I produced this video while working on the Emerald Princess. October 4th 2009. It was my Birthday and the only beer crew could get on the ship was Budweiser because it was out of date and they had to get rid of it before US health inspectors. So this guy went into a bar to get me 2 beers for my birthday. They were Tuborg and cost $20!!!.

Awesome video and beautiful town. Life in the far north fascinates me, and one day I would love to visit. Questions: 1) Is there a restaurant/bar scene in Qaqortoq? 2) How do people make a living? 3) What size is the population? 4) where do students go to pursue higher education? I'm assuming Qaqortoq doesn't have a university. 5) What's the cost of a 1 litre bottle of juice? 6) Does Greenland have a vibrant music scene? 7) Hospitals? 8) What currency do you use, and who governs things like taxation, etc.

I was only there twice and each time for only the day do I can’t really answer your questions but I do know it is a thriving community with lots going on. It is expensive as it is so isolated but they have all the amenities. I had an awesome Thai Meal there. Thanks for the nice comment. I am ramping up my travel series and releasing some new stuff under The Epic Traveler brand. But there is one thing for sure to answer all your questions perfectly. You must Travel there.

2) People make a living with fishing and an allowance from denmark of 150€ per month. 3)now like 3300. 4) Theres a university in the capital nuuk (they go by plane) but they dont go to canada or south because its too expensive. 6) Theres nanook but i dont know much about them 7) There are many hospitals on the west coast but you gotta get flown there and Planes and helies dont come too often 8) they use euro since they‘re still in the kingdom of denmark.

I was lucky enough to say I have been there from a Viking cruise ship. Interesting, yes! Also, Greenland has the world's highest suicide rate sadly. Winter has to be the longest and harsh. Everything has to be shipped in. Nothing grows there. Can't imagine going out in the ocean and having an emergency. .scary stuff. The Vikings only stayed there about a couple of hundred years then into Canada to Newfoundland. Vikings knew it was too difficult an area. Would love to get back some day. Thanks.

Thank you so much for this video. I had thought that this was a harsh and, forbidding place. With the tales of the Vikings and, all. I am right about the weather. Respect for the tough folks whom live there. Despite the weather it seems like a very beautiful part of the world. A lot like Iceland. Thank you again.

Hashish is more popular in greenland. It is more logical for drug traffickers to bring something more potent and compact. Few people grow marijuana there so most is imported from Europe, Canada, or Iceland. You will have a hard time making connections in greenland because of the language barrier and all.
