Interesting how men would curse the women for not being able to bare a son, when its actually the men’s sperm carrying the chromosome that decides the gender of the baby

And such hypocrisy to claim such faith and devotion to the will of their Christian god along with claiming god himself says the man is higher than the woman but yet it’s the woman’s fault ? And also if women had a choice for a male or female child I’m pretty sure the princess or queen would rather have a male duh. I would think god is punishing me with no heir not my wife even if she was unfaithful or has not been living right I would still see god doing it not her or me

I dont think that actually true. he ruled England very well, and he certainly wasn't hated like Bloody Mary. Its probably just a popular way to think of things now, when men are hated anyhow. Anyway, England was in a. better place then then they are now. The quality of life in England today is complete shit. Especially London. I bet there are about 10% of people who even own a tiny house. Queen Mary was an abomination who executed people because she tried to turn a Protestant country Catholic. She was called Bloody Mary because she killed so many people. She also completely insane. Henry was a such hypocrite. If he thinks he marriage to Catherine was incest because she’s Arthur’s widow, then his marriage to Anne was basically the same thing because her older sister, Mary Boleyn, was his former mistress.
@mariellem7820
@mariellem7820 4 жыл бұрын
Not really. The incest argument came from the fact that HIS brother was first married to his wife, which made the latter his sister-in-law. Having Mary Boleyn as his former mistress didn't make Anne his in-law. Thus, no "incest".

Yes, that was the famous Queen Isabella of Spain of Ferdinand and Isabella fame who supported christopher Columbus.She with her husband finally drove the moors from Spain. However, any jews and moors still in Spain had to convert to the Catholic Church or face imprisionment or death. I think the english people WOULD have been happy if Mary had married one of her english cousins, who also had a claim to the throne, not Phillip. Lady Jane Grey and her husband Guilford Dudley, were locked up in the tower. Now Mary didn't as I understand, really want to execute Lady Jane Grey, but then her father got stupid and joined Wyatt's rebellion So he too, along with his daughter lost her head.Elizabeth 1 didn't trust Jane's sisters, Catherine and Mary. And that's another story.

In my opinion, Mary had actually been Elizabeth's teacher in the arts of statecraft and queenship. Not directly, perhaps, but still indirectly. She taught Elizabeth what a Queen must and must not do, and Elizabeth in turn had learned her lessons well. As someone who believes in an afterlife, I honestly hope that, in that other world, these two sisters had resolved their differences, and come to a true complete reconciliation. After all, at the end of the day, they are sisters, and have so much in common.

This illustrates the danger of theocratic monarchies and explains why the Amerrican colonies revolted and created a democracy free of religious bias. The co,onions had suffered under monarchies and knew they were undesirable. Religion had interfered in governmental processes for too long and was also discarded .the colonists knew what didn't work and developed a democracy ruled through e,lectionary. Honestly it's down to Mary and the parade of stepmothers. Mary showed Elizabeth what not to do. Mary's foreign marriage was incredibly unpopular, which caused all manner of problems for her. Further, her insistence on changing the state religion caused all matter of contention. The parade of stepmothers further showed Elizabeth what could happen if she married PERIOD. She chose to be master of her own fate rather than subjugating herself to any man and risking her life in childbirth.

@@steveb1164 Why do you say that? Queen Mary could have easily had Elizabeth killed if she wanted, yet she didn’t do so. And regarding your first comment… It was a matter of principle! Catherine and Henry were married for so long, and their daughter Mary was born legitimately. I can relate because my mother is Catholic as well, yet she divorced my father when I was a young teenager… When the church told her that she would not be able to receive communion anymore because of the divorce, she was about to take them up on their suggestion that she get the marriage “annulled,“ involving her giving them a ton of money, which was the church’s way of saying that her marriage to my father was never legitimate/never happened, and thus my brother and I were born illegitimately “out of wedlock!“ She was about to pay a good $600 at least, if memory serves me right, to declare my brother and I as bastard children! All just so that she could receive a tiny piece of bread every Sunday from the priest. 🙄 I was insulted by her even considering this as a valid option, and told her as such. She decided to not go through with it after I expressed my feelings, and decided to go to a Baptist church for many years after that instead. But her heart never left the Catholic Church, as she told me during that period of time that she wanted to be buried with the Catholic rights of sacraments… And sure enough, some years later she began going back to the Catholic church. I have a feeling that she ignored the whole “you can’t get communion anymore if you are divorced” at that point, and kept the divorce to herself so that she could receive it again. I never asked her about it though as I am an atheist and we butt heads about religion. She raised me as Catholic, but I really did not like the church from a very young age and fought with her to go to my best friend’s Baptist church with my friend’s family when I was in the third grade. I ended up leaving the church when I was 19 years old though, and became agnostic in my 20s, and then atheist in my early 30s. When my parents were married, my father would also go to Catholic church with us, but he obviously never liked it either, because he never bothered to get baptized (so he never went up to receive communion either). After he got remarried, he began going to a Protestant church as well with his new wife, and got super into it.

For instance, Mary had a second phantom pregnancy which wasn't mentioned and Elizabeth's secretary and right hand man was William Cecil, not Robert. Actually, considering that his divorce from Catherine led to the Reformation and the Church of England and Anglicanism still stands to this day, I would argue that some of his legacy is still present very much to this day. Also, while the Royal Navy started building its success during Elizabeth I's reign, it was during Henry's reign that it emerged and gained the potential that it had. Sure, Henry was a horrible person (although it's also argued that he was quite pleasant until he fell off his horse in a jousting accident and suffered frontal lobe damage) but you can not objectively say that his legacy is destroyed when two of the things that England (and the UK) are identified with are inherited from him.

P.S. I don’t know if this accurately depicted historical reality or not, but in an excellent movie about Queen Elizabeth, Elizabeth begrudgingly signed Mary Queen of Scots execution warrant, after the relentless urging and nagging of her advisors to do so (it took her a long time to work up the nerve to sign the warrant) - but then immediately after she hands the signed warrant to an advisor or servant of hers, she tells him to _NOT_ hand it over to the full group of advisors until/if she gives him permission to. She said she wanted to think on it more, at least for the night...She knew that she’d be inviting war on the shores of England if Mary Queen of Scots were to be executed, and Elizabeth was no war monger)... So she tells this advisor/servant to pretend as if she never signed it whilst he waits to hear back from her (for him to learn from her whether or not to pass it on and make the order for execution final, or to shred the document up and allow Mary Queen of Scots to live). This advisor/servant _DEFIED_ Elizabeth’s order, as he took it upon himself to make the decision for her, passing on the document to the group of advisors to force the execution to happen asap. Again, this was from a movie, so it would be cool to research this one day to see if the movie script writers were being accurate with how things really went down, or if it was only written to be dramatic. Anyone know?

Henry ended up with the Strong heirs he wanted just not the gender he wished for. Even with all the crap that happened during his reign I do believe he loved all his children fiercely, I also believe Mary came to adore Elizabeth in their younger years and Vice Versa. So many people say how much Mary hated her younger sister but I believe they have that thought due to Mary having Elizabeth arrested and jailed. She was heavily counciled to sign Elizabeth's death warrant but didn't. I truly believe it wasn't just because she was her heir I believe it was because she loved sister very much. While she was forced to be one of Elizabeth's Lady's in waiting I believe to her it went from a humiliating punishment to a joyful relationship. Elizabeth I believe learned alot and inherited alot from her sister as well as her parents. The way she carried herself was much more reminicent of Mary rather then her parents. She got everything she needed to be a great Monarch from her mother, father and her sister Mary.

You would think by the second decade of the 21st century, that they would give an accurate report of Queen Mary. I am so sick of her being called "Bloody Mary". She was certainly no worse than Elizabeth 1. Elizabeth killed many many people herself. Poor Mary had a horrible and tragic life. And it's little wonder she acted the way she did. Yes, that's no excuse. But the way Henry treated her and her mother was horrific! And to add insult to injury, she was not given the dignity to even be buried in a Catholic Church. Or now even reinterred in Westminster Cathedral. The only way to have the story properly told, is by a non-english program or Professor. The English have an inbred hate for Mary. And it exists to this day. Totally unfair and factually wrong.

Elizabeth was protestant.. It was assumed that instead of Elizabeth a Protestant, Northumberland jumped to his choice Lady Jane whom Northumberland could control. Mary was raised by a foreign mother, and never fully understood that England and it's subjects have always considered themselves separate from Europe. European monarch's could burn their subjects and persecute their subjects with no consequences. But England had the Magna Carta. English men considered themselves unequaled in their freedom. England had a parliament. the English did not wish to be ruled by a foreign ruler, be he a monarch or a pope. Mary never fully understood that, and as much as the people of England loved her as Henry's child, they still perceived her as part foreigner.
@guaycura
@guaycura 4 жыл бұрын
That's true now but not really at that time. Otherwise Mary wouldn't have gathered so much people around her to depose Lady Grey. Not only that, English people accepted another foreigner later (Scottish James Stuart) and many decades later the husband of Mary II (Dutch William of Orange) and later the Hannover (German). Of course all of them were somehow related but not strongly as Mary as she was a King's English child not a foreigner cousin or nephew/niece.

@@sabi2121 .. Oh you are so very right! While Catherine was living the English saw her as their rightful queen and Mary as their true heir (after Edward). When Mary came to the throne the English were truly happy. But historically countries did not like women monarchs and anytime they did anything wrong, everyone was quick to assign blame through the maternal line. Elizabeth was the bastard daughter of a Protestant Witch and Mary the daughter of a Catholic Foreigner.... When Mary became queen, she promptly made it known that she was more Spanish Catholic than English Protestant. They didn't nickname her "Bloody Mary" out of love.

@@guaycura Everything you have written is spot on. Maybe we are coming at it from different directions with the same result. Historically the issue for the English is religion first, legitimate lineage is second. Later even though James was the direct descendant of Henry VII he would not have been accepted as a Catholic. To ensure acceptance James was raised protestant. Your reference to James Stuart, Mary and William, and the Hanover's also match with my observation. Historically the English will always choose a barely royal protestant over a direct line Catholic. Catholics

It's definitely ironic if not somehow funny in a sinister way that he stepped on so many people and beheaded two of his wives just so he could move onto the next in the hopes that one of them would eventually give him the son he so much desired as an heir, and yet he had *two* daughters ascend to the throne and the Tudor dynasty died with Elizabeth. Fun fact: British children's TV series called "Horrible Histories" covers historical events and facts in a fun way to make history more attractive to children and they often did songs for that. They have a song called "The Monarch Song" in which they present all of the English monarchs that have been since William I to Elizabeth II and Elizabeth I's introduction is "I'm Liz the first, I had no kids, so Tudors RIP". I find that very funny.

So, in large part, it's probably because it would have been seen as a "pollution" of the royal bloodline and, therefore, abhorrent to Mary, or, at the very least, her religious conscious couldn't stomach lying to both her people and husband. It would have been reasonably hard to do too, simply because of all the attendants around a royal birth for just this sort of reason---from midwifes, to ladies in waiting, and physicians. Still, I won't lie, this sounds like an awesome alternate history idea to try to make happen.

Once you colored them in and cut them out, they also had outfits to wear, and there were enough of them that you could make up stories with them. It would be a pity if that paper dolls product had gone out of print! There was also a similar book of coloring paper dolls for King Henry VIII and his wives.
