My dears, after the somber news of King George's (Jared Harris) passing, Elizabeth (Claire Foy) and Philip (Matt Smith) return from Kenya to London. I believe the weight of sovereignty now rests upon Elizabeth's shoulders.

This scene blew my mind honestly. Queen Mary would have shown honor to her father-in-law, her husband, both of her sons, and now her granddaughter. What a legacy. Her character was very interesting.

Queen Mary really deserves her own show covering her life. She grew up as semi-royal on the periphery of the British Royal Family, went through two world wars, her sons abdication, and so much more.

Very intelligent and sophisticated (spent much of her youth in Italy and had a lifelong love of Italian art and culture). She ended up married to a one dimensional boor whose only interests were stamp collecting, bullying his children, and blasting game birds out of the sky. She had a weakness for pretty objects and would embarrass her hosts wherever she visited into giving her any ‘objet d’art’ which caught the royal eye.

Queen Elizabeth was never referred to as Elizabeth Mountbatten. She was not a commoner. Royal Highnesses do not have a surname. She was a Royal Highness before she became queen. She was born HRH Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary of York. After her father became king, she was known as HRH The Princess Elizabeth. After she got married, she was known as HRH The Princess Elizabeth Duchess of Edinburgh and never as Elizabeth Mountbatten.

And Queen Mary, of all people, would never have used, that name. When Lord Mountbatten made his notorious claim that the House of Mountbatten was now reigning, Queen Mary took immediate steps to put an end to what she called "this Battenberg nonsense '. Sadly the name is constantly used nowadays.

It’s just a show, not everything will be hyper-literal. Queen Mary puts it this way to contrast her new destiny with her inner sense of identity. But sure, I guess she could have had the same effect and been more accurate with “Elizabeth Windsor”.

A logical order of precedence would not have blocked Philip from escorting her, he was her consort. But I hear this isn't always the case for a queen regnant. As long as Philip doesn't disembark first. You'd think a brand new monarch would be escorted with a bonded courier.

One of my earliest childhood memories was of seeing the Queen's portrait at the end of a long highway in the school where I started kindergarten. Eerie to realize that I'm in my 50s now -- most of the teachers, and even the school itself are gone. The Queen reigned for a long time ... she even outlived my parents. On one level I knew that she was a mortal like the rest of us, but I can pick up a handful of coins from the jar where I keep my spare change, and they all have her portrait -- they will be in circulation for the rest of my life, I bet. (I even saw some of her father's coins well into the new century.)

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved this series, but I found myself really loving the earlier seasons the most. Especially the ones from the 1940s and 1950s and even some of the earlier flashbacks to the 30s. I understand why the series focuses on Queen Elizabeth 's life, but it would've been really interesting to see an earlier version of The Crown. I know Peter Morgan and Netflix are in talks for a prequel, but I don't expect that series anytime soon. I know Peter Morgan wants a break, but when we do get it, I think it's gonna be just as wonderful. I believe his idea is the story of the four Kings. King Edward VII, Queen Victoria's son, his son King George V after the death of his older brother Prince Albert Victor. Then David (Edward VIII) - the one who fell in love with Wallis and eventually abdicated and then finally end with King George VI, QEII's father.... It'd be excellent!

Matthew Smith’s portrayal of Prince Phillip was so far from the mark. He slouched all the way through his scenes - PPhillip always had the straight posture of a naval officer. He gave a very disappointing performance - not just in this scene - Philip’s descent down the plane’s steps was very light-footed and purposeful - but throughout the two seasons he was on the show. Claire Foy was absolutely brilliant. I’m so impressed by her incredible portrayal of the young Queen Elizabeth!
