A little update in the comments since no one can keep up with how fast this is developing... November 18, at 1:30pm, Elon Tweeted: "New Twitter policy is freedom of speech, but not freedom of reach. Negative/hate tweets will be max deboosted & demonetized, so no ads or other revenue to Twitter." AGAIN, proving me right. He will effectively be shadowbanning posts deemed "negative" or "hate", they won't appear in feeds, you'll have to go to a person's Twitter page directly to see them (which, as we all know, people don't do, they just scroll the feed). He did say that he allowed a few people back on (The Babylon Bee, Jordan Peterson, and for "balance" I guess, Kathy Griffin) and is still deciding on Trump, but those people/groups could have their posts "deboosted", so... still the same things people were complaining about before. This has been a lot of fun! EDIT: Oh, and also he gave a hard "no" to Alex Jones coming back. So, the "free speech absolutist" has his absolutes... SECOND EDIT: He reinstated Trump after a poll (that was about 52/48 in favor), so we'll see either how long that lasts, or how long until he has a post "deboosted" under those new rules. Trump apparently made a statement today that he doesn't think he'll come back, we'll also see how long that lasts.

I truly do not understand how even Elon was stupid enough to think that him threatening the remaining employees with massive increases in work, while also giving them the option to take a 3 month severance would result in anything but the overwhelming majority taking the money and running. You fire 50% of the employees with very little thought to it. Throw away needed departments and services because you decide massive sweeping changes before getting a good understanding of the company was a good idea. Even if none of the remaining people quit, it would require them to work more than twice as hard and on tasks they don't have experience in until Elon got around to hiring more people. And obviously that percentage would skyrocket as more and more people don't consider a massive increase in work for no pay raise a pleasant idea. Plus there's the worry that he'll throw another temper tantrum and just fire more people for not reaching his impossible standards and getting a much smaller severance at that time. The fact that people can still be so cultishly devoted to Elon and think he's some genius who can do no wrong at this point is both sad and worrying.

those that stayed after the ultimatum, are people who if they leave, will have to be deported back to their country of origin. that sucks immensely. and thats the only reason they stayed.

People are being dumb; everyone seems to be making final judgements now, just a few weeks into him running the show. Of course it's a messy transition considering the old management and most of the staff were lazy and useless. We're also not at the point of having AIs that can perfectly apply the law to moderate content so of course he's still having moderators BUT I'm sure that they will be far more politically neutral then Twitter has been. Check back in a 6 months and I'm sure there will have been various major new features implemented, user growth will be back, and the whole company will be more profitable. There's many things that should have been done years ago but it's difficult to make progress when most of your staff only do 1 or 2 hours work per day.

Well, it became... correctly incorrect. Like he definitely hasn't fixed Twitter, but I believe I predicted he'd cave to advertisers. Instead he went "who needs people who spend a million dollars a year on Social Media buys, when we can sell Blue Checkmarks to a bunch of rubes!"

Twitter is currently a dumpster fire surrounded by people reenacting the fight scene from the SpongeBob episode Band Geeks while all the normal people are eating popcorn and sitting back to enjoy the show.

I just find the entire situation to be hysterical. So many people were hyping Elon up as some genius and how he was going to “save” Twitter, and every single thing he further does and says with the platform just proves how unprepared he was and still is. I just hope the whole thing crashes and burns to the ground so we can continue to use him as an example as to why people shouldn’t assume rich assholes are actually intelligent simply because they have a lot of money and charisma
