This wonderful bloke is a man who practices what he preaches. I've known him for a decade now and by pure luck and last minute planning I've been fortunate enouph to spend many evenings chatting, exploring and just hanging out in multiple countries. Rrandall is one of the most honest and genuine people I've ever met, he never expects anything and doesn't even raise an eyebrow at my many flaws. He's always been wrapped in wisdom and stoicism... a kind of organic "cool" that us rock n rollers wish we could purchase at a flea market somewhere. His stoicism and his kindness is something to admire, I was so shocked to see an interview with such a dear friend here. Wherever he is at the moment, I'm sure our paths will cross again and I'm looking forward to it. One of the kindest folks I've ever known! Super cool to get his story out there ❤️

I respect this man so much. His abstinence from sex and alcohol sounds so absurd to most people but not to me. He can find the right woman who will respect his values. Affection can still be expressed without intercourse. His morals and values are highly important and there aren’t enough people honoring abstinence from sex until marriage. I can relate to the issues with food from my own past depression. I overcame that and I’m so glad I did. Alcohol, food, drugs and sex can all become addictive for anyone with mental health issues or depression, simply because of the DOPAMINE RUSH & LACK OF COPING SKILLS. That’s why I LOVE THERAPY. Once you find a good therapist, who cares about their work and want to actually help people, like he said, it does help for anyone who ever thought of trying it. Healing is a beautiful thing. ❤️

Kierkegaard I find more intriguing, and intermittently so, than interesting. For your soul's sake, Dostoevsky, Flannery O'Connor, and Walker Percy are the fiction writers I recommend. Equally, I recommend the theological writing of C.S. Lewis, G.K. Chesterton, and even though I'm Protestant, Ronald Knox.

@bobtaylor170
@bobtaylor170 Жыл бұрын
@@sabrinas2090 , video is video, so you can't compare it or its contents with literature, but there is a great KZbin channel which will feed your soul with Biblical truth: Soteriology 101. The Dallas Theological Seminary channel has good things on it. 1517 is very good, from a Lutheran perspective. And there's a fascinating channel which I haven't seen enough of to give a solid verdict on, but The Academy of Ideas will feed and challenge your mind. But literature is literature, just as music is music. You can't replace literature with anything anymore than you can replace music with anything. I realize that a lot of people have reading problems, such as dyslexia or ADHD, but if you can possibly read great literature, such as the things I've suggested, you will always nourish your soul. Read The New Testament and the Psalms, at least.

He's heroically brought himself back from the brink of death but I'd like to see him tentatively work towards more engagement with others. God is not perfect, what we call God is only the combined consciousness of all spiritual beings. So it has no gaps in knowledge or ability but is also full of ignorance, failures. There is no perfect existential being to put off or fear. They say our relationship with God is very representative of our relationship with our parents. I can't imagine how overwhelming it would be to have your God, your parents, your school, their employment all intertwined and dependent on one another. How could you successfully be expected to develop confident autonomy. Moderation in all things, including moderation. Not participating is not being in control, if the human experience could be understood without living it this experiment would be over already.

Dang! yet another wonderful guest! I found him to be very introspective all the while having issues with his depression, anxiety to name two, for example. His verbiage was placed at a higher grammatical level in some areas, yet he did provide a few specific examples of what he meant. I especially liked the concept (at least from my perspective) of describing in generalization, his way of analyzing for example, the Bible, to a point of understanding from his own perspective, rather than taking the passages in literal fashion. Again, a wonderful video. Peace.✌

Very well said, Rhonda. I second all the well wishing very sincerely. I have a fondness for people brave enough to spend time alone, and eyeball deep in all of themselves. Not just the parts a mirror shows us, not just the persona we want others to view us as- or the version we’ve memorized to ourselves in order to feel good or comfortable or accepted but to quietly jump into self reflection is absolutely liberating. Stark/blunt truth with regard to one’s self has great reward. It’s just not that popular pastime or trending after school sport clamored to pen a secured spot on the spaces limited sign up sheet. I very much admire those courageous enough to remain honest and noble; I often have to quit myself from cynical inner dialogue about altruism being dead. I admit it’s a thin line remaining the way that naturally is so easy for me and wisely chalking the boundary line after paying close attention first and not just blindly helping as I was prone to. I believe Rrandal blesses himself tenfold with his honestly and his advantage is lack of or mindful managing of certain bottomless appetites that only make life more complicated. We’re the architects of 75% of our own pain. That can be harsh a reality for some to look at. Thanks to both gentlemen for the frank nature & vulnerability to have the give/take exchange that helps us all learn. 🤓

And it's really sad that so many people have an emotional barrier set up who won't allow not just themselves, but anyone around them feel more then is in their comfort zone..and shame and guilt can completely destroy one..but most people don't look at their feelings intentionally..I can't help but always look at myself, which often leaves me quite isolated. Hi Randall. My name is James and a lot of your philosophy speaks quite directly to me. I have lived in Tokyo for over 20 years as a fundamental Christian amongst a Buddhist population. When you said you found GOD through the back door and mentioned the term Christian existentialist, you really grabbed my attention. Thank you for openly sharing and allowing someone like me to know the world is not full of sheep but rather folks who find there own special non coerced way to discovering GOD no matter what that may entail for each one. @@sunray8136 Trauma and mental illness are real...no doubt. I've suffered trauma in my life to know that as well. I think I wonder what some label as "mental illness", in some people, ... in reality, by labeling them, it becomes a way to dismiss them and not acknowledge them as living authentic lives. Perhaps lives that challenge the way "those who are labeling" think and act...so it's easy to dismiss/discount the ones who have a "mental illness".
@rrandallxi

@@lauras610 I think you're touching on something relevant anyways - When all our most prominent artists, writers, scientists, mathematicians, musicians, and the like seem to all have disorders of varying degrees - are they not also in some ways by their own capacity just wrestling with and pursuing a depth others won't sacrifice for? Not to discount dysfunction and mental illness or that it should be neglected (obviously I've benefitted from therapy), but it does seem like we then discount the human volition from these people and write them off as 'weird' or 'mentally ill' or exceptional, when it's often a little bit more than just that. “For in much wisdom is much vexation, and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow.” (Ecclesiastes 1:18 ESV)

He's not an interviewer. He doesn't interview these people. He just allowes them to talk. He's been interviewed on this. He wants to stay out of it as much as possible, because he wants it to be their story, not something guided by himself. Mark is very adamant about these not being "interviews". I saw myself in this kid. I say kid because I’m 15 years older. Just about every feeling, every struggle, and every way he interacts and perceives himself and his relationship with the world completely resonated with me. Unlike him, I chose to medicate with sex, drugs, writing music and involving myself in as many bands and recording projects that would come my way. All to avoid spending time with the person that I least wanted to be with, me. Rrandall made better choices. That lifestyle becomes unsustainable, leaving you to have to deal with all the sh*t you have run away from, eventually. Hang in there, Rrandall.
