crochet websites refer to this. ✌🏻💜

help, im planning for a bucket hat, and maybe a cardigan once I practice enough, but I don't know what type of ply i should use for a bucket hat and cardigan
@CrochetWithTiffany
@CrochetWithTiffany Ай бұрын
That is a good question. For a bucket hat or a Cardigan you will want to use thicker yarn. I would recommend a size 3 weight yarn or 8ply, a size 4 weight yarn or 10 ply, or a size 5 weight yarn or 12 ply. I hope this helps. If you need help figure out different size yarn go to Pinterest.com and search Yarn Size Chart. It will help you to convert so you don't accidentally purchase something too small. 😊💖🧶

Thank you so much for this! I was looking for a good yarn that wouldn’t be too difficult but wasn’t going to end up being very holy. I went for a velvety yarn and was scared I had chosen something out of my league 😅. This will be very helpful for the future. OH GOD, I got three little balls from the one that looks like 4 different strands. I didn’t know and it was so frustrating 😭, I did finish two projects with it but now I only use it for very small things (doll/pet clothes).

I think Aran yarns need further exploration. In my experience an Aran yarn is too big to be a solid 4 weight, but still too thin to be a full on 5 bulky weight. I have about 4 of this type of yarn from many manufacturers, and it defines is a real thing. Aran weight yarns make beautiful wearable items. 🥰

What is the most consistent terminology for describing yarn especially buying yarn online? I've seen 2-3 videos on yarn reviews where the maker feels like the manuf. label using numbers is incorrect based on how it actually works up.
@CrochetWithTiffany
@CrochetWithTiffany Жыл бұрын
Hi Elisha. That is a great question. I've never really thought of that before. I believe the most common form of yarn identification on a yarn label world wide would be the ounces of yarn. That can be tricky depending on the actual size of the yarn. Even here in the US I have run into issues with different yarns brands claiming to be the same size but because some yarn can be considered light or heavy they are definitely not the same. I think that has a lot to do with machines, or if the yarn is handmade, and the gauge range a yarn can be to fit in a size slot. I have recently started referring to yarn Wraps Per Inch or (WPI) to keep myself consistent in projects. Of course not all yarn will have that info on the label and you will have to figure that number out for yourself. But it is SUPER EASY!! I made a short video showing how to figure out a yarns Wrap Per Inch and how to take the information and apply it to a project. I hope this will help you in your future projects and clear up some questions you are having. For that video, CLICK HERE: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gamTp59ppq2MrZo

I'm a beginner & the only yarn I had to work with was a, according to Amazon, a 3DK yarn. It gets fuzzy & the strands separate very easily so I keep having to undo a stitch cause my hook only grabbed some of the strands or extra strands from a loop I was just trying to pull through. A little frustrating. I just got some little skeins of Sugar 'n Cream, I think it's called? Label says it's a medium 4. Hopefully it'll work out better for me to learn on. Thanks for this!

Hi Amy! I’m so glad you are trying a different yarn after being frustrated with the last. Just a heads up 100% cotton yarn has a lot of friction to it and may not be the smoothest to work with but will make some incredible washcloths which is a beginner friendly project. I would recommend you try a size 4 weight yarn that is 100% acrylic for a good feel when just starting out. Maybe take a peak at some the next time you go shopping for yarn. 😊
