We're roughly two months into 2023, and certain people on the battlefields of Social Media have been fighting for every last bit of engagement they can by trying to get you angry about things that just do not matter. Buckley looks at the Culture War in 2023, and its biggest enemies: M&Ms with new shoes, the power save mode on Xboxes, people who DON'T use gas stoves, and the rebranding of Disney's Splash Mountain ride.

To be faaaair, that's not entirely surprising. Even Marvel fans who have been feeling burned out by the constant deluge of subpar content keep saying Wong is still great when he shows up, some calling him the new Nick Fury with how he's doing... something behind the scenes with various characters. Based on the fact Wong was seemingly a highlight of the lukewarm reception to phase 4, if I were Disney/Marvel, I'd probably greenlight a Wong solo show or movie as well.

The movies take liberties with the source material. Wong is a cool character in the movies but he along with echo and some of the other B-listers don’t deserve a show.

If it's well written and compelling, I'd at least check it out. Also a reminder that Iron Man and Thor were literally who characters to all except Marvel Comics fans, and taking a chance on them in the beginning obviously paid off well for them.

I remember watching The Princess and the Frog back in the day with my friendgirl. I thought it was a decent enough film with a decent enough dub. Maybe I would have changed some of the cast or the events, but it was nothing to get fussy about. The only time I've been offended about candy was with the Harry Potter beans... I accidentally ate one of the "!" marked ones and threw up for the next hour or so. For some reason I haven't really felt like gambling with my candy since that. Gas ovens? Hmm, if only wood ovens weren't the "norm" in Finland. And even then people are debating how you should light them up to minimize the emissions... because lighting a match in a wrong angle produces thicker smoke... who in the goddamn world cares? Thankfully my PC can crash on its own so I have to turn it off at times. Or I could see if there's an issue with the RAM. But hey, at least no liberal's telling me what to do with it.

Even velcro is too much of a difficult concept for their pea-sized brains to process - they either go shoeless or, if they absolutely have to wear footwear for legal reasons, they'll wear Crocs, flip-flops, or some sort of slip-on shoes like penny loafers. Instead they relied on the patriotism of their base audience, and their general lack of actual knowledge about the military, to farm clout. Man, Microsoft can't catch a break; even when they get something right they get attacked for it. Having the console fully shut down if it isn't used for a long time is a smart move for anyone trying to save on their electric bills. If they're busy dealing with other shit they might not pay as much attention to their Xbox as they used to, so it's nice to know the console can just go "man, fuck this, i'm shutting down". My only complaint would be if it _isn't_ optional, but at the same time it's not exactly a major hinderance if it isn't optional. Yeah it'll suck to know that the game you suspended will have been completely closed during the shutdown but given that SSDs are speeding up game load times significantly its becoming less of an issue.

My thing is shut down was a setting that was already on your Xbox, it's now just the default setting instead of standby being the default. The Series X is fast enough that start up time doesn't make a difference, it takes my Samsung TV longer to turn on than the Xbox. The only real downside is my digital assistant can't wake my console remotely anymore, but Xbox is rectifying that by making another update that will let you set active and inactive times for your console so you can have it set in standby during times you are likely to wake it, and shut down during times you are unlikely to wake it.

I would like to point out that splash mountain never had a line, which is what made it great. No 2 hour wait, just walk up 5 minutes later your in the a ride car. Great ride for cooling down in the Florida sun........which is probably why they are rebranding it. Can't sell fast passes to no wait time rides.

You should check them out if you haven't heard of them. The album "Join Hands" is really good. Quite an influence on the early goth music along with bands like Bauhaus, Joy Division and the Cure. I've only got a defense for Song of the South and Splash Mountain, the rest I couldn't give less than a fuck about. While I don't mind the ride being changed to PATF, I just hate that Disney is so embarrassed by this film that they try so hard to hide it and pretend it never happened, and they don't even do a great job of hiding it. It never got a home release in the US, but it got video and laserdisc releases in Europe and Asia. The film is mostly harmless.. mostly.. and is an overall boring story tbh. But Gone With the Wind is a much edgier film by today's standards and that film has been re-released plenty of times. Walt made SOTS because he loved the book it was made from when he was a child, despite its skewed racial viewing. He ignored advice from the NAACP on what to change, but it mostly received positive reviews. And even though James Baskett, Uncle Remus, was barred from the premiere, that was the theater's doing, not Walt's. Even more, James Baskett was the first black male actor to receive an Academy award for a film, and that was Walt demanding he be put in. By trying to erase the film's existence, they are erasing an integral part of black history in pop culture. Even Floyd Norman, a black animator and one of the last animators to work with Walt before his passing, he has been an advocate for Disney to release the film to the public for years. I feel like if they just grew a pair and owned up to the film, opening with one of those "That was then, this is now" PSAs, people would have the slightest bit more respect for Disney and we can finally drop it.

Using things like movies to teach us that standards were different at the time - and that we could learn from them, the good, bad and ugly - could do society good. "Hey, remember when we had this standard in the 1940s? Gee, we've learned just how silly we were thinking this about that issue, weren't we?" But no, it's easier to erase something or pretend it didn't exist, making it an entirely different issue. Heaven forbid that people can actually think for themselves!

In Disney world, as you walk from Haunted Mansion (in Liberty Square) to Splash Mountain in Frontierland, the architecture very slowly changes as you go more and more "out west" and Splash Mountain fit the theming at the very end of Frontierland. I hope the Princess & The Frog retheme at least keeps the architectural design in place because having a turn of the century New Orleans town would break that immersion completely and they definitely can have both the ride change and the land theme stay consistent. As for the Splash Mountain ride itself, it's still at Tokyo Disneyland.

The Xbone had two settings already. Sleep on idle or power off on idle. Default was the former. I think the "outrage" is power off on idle is going to be set as default. I kinda get it; I like my Xbox downloading updates in the background so I'm not sitting there for half an hour waiting on OS and game updates. But I'm not going to cry about it. I'll change the setting back and call it it good. I did do the "power off when idle" and it was just annoying that it wouldn't pull updates

@@sabersz I’m not an Xbox player, or any new systems really. I have a PC for anything new that I’m interested in and a bunch of consoles from SNES to PS3 for older games, which I tend to prefer. Generally I tend to straight up unplug all the stuff as one power strip from the wall if I’m not using them. I’m a couple months shy of 20 and live in my own place, meaning I have to pay the bills. I live on the east coast, so Lord knows my bills have been creeping up just trying to keep warm this season.

I just think these peoples misunderstandings cant get any more stupider until the next one comes along. The Xbox one is actually good because it saves electricity and maybe the only problem is if someone was playing a game, fell asleep and it turned itself off. Growing up, the red M and M was more sexual in their adverts. Like those adverts back then were actually pretty disturbing. But the glasses M and M has high heels? I just don't understand how its 'woke' to change this. The gas stoves could actually be a health issue. The whole rebranding is actually good for Disney. Even with this (stupid) 'controversy' is actually useful for bringing in people because you know that people will go and visit it before it closes and reopens too. I never got the appeal of Splash Mountain anyway and think a Princess and the Frog ride would actually benefit the park. Its also a good Disney movie.
