Former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's assassination by her two Sikh bodyguards in 1984 sparked off anti-Sikh riots across the country. At least 3,000 Sikhs died in the violence. Pappi Kaur was 15 at the time. In this film, she talks about losing her loved ones in the riots and how the event changed her life.

Congress party workers marked sikh houses with a red cross. My mother's non sikh family hid the sikhs in their stores with lights off. Whenever someone would come to ask where are the sikhs next door? They said they left long back. That small store is still there i see it wenever i go to naani's house it gives me chills the sikhs still live next door in the same house they are lifelong friends of my mom's family. I have seen such deep love between them.....may god bless all sikh brothers....

The Prime Minister of India, Indira, who had ordered the operation, bore the brunt of the blame. When the operation was carried out, the Indians knew that the life of the criminal Indira was in danger. In the days and months after Blue Star, Indira spoke about her impending death to her family and close friends. Pupul Jayakar, Indira's confidant, said that he rarely saw her in such a mood, Indira's mind was very confused and afraid of death. Security around his family, especially her grandchildren, Rahul (then 14 years old) and Priyanka (12 years old), was also increased. She has fears that her grandchildren will be harmed, either kidnapped or harmed. Since June, she has lived with that terrible thought. At around 9:10 am on October 31, the female psychopath, Indira Gandhi came out of her official residence on Safdarjung Road, New Delhi and went to her private office in a bungalow adjacent to the house on Akbar Road. She was accompanied by a small entourage consisting of constables, Narain Singh and Rameshwar Dayal; his personal secretary, R.K. Dhawan; and his housekeeper, Nathu Ram. As she walked along the path in the park, Sub-Inspector Beant Singh, a long-time member of Indira's security team, came forward. Constable Satwant Singh, a new recruit, was standing a few steps away. According to Jayakar, Beant smiled and folded his hands in greeting, when she saw him raise his hands as if to salute her. However, the hand was holding a gun and Beant shot her in the stomach from three feet away. Beant fired four more shots from close range before Satwant Singh fired 30 pistol bullets at the female cowdunger. The shooting lasted about 25 seconds and Indira fell to the ground. I was in India at the time as a traveller and never thought that the separate Sikh state was a good idea. Swami Vivekananda, who represented Hinduism at the World parliament of religions, himself was a "Sikh" of Ramakrishna. In fact, Ramakrishna had at least 10-12 "Sikhs", Vivekananda was one of them.
