two bad games after playing well for over a month glad to see nurse come back with a good game tonight even without his goal and assist

Thanks as always. I hope you'll talk a bit about the Word Junior Championships tomorrow if you have time. Curious what your analysis is of that debacle.

I’m happy that Oilers won but also frustrated at ridiculous extra passes and dangerous unnecessary plays that had lower potential of panning out!

That was an ugly game, but at least a win. It seems McDavid hasn't come back from the Christmas break yet.

Game 38. Long post follows with base game statistics including some for the Anaheim Ducks. Read, don't read, up to you. These are BASE stats not detailed ones like the Cult of Hockey compiles. My comments and observations at the end. Statistics for Anaheim Ducks at Edmonton Oilers January 2nd, 2025 Edmonton Oilers: Nuge 1 Goal (PP) Nurse 1 Goal, 1 Secondary Assist (on GWG) Draisaitl 1 Goal (GWG) Bouchard 1 Primary Assist (PP) J Skinner 1 Primary Assist Perry 1 Secondary Assist Hyman 1 Primary Assist (on GWG) Skinner 27 Saves on 29 Shots = .931 Save %age Anaheim Ducks: Leason 1 Goal Lacombe 1 Goal (PP) Strome 1 Primary Assist (PP) Carlsson 1 Secondary Assist (PP) Dostal 23 Saves on 26 Shots = .885 Save %age (58 minutes played) Ducks Oilers Shots on Goal 29 26 Hits 14 3 Faceoffs Won 20 21 PP 1/2 1/1 Penalty Mins 4 6 Giveaways 4 18 (17 per NST) Takeaways 1 (0 per NST) 5 (4 per NST) Blocked Shots 12 (11 per NST) 13 (12 per NST) 3 Stars: 3-Nurse (1G, 1A), 2-Dostal (.885 Save %age), 1-Draisaitl (1G, GWG) Player TOI PP TOI PK TOI SOG +/- PIM Hits Blocks Giveaways Takeaways Bouchard 24:23 0:42 0:00 2 -1 0 0 1 5 0 Ekholm 24:17 0:00 1:19 1 -1 0 0 2 1 1 Kulak 22:10 0:00 0:39 2 2 0 0 2 4 1 Nurse 20:52 0:00 0:37 2 2 0 0 1 1 0 Emberson 14:55 0:00 1:21 1 0 0 0 0 1 1 Stecher 12:41 0:00 0:00 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 McDavid 22:44 0:42 0:00 0 0 2 0 0 0 0 Draisaitl 20:21 0:42 0:04 4 1 2 0 1 2 0 Nuge 17:25 0:42 0:34 4 -1 0 0 0 0 0 Hyman 16:58 0:42 0:00 3 1 0 1 0 0 0 Arvidsson 14:15 0:00 0:00 2 0 0 0 0 1 0 Janmark 13:33 0:00 1:13 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Podkolzin 13:20 0:46 0:00 1 0 0 1 2 1 0 C Brown 12:53 0:00 0:34 1 -1 0 0 0 0 1 Henrique 12:44 0:00 0:00 2 1 2 1 3 1 0 Kapanen 11:46 0:00 0:45 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Perry 10:42 0:00 0:00 0 1 0 0 1 0 0 J Skinner 9:27 0:00 0:00 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 Oilers Faceoff Breakdown: Won Lost Percent Draisaitl 12 5 70.6 Henrique 9 4 69.2 McDavid 6 6 50.0 Janmark 3 2 60.0 Nuge 1 2 33.3 Arvidsson 0 1 0.00 Ducks's Faceoff Breakdown: Won Lost Percent Strome 6 13 31.6 Carlsson 6 6 50.0 McTavish 4 6 40.0 Lundestrom 3 5 37.5 Harkins 1 0 100.0 Leason 0 1 0.00 From the stats: Oilers were outshot (rare) by 3, out hit (no surprise) 14 to 3, Oilers won the faceoff battle by a lot (31 to 20), both teams scored 1 on the PP (though the Ducks had 2 shots at it) so no perfect PK's. Oilers had 2 more penalty minutes, a LOT more giveaways (18 to 4), a lot more (relatively) takeaways (5 to 1) and one more block. The scoreboard (and the stats) show a pretty close game when many were expecting an Oilers blowout in revenge of the last game. Didn't happen and we get a 3-2 regulation win (I LIKE regulation wins). Leon still leads the lead in both goals and game winning goals. McKinnon has 7 more points as he has a lot more assists. Sorry I can't really give more as I couldn't watch the game or listen to it. Still feel a quarter past dead. Still waiting for eye surgery. Take care all

It's sad that a warrior like Derek Ryan has gone downhill but time gets us all. Hopefully he will continue on in the game in some capacity but as a player he has become less and less effective.

Idk how you can think we still don't need a 2nd pair RD. yeah our guys can cut it in the grind of the season against Anaheim. That's very different than an intense playoff series. Our defense is good when good players like Kulak and Stecher are on the third pair. Stecher sharing a spot with Emberson

It’s pretty logical to think he won’t return until the playoffs tho!…I can’t wait until he does come back!

The 2-1 goal really possed me off. The oilers were pressing hard at the end of the 2nd and it looked like 3-0 was just a matter of time. Then the refs put their whistles away as the Ducks starts doing cheap things - blatant trip on Drai after he dumps puck into their zone and J Skinner gets tossed to the ice no where near the puck. Should have had 4 mins pp to end the period, instead the ducks get back in the game. Bettman must have been thrilled
@zigfield723Күн бұрын
Why does McDavid never shoot the puck anymore? This has been going on for a year and a half now. Doesn't make any sense at all.

For the love of God , I hope this organization isn't doing swan songs for Derrick Ryan, I wish the Oilers had a cut throat mgmt like Vegas and Tampa, rather than worrying making an old and small 37 year old 4th line center happy, I wouldvd shipped him out in the off-season..were in the primes of 97 and 29, they are the only 2 we cannot afford to waste, Edmonton is now a destination to play....they need to start acting like it and win at all costs

I said on another thread, that J. Skinner is essentially lazy. He doesn’t work hard enough. And from what I understand, he’s never been to the playoffs… if true, that’s worth noting. He should watch Hyman & learn from him. However, who knows if Skinner has the character to step up??
@Ace96x102 күн бұрын
How many soft goals will Skinner let in should be a sports select) Lol, I didn't see the game, just the highlights. I said he'd let in 2 of them. I was right. I said Oilers 4-3, I was wrong about that though.
@BackPorchCountryPodcast2 күн бұрын
On that second goal he had 2 ducks screening him. They showed the angle of the shooter and there was no way he could have tracked the puck. Normally I'm with you on Skinner giving up soft / flimsy goals, but this was an exception to the norm tonight. The post bailed him out on a few breakaways by Anaheim in the 2nd and 3rd, so I wouldn't say he was a difference maker.

@@BackPorchCountryPodcast You make a fair point indeed. And that happened the last game to, 3 posts on Stu lol. I certainly have nothing against the man as a person or player though, and I hope he somehow becomes a real #1 starter at some point. I just don't think he will heh))
