Could any new Crow movie live up to the hype of the 1994. Brandon Lee version? What does the failure of this movie mean for Bill Skarsgard and his future in Hollywood?

Remaking this film is not only low class but borderline sacrilegious.

Definitely, the original was such a cultural moment for that time, even the soundtrack was amazing. I'm 50 now and was 20 at the time and all sorts of people loved it.

The Crow. The ORIGINAL one. One of the GREATEST masterpieces in filmmaking. The Goth culture was IMPACTFUL to me as someone who was on the verge of being a teenager. DEFINITELY a film that need not be remade! I REFUSE to watch this debacle of a remake. I STILL get the feels when I see it. 😢 I briefly had a conversation with my mother last night about films that don't need to be remade. I mentioned The Crow. I also mentioned The Color Purple. Yes, I supported the remake last year. I thought it was good, but it was UNNECESSARY. Same with talks about Ghost with the great Patrick Swayze being remade. Hollywood needs to focus on what is needed and what the audience will appreciate. Btw, I loved Deadpool Vs Wolverine too. ❤ Sidenote: The lead actress is a great musical artist named FKA Twigs. Why she signed up for this is BEYOND me. Same with the usually IMPRESSIVE Bill Skarsgard and Danny Huston. Money down the toilet 🚽🤦🏾‍♀️

The original Crow was a tragedy. Not just the story, but the death of Brandon. The new Crow is indeed tragic.. for an entire 2 hours worth of reasons. What a disaster. But what it does do well is point people toward the original, perhaps making it even greater.

With so many studios and hands mishandling franchises, i am not even sure if a Brandon Lee Crow sequel would have been good, if he lived.

This movie should never have been remade. Brandon literally gave his life in the original. I have not seen any other Crow movies after Brandon Lee’s version and don’t plan to.

I was 8-9 years old when I first watched the original *_The Crow_* when it premiered on Starz in 1995. It made me a fan of Brandon Lee's tragically short filmography.

The original was amazing, and I walked in thinking Brandon Lee was going to do a kung-fu movie, and it wasn’t. It was so much more, compounded by his accident. It’s the poster-child for why sequels, remakes and universes are a broken concept (in 95% of movies).

The Crow in 1994 was a modern masterpiece. The mystique of Brandon Lee solidified it. The original film was counterculture and personified Gen X’s identity and purpose. This remake/reboot, sadly, is a mirror to Gen Z, a generation that lacks identity and still hasn’t found their purpose. This remake/reboot feels like a mundane sequel that isn’t worthy of the sole title, The Crow.

I was a young adult when the original was made. And you described it perfectly as a shift- in entertainment and music. I love all kinds of 80s music across the genres, but the 90s was so different especially for metal and rock. The Crow introduced me to NIN; Dead Souls was one of those songs that changed everything when I first heard it. As with movies, it's been many years since something new in music wowed me. I think the last was Slipknot's The Gray Chapter. Anyhow back to the movie, I hated the whole synopsis. It's SO tired: poor little druggies, poor little geeky dude always picked on, "attractive" girl sees the awesome in him. Blah blah blah. Then the bad guy in charge- bad guy, made a deal with the devil, rampant crime lord, blah blah blah. What got even worse were the other details (as described by people who watched this), random guy sends Eric back 3x to wipe out Dillon, no one knows what this guy is but ok. Then Eric condemns himself in hell for a murderer with boobs because...why? Because of the sex? Because she treated him like a lil studmuffin? Their relationship as portrayed doesn't explain that. And Skaarsgard may be a good actor (I don't remember seeing him but other people recommend him), but he does not have the presence or charisma for this part...Lee did. Lee was amazing in this role. But perhaps that's the director's fault. As far as the director: 🤣😂 lol telling fans to go touch grass like a wee b**ch. The fandom spends way more time touching grass than watching crap content these days, which is why he has less people watching his movie and picking apart what's bad about it. Otherwise there'd be more people complaining about that wasted time and twenty bucks.

One of the things I like about the original Crow movie was that understandable storytelling behind Eric Draven and his motivations for why he became The Crow and the quotes from Brandon Lee as when he was up against the bad guys

Rotten Tomatoes is definitely suppressing negative reviews from the audience.. first looks and trailers for this movie we're getting roasted by fans, and now all of a sudden it has 65% audience score.. not shady at all..😅

Great review, just one small thing: Brandon didn’t actually die in the makeup/costume. He died while filming the scene when he comes in to find Shelly being attacked in the flashback. So, he had “normal” clothes on.

Is there any remake Dante would want to see get made, because the original had good ideas that were very terribly and/or mediocrely executed.

Agreed! They just had to try and squeeze another dollar out of The Crow franchise once more. Nothing will top the classic film my dude. It's compitantly made and acted by most of the cast, but misses the mark ultimately. Cheers!

The new crow villain made a deal with satan while i always viewed the original head villain as satan incarnate himself. Like so evil he was demonic.

And also, charismatic like I'd view satan himself. As a human he had followers and power over others,he didn't have to use supernatural help.

So the thing I would like to say is, let’s not kill this series off just yet maybe don’t go back and reboot the whole first movie don’t do. they were attempting to use the comics as a source material. Don’t use the first book. There are other books in the series . Use one of those stories that’s all I want. I’ve wanted this film franchise to come back because I’ve been a fan since the beginning . I was disappointed with the movie, but I just hope that they do not let this stop them from making more Crow movies. That’s all I hope.

Skarsgard is not to blame for the absolute garbage script he had to work with. He's got Nosferatu coming up and a return to Derry with Pennywise. His career isn't in jeopardy at all. The director, however...better get his shit together.
