Happy New Year to all. At 1:20 of the podcast Bruce starts to talk about his "good thing" and tonight it was Connor Brown. It is really good news for Oilers fans that number 28 is playing so well the last 20 games or so. It really is not a surprise though, since it was just about exactly 2 years to the day, after his operation to his right knee to reconstruct his torn ACL, when his play really started to improve. Any athlete, regardless of the sport, and even regular folks who suffered a similar injury skiing or snowboarding etc., can tell you that is about how much time it takes to get the knee back to where you feel confident enough to fully use it like you did before. Having full confidence in the repaired joint is a huge part of getting back to where you were. Connor Brown career stats: Games - 556 Goals - 100 Assists - 246 +/- --13 (Note: Most of the +/- damage was done in Ottawa and his first few months in Edmonton while still recovering from the torn ACL.)

That was a much better game from the oldest team in the league. They finally used their maturity as an asset and the line juggling worked too. I watch and listen to a ton of sports shows and many people advocated putting Brown with Mcdavid, along with other options. Hopefully we’re in for a good ‘25.

Happy New Year - and guys, you know if no injury there is no suspension right? The NHL is absolutely terrible for re-inforcing their rules. Not sure why they do this - but eventually those blatant and useless illegal checks are tolerated until there is an injury.

Game 37. Long post follows with base game statistics including some for the Utah Hockey Club. Read, don't read, up to you. These are BASE stats not detailed ones like the Cult of Hockey compiles. My comments and observations at the end. Statistics for Utah Hockey Club at Edmonton Oilers December 31st, 2024 Edmonton Oilers: Ekholm 1 Goal Nuge 1 Goal (GWG) Stecher 1 Goal Draisaitl 1 Goal (EN) Podkolzin 1 Primary Assist Bouchard 1 Secondary Assist McDavid 1 Primary Assist, 1 Secondary Assist C Brown 1 Primary Assist, 1 Secondary Assist Emberson 1 Primary Assist (EN) Skinner 26 Saves on 27 Shots = .963 Save %age (Excellent) Utah Hockey Club: McBain 1 Goal Guenther 1 Primary Assist Cooley 1 Secondary Assist Stauber 34 Saves on 37 Shots = .919 Save %age (58 minutes played) Utah HC Oilers Shots on Goal 27 38 Hits 15 4 Faceoffs Won 21 25 PP 0/2 0/3 Penalty Mins 8 6 Giveaways 26 (25 per NST) 12 Takeaways 3 (2 per NST) 7 (5 per NST) Blocked Shots 14 (13 per NST) 12 (10 per NST) 3 Stars: 3-Ekholm (1G), 2-Skinner (.963 Save %age), 1-C Brown (2A) Player TOI PP TOI PK TOI SOG +/- PIM Hits Blocks Giveaways Takeaways Ekholm 23:19 0:25 1:46 2 3 0 0 2 1 0 Nurse 22:50 1:03 2:13 4 0 0 2 1 1 0 Kulak 22:35 0:19 2:13 4 -1 0 0 4 0 0 Bouchard 22:20 3:34 0:00 3 2 0 0 1 2 0 Emberson 15:19 0:00 1:46 1 1 0 0 2 0 1 Stecher 10:11 0:00 0:00 2 1 2 0 0 2 0 McDavid 21:11 3:37 0:10 2 2 0 0 0 1 1 Draisaitl 20:47 3:34 0:09 2 2 0 0 0 0 2 Nuge 17:08 3:13 1:31 3 1 0 0 0 0 0 Hyman 16:37 3:34 0:00 3 0 2 0 0 0 0 C Brown 14:05 0:00 1:49 0 2 0 0 0 2 0 Arvidsson 14:00 0:00 0:00 3 2 0 0 0 1 0 Podkolzin 13:12 0:00 0:34 3 2 0 0 1 0 0 Kapanen 12:54 0:00 1:16 1 -1 0 2 0 0 0 Janmark 12:28 0:00 0:00 3 -1 0 0 1 1 0 Henrique 12:15 0:42 1:13 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 Perry 10:53 0:25 0:00 0 0 0 0 0 1 1 J Skinner 10:11 1:04 0:00 1 0 2 0 0 0 0 Oilers Faceoff Breakdown: Won Lost Percent Draisaitl 7 5 58.3 McDavid 5 6 45.5 Henrique 5 4 55.6 Nuge 4 3 57.1 Perry 1 0 100.0 Janmark 1 2 33.3 C Brown 1 1 50.0 Arvidsson 1 0 100.0 Utah HC's Faceoff Breakdown: Won Lost Percent Hayton 8 5 61.5 Bjugstad 6 4 60.0 Stenlund 3 5 37.5 Cooley 3 6 33.3 McBain 1 1 50.0 Schmaltz 0 1 0.00 Maccelli 0 1 0.00 Kerfoot 0 2 0.00 From the stats: Oilers outshot Utah (38 to 27), won more faceoffs (25 to 21), hit a LOT less (4 to 15), both teams couldn't score on the PP so both had perfect PK's though Utah took 8 minutes of penalty time (including a late one) and the Oilers only took 6. The Oilers had half the giveaways (13 to 26) over double the takeaways (7 to 3) and slightly fewer blocks (12 to 14). The goals by Nuge and Stecher 20 seconds apart sealed the deal in the 2nd period. Leon got an empty netter with a minute and two seconds left in the game to death knell Utah. Important not this game stat: Montreal BEAT Las Vegas so we gain a little back on them. LA didn't play tonight. Sorry I can't really give more as I couldn't watch the game or listen to it. I feel a quarter past dead. Still waiting for eye surgery. Take care all and a very Happy New CUP Year (couldn't help myself).

At least Brown can make a pass. Hyman neverrrrrr has his head up ao he cant make passes. The dude cant make a pass to save his life. Yes he scores and digs but Mcdavid nvr gets that dam puck back it really sucks
