The 80s were a magical time. The whole decade was surreal; best bands, best movies, television like Miami Vice which was the first show to use popular music at the time. This is also my favorite line-up of the band with this particular bass player and drummer that Ian and Billy had to fire because he was using heroin all the time. But he was one hell of a drummer. And Ian's sweet, melodic voice that he eventually lost due to heavy drinking and way too many cigarettes. Ian looks like he's really lived a hard life now. The baby face is gone and so is the voice. But I still love the band. They represent an element that you can't find in anything post 21st century music now. At least they kept their principals about making music and lyrics that are relevant to what the world is experiencing today. Their new album is quite good. But the LOVE album will always be my favorite. Most of these songs are from that album.

The guy who recorded the drums on Love, except Sanctuary, is the drummer in Big Country, Mark B. He was in the video for Sanctuary as well

He has Lost brethe,not voice. That's because he Is a little fat now.Just a Little!..😁 I love that album too, most of songs.Drummer was eroin addicted? What about bass player? Whyr he's not into the band anymore?

I love The Cult. They are so diversified: fabulous singer, fantastic guitarists and great drummer. Ian is such a gorgeous man you just not keep your eyes off of him. Jamie and Billy are good-looking as well. They are the personification of the "great groups"!!

Absolute, great tribal drumming which was the early Cult sound. They went shit after Electric

It breaks my heart to agree with you. Even though I still give every new recording a try, they just don't have the impact the earlier albums STILL have. Even the b-sides of the early era are phenomenal. Nonetheless I love Billy & Ian. The Universe is a better place with them in it.
@nigelblockhead807 жыл бұрын
They broke my heart too, all my favourite bands do, Sisters of Mercy did too. It's like losing a great lover/gf, you just cant recreate that early feeling/time. So we find new bands but its not as good. :)
@punkoid767 жыл бұрын
Nigel Blockhead they didn't go shit after Electric, Dreamtime was ok, Love was very good but has some weak tracks and Electric was their most consistent album, even with the cover of Born To Be Wild. Like all bands they had a creative peak, as did the Sisters, very early on. Its hard to continue and be the same as you were at your peak, writing songs is tough and its much easier when you're young and naive.

Shout out to Jamie Stewart, fantastic bass player, fundamental to The Cult along with Ian and Billy.

bIg HilL absolutely. He was the best one they ever had. Good solid bass, and he looked cute too! The original and best.

Hell yeah! Jamie was the best and absolutely crucial to their sound! A big influence on me as a bassist as well. This record (Love) and tour was their peak of greatness IMO. I had no interest in their future cock rock music and style.

Stunning visuals and a great sound. The Cult at their best. I recommend it to anyone and everyone into rock, goth and hard rock. People current aged 45 years old and above . . . this is OUR version of the Who, Stones and Zeppelin. I don't care who you are . . . The Cult changed music world wide through their LOVE and Electric albums. Love is the BEST GOTH rock album . . . way better than the Sisters of Mercy - First & Last & Always.

Wow this is really interesting to see video of the period just before they donned the denim and Rubin sadly changed them. They were the coolest most exciting band of the mid eighties ...chic goth sound & image. Thanks for posting this.

I totally agree with @Astburysring
@Joric783 жыл бұрын
@Andrew Forster I never got to see them back in the day, so I'm not sure when exactly they changed stylistically. I figured maybe when Guns and Roses was opening for them they recognised it as the next big thing and jumped on board. Either that or Rick Rubin recognised the next big thing and pushed them in that direction. A shame, because they seemed pretty generic as hard rock compared to their big goth blouse phase.

True but i don't like men with make up. I think Ian is better with his long long hair and leather skinny pants.🥰

I personally liked Ian's look in those days. He looked extremely good-looking. Some of those other '80's groups looked ridiculous, but Ian's look was so mesmerizing. They were definitely the greatest group then and throughout the years and even up until now.

Thank you for uploading this. I'm not sure how I missed this in my many searches for "The Cult - LIVE". This is that very rare, short period of time when Ian and Billy were transitioning from The Love album sound and look into The Cult millions would know about a year later with the release of Electric and then Sonic Temple. This is my favorite period of time for the band as they were still playing songs from the Love release along with songs from Dreamtime but began to ditch the floofy fashion for a more hard rocker look with black jeans, boots and leather jackets. I would say this is the band at their peak. Still hungry for Top of the Pops and it really shows in their playing and onstage presence. Example: "She Sells Sanctuary" at 17:00. The band in perfect sync with each other. Billy's playing improving by huge leaps and bounds at this point as he realized his partnership with Ian was it! The golden ticket to make a living playing guitar. I saw them during this period of time. April 26th 1986 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California with The Divinyls opening. To this day all these years and hundreds of shows later it's the best concert I ever attended. For real. No shit.

While I’m sure touring with the Doors was an honor and he did a great job at it. Ian please find YOUR OWN voice again! Loved the Cult for over 30 years....OLD Cult, Love after ALL these years is still one of my all time favorite albums can’t be without it, Dreamtime also Love, HIS own voice is like a beautiful male siren and unmistakable, now it’s too Jim Morrisony, Jim also had a GREAT voice but it was HIS! Jim’s dead baby, Jim’s dead, sound like Ian Astbury please! Don’t fix what isn’t broke! If I want to listen to Jim Morrison I’ll listen to the original Doors, I can’t even recognize most of their songs today as the Cult its so sad! Love this! Where can I buy it? THIS IS the Cult I LOVE!

Despite his charisma and charm, Ian has always been the weakest link here, it must be admitted. Often very problematic live .... almost to say he was bad. He often seems so indolent, just not so much into things. With a band like that behind him he should be energetic like an everexploding bomb.
@franklinloll22292 жыл бұрын
Like who ? The best most current vocalists who he's older than aren't energetic if they ever were. Layne Staley, eddie Vedder, Chris cornell, kiedas, wieland.
